And now for some good news :)
Cosmic Log - 'Lost' rainbow toad rediscovered
As you will find in the article, scientists went looking for this toad as a part of an international effort to find amphibians, mainly frogs and toads, that have dissappeared or are thought to have gone extinct. Amphibians as a whole are in a very precarious position right now, and the frogs and toads have the worst of it, mainly due to lowered disease resistance from the bioaccumulating effects of pesticides ;__; Also, that toad looks pretty damn cool. :D |
Quite cool looking animal :) Funky frogs are the stars of every Disco ;)
We would need much more of these kind of great news and less bad ones. I still hope for the moment where one days some tiger opens the newspaper and reads... long lost example of the mankind found which seems to have gone extinct. No hard feelings against Mankind, but let us be serious - even this sounds like some bad joke... for animals it would be the best solution ;) |
Yay good news! :D
And my - that is one colorful toad! |
Beautiful :)
Good news too... I hope humans just take more care this time. |
nice find :D looks nice (and the nice looking ones are usually the poisonous ones ^_^) it's ironic how they are desperately searching for amphibians when down here toads are a major pest XD human's ****ed up though so they pay the price

What did you make of the Cane toad documentary Raiden?
|
This is great news -- Irayo for posting it, Raiden! And yeah, it's an interesting and colorful looking toad.

The whole problem is very unusual, as amphibians (compared to things like insects and plants) very rarely become truly invasive. I also find it interesting (and rather tragic, as 'phibs are really one of my favorite kinds of animals) that an animal that is often considered benign or helpful has become so destructive. I was actually meaning to watch the newer version, but I haven't yet, and now you've reminded me to. If you wind up coming with us to Olympia after the 2012 meetup, and we get lucky and run into some good amphibian spots, I can introduce you to some of my local favorites. ;D |
Awww! YAAAAAAAAAAAAY! Let's pray no d**che tries to exterminate the species. And let's donate to the WWF and other nature and animal rights protecting groups to thelp stop things like that and deforestation from happening to save this species and many others. :)
|
Agreed. WWF is going to be my main charity I donate to once I get super rich :) Or have any sort of job whatsoever :/

When I obtain a...uh...more robust resource pool, I want to help other herpetoculturists breed rare and endangered reptiles and amphibians, so that maybe they can be reintroduced at some point to their native habitats. |
