Entering the USA is not a problem from the majority of countries. European countries in particular generally don't need a visa for stays up to 90 days.

Human No More 10-22-2011 12:20 AM

If you're in western europe, you can get permission for a limited time if you promise not to work for something like $5, without needing a visa.

On topic... I REALLY need a date now :(

Advent 10-22-2011 12:51 AM

I'd hopefully be able to go to a meetup when Avatar 3 comes out. Quite a while away, I realize. :S

I know we have been saying this for a while, but this time it is true...seriously.

we are very close to announcing dates. (and some other cool stuff as well...)

I'd give myself 5% maybe. Aw - I really would love to meet you all and see that exhibition.... sigh - maybe I'll have to wait some more and join the inevitable meetup when Avatar 2 comes out ;)

I hope things work out and you can make it. Seriously, you won't be disappointed if you decide to come. :)

And several people went last year, on only 3 weeks notice before the event...

If Mocos dreams are prophetic, I need to come for sure :P

We'll see if I get a chance, I'd need to get a biometric electric passport, which I avoided by now and hope I am not on some list :P
Anyways - I can't say by now - just that I'd really like to be there.

Fkeu'itan 10-22-2011 04:26 PM

I really wish I could come... I'm srt of considering spending some of my student loan, to see if I could get a cheap ticket, but right now, it kind of seems like it's in the £400+ range, and would reqire me to miss lectures, more than likely... :(

I hate living in this country sometimes, I really do.

Well, it is wales.

I keed, I keed. :)

Missing a lecture or two isn't going to break the bank (never did for me); unless you need the lectures to pass the course.

- Mikko

Human No More 10-23-2011 04:51 AM

Yeah, I was all set to miss lectures last year... it was only because of exams that I didn't go :'(

£400 is very optimistic though, unless flights from Wales are a couple of hundred cheaper.

Will you still be having lectures in July? Thought that was holiday time? Well it was when I was in college and uni. Guess it's all changed now.

Anyway as for cost of flight I did have a look up and the lowest I could find...although you may find cheaper,... is between £800 and £850 from Birmingham and between £790 and £850 from London Heathrow.

These do involve changing planes in either Paris!!! or somewhere in the US.

Hope that helps.

Alan

Fkeu'itan 10-23-2011 12:30 PM

Oh, in that case... It's definitely not going to happen then. :(

I'll be free from lectures, but can't afford the flights/accomodation/transport.

auroraglacialis 10-23-2011 12:52 PM

Wow - I am amazed that it is cheaper to fly to Thailand with 10 days of hotel near the beach than to fly to Seattle (without hotel)... I also checked nearby airports, they are all in the same ballpark - about €1100 :(

Human No More 10-24-2011 11:56 PM

It's getting more expensive all the time... the reason I REALLY need dates if I am to be able to go... :(

Moco Loco 10-25-2011 02:09 AM

I also need some dates -.- Meh, I'm nothing special, the dates probably won't affect me anyway :D I just feel antsy not knowing.

Aketuan 11-19-2011 09:59 AM

Moved to an on-site live updating version here.

auroraglacialis 11-20-2011 12:35 AM

Haha - "clan meals" - I am wondering, is there a chance to get insect larvae? They are available from Thailand I think. Would be pretty funny :D

Empty Glass 12-10-2011 08:56 PM

Hey guys, just delivering a heads-up -

My life is getting pretty complicated at the moment, and my chance of attending the meetup is looking lower than originally thought. It's not completely written out for me, but I can't say it's guaranteed. :( To put it simply, I've just got several other big goals I want to accomplish next year, and in deciding when to do them and which are the most important for myself and my future...well, I just can't quite make any reservations yet.

But please, don't take this as a sign that this young man's "inner Na'vi" is fading away. Far from it, actually.

Human No More 12-11-2011 03:10 AM

:(

It's good to hear the last bit... I do still hope to see you there :)

Aketuan 12-11-2011 08:46 AM

EmptyGlass: I really really really hope things work for you and you can make it. The backpacking wouldn't be the same without you.

I know that at some point we have to go backpacking together whether it be in CO, or CA or WA...

Anyway good luck ma tsmukan. :)

Thanks, and I still hope to see both of you there along with the rest of the gathering. And I feel especially bad having to say this considering that I was one of the guys who initially spoke about the possibility of a group camping trip for this meetup.

I'll do my best to make this happen...

Alan 12-12-2011 05:52 AM

 EG You don't escape that easily! :D We'll get you to a fan meet up on way or another - hehehe.;)

Ahhh...you will never be able to take the Na'vi out of an Avatar fan. They are very hard to quell!

No need to feel bad at all. That's life.

You already have...

Anyway, hope all things come good and you are able to make it. If you really want it to happen, it will - and we want you there too! :hi:

Niri Te 01-14-2012 11:15 PM

Guys, it looks like the confluence of several different things is going to keep us from camping or back packing with you this year. The Hotel, and staying for the meetup is STILL ON, however, please think good thoughts for us about this, however.
Niri Te

Alan 01-15-2012 09:42 AM

Sorry to here that, but at least you'll still be able to come ot Seattle! :)

Alan (Thinking good thoughts)

Niri Te 01-15-2012 09:53 AM

It's scheduling more than anything else, we can still be able to go to the meetup, just not the camping or backpacking.
I will keep everyone up to date.
Brie

Moco Loco 01-16-2012 03:03 AM

Wow that's crap, sorry to hear it, but glad you can still be at the meetup :) That'll be the best part anyway.

Niri Te 01-19-2012 03:00 PM

OK, Ateyo and I are LOCKED IN for the meetup, but ONLY the meetup. We HAVE our room, but it will be at the RODEWAY INN, next to the airport, where the rooms are HALF PRICE. ;)
Looks like you guys are stuck with putting up with us for the meetup:party:
Niri Te

Alan 01-19-2012 07:38 PM

Glad to here you're sorted. Hopefully I'll see ya there :)

Alan

mikkowilson 01-19-2012 08:55 PM

Great that you have your plans sorted. Looking forward to seeing you!

Note that you'll need to allow the best part of an hour to get each way between the Rodeway (via the Link Light Rail and the Monorail) to the EMP Museum. And that'll cost you about $7 or $8 each way IIRC.

- Mikko

Niri Te 01-20-2012 02:09 AM

Thanks folks, the travel time info, and advice to take the rail instead of the bus was very valuable Mikkowilson, just look for a six foot tall half Cherokee in a flight suit and jump boots, next to a five foot tall Na'vi.
Brie

Txonä Rolyu 01-20-2012 07:59 AM

The Monorail is $2 each way and the Link Light Rail day pass is like $5.75. When you get off the Light Rail at the Westlake Center, you'll need yo go up an escalator or 2 (you'll be in a big bus plaza). Look for signs for the Monorail. You'll need to go up an elevator to the Monorail platform.

I'm not sure where your hotel is in relation to the airport but I know to get from the airport to the Light Rail it's kinda weird and a long walk. It's through a parking garage and like....through a little corridor....you might just want to go into the airport and ask where "Link Light Rail" is.

-Txonä Rolyu

Niri Te 01-20-2012 03:39 PM

The Hotel is about a mile east of the airport. Thanks for the information, it will make getting around on the first day a LOT easier. Who says that a Na'vi can't get along with an ex-RDA, current rebel forces Gunship Pilot?
Niri Te

Niri Te 01-20-2012 03:48 PM

The hotel is located on the corner of 176th Street and route 99, (International Blvd.), just east of the airport, between the airport and Interstate 5. I have just found out that the SEATAC light rail station on International Blvd. is 200 yards north west of the Motel, JACKPOT !!!!
Niri Te

mikkowilson 01-20-2012 07:18 PM

Rodeway SEA-TAC is across one road from the airport. There's a skybridge over that road that also houses the Light Rail station. It's about 3 minutes walk from Rodeway to the station. Very convenient.

Do note that the Light Rail closes over night; so you need to check what time you have to head back each evening - especially important for evenings with later events (TBD) at the EMP Museum and or Hotel.

Yay, another one from the Southeast US!

Not that I'm actually enthusiastic about living here or anything :xD:

Drewan 04-01-2012 12:27 AM

I can FINALLY say that I have a room booking & a flight there!!! By the "good" graces of my boss I can only take 1 day off---so I will be there Friday night & stay until Monday--must be back to work on Tuesday....But that is better than last year :)

Human No More 04-01-2012 01:43 AM

Congratulations :)

It's getting closer :D

Txonä Rolyu 04-01-2012 08:17 AM

Wonderful Drewan! Well you'll be there for the bulk of it. All the really cool stuff will be happening over the weekend :) Btw, I noticed you live in South Oregon. I'm from the Portland area (not south, I know but still OR), what about you?
