I live in Eagle Point (just outside of Medford)--A bit warmer than Northern Oregon :) ...did live for over 10 years in Portland--Powell's Books is one of the first places I head when I'm there (the original one on 10th & Burnside). Still have quite a few friends up there.....

Yes Alan---was a bit "interesting" for a few--makes you wonder about Hotel desk people....... I've got most of the trip lined up now--Clan meal is paid for & got a couple more t-shirts--now to set aside a few hundred $$ more--CAN'T WAIT!!!!!

Txantsan! :hi: Must have been a new starter at the hotel? Only 3 1/2 months to go. Eeeck!

Eeeeek! Yeah! Only three months to go now. Now would be a good time for all those who haven't registered on www.Avatarmeet.com and booked their rooms at the hotel to do so...

For those of you that can't get a room, and don't mind being a light rail ride away from "the action", Tee and I are going to cancel our reservation at the airport hotel, which is a seven minute walk from the train station.

I'm afraid not, ma Txona, our jeeps computerized engine management system quit, so I went and bought a vehicle that will never have a problem with transistors suddenly "hard failing" with no warning, we got a pre smog control 1959 Ford Pick up truck that runs like a charm, and I don't need a computer to tell me which one of the fifty or sixty electronic parts just failed on a newfangled vehicle. All I need to do, is pop the cap on the single wire distributor, check the point gap and spark color, of the points as they open, look down the throat of the Carb, and see if I'm getting fuel, and fix the problem. That type of a system "soft fails" so you get WEEKS of warning. Replace the five dollar set of points every 3,000 miles, and there will be NO problems.
The problem is that it cost us three thousand dollars cash to go back in time to get a more reliable vehicle, so no, we will not be able to go to Seattle this year. Over the winter, I will be rebuilding a 1965 Volkswagon Beetle, the EPITOME of trouble free reliability. THAT is the vehicle that we will take to NEXT year's meetup, and we will not have a single problem. ( I have years of experience with non smogged, air cooled VW's, as I used to work for VW dealers after I got out of the Army).

Kinda lost me there with all the car talk lol. But that sucks that you can't come! If I still lived in El Paso we could probably pool our money for a train up to Seattle. Crap. Well I hope you can make next year's meet up wherever it may be. Start saving now hehe ;) I'm going to start saving for next year immediately after this year's meet up.

Oh there will be no problem at all ma Txona, Tee and I will be coming up in a pre-smog equipment VW Beetle that I completely rebuilt from the ground up.
That, or we might come up in a VW powered Trike, (we both ride). I hope that you two have a wonderful time in Seattle this summer.

Awww...Really sorry to hear you and Ateyo can't make it this year. You'll be missed :( It's a shame you don't have access to alternatives to get there ma eylan. Don't suppose you have any pet Ikrans? :)

Well, not doubt, we'll be posting regular on the forums to keep people up to date. So you'll practically be there anyway.

Eywa ngahu,

Alan
(P.S. You'll be at the next one...RIGHT! Hehehe )

We will be there next year Alan, by then we will have our choice of five vehicles that except for the radios, won't have a transistor or logic chip among them, they will all be 50's and 60's technology. Shoot, Tee's plane is a 1946, and my plane is a 1940, and they are flawless flyers, but neither one of them have the electronics that they need to be able to fly into either Seatac or Boeing Field.
Whether the 2013 meetup is in Seattle, or Lost Wages, we will be there.

I'm still in the process of tring to come to this. I haven't got my first job yet and I'm paying for my own airline tickets. I might or might not be able to make it on the dates so if you can give me some words on the event as it aproches I would love that. I hope to see you there. So the date is in July?

Niri Te 04-06-2012 03:44 PM

There is always next year, Rainbowhawk. there is always next year.

mikkowilson 04-07-2012 09:16 AM

Rainbowhawk: All the details, including the dates (July 19-23), are at AvatarMeet.com .. we are updating the site continuously as we are getting closer and getting more details worked out. We've got some big announcements on the way here shortly.

Alright, I know I haven't been very active lately, but I'm just here to say that after a very long process of double- and triple-checking plane flights, bus schedules, and prices...I am going to be attending the meetup. (Not the camping trip unfortunately, but this will be better than not coming at all.)

Boy, that took a long time to get done! But it should be worth it to meet so many people there.

Cyvaris 07-02-2012 06:18 PM

Possibility of me attending has risen to 75%(pending credit card approval). Anyone still room mate hunting?

mikkowilson 07-02-2012 08:14 PM

Please everyone help us out by keeping your AvatarMeet.com profiles up to date when you book your travel and hotel rooms. Until we see those as confirmed in the profile, we're considering your attendance "tentative", which is skewing our numbers for the clan meal for example.

(Also update your profile to let us know if you can't make it. So we can minimize the list of "maybe coming" people.)

We want to make sure we have enough for everyone, but we are on a very tight budget so we don't want to over-book either.

On that note; if you haven't chipped in your share yet, please do so now if you are able.

YAY!!!! :hi: Yeah, it does take a while to double check that all your Ikran's are in a row. I was doing that on Sunday. Think I have everything sorted.

@Cyvaris - If you log into AvatarMeet.com, you will see the list of attendees and those looking for roommates. Might help you out.:)

And yeah, everyone, if you are (or are now not going) to the meet up please update your profiles accordingly, we need to get some things cast in Unobtainium. Like Mikko say's we need to know numbers for the clan meal. It's getting to crunch time....

HELL YEAH!!!

Alan

Cyvaris 07-05-2012 03:27 PM

So apparently by NOT drowning in student debt I am not eligible for a credit card......yeah I know that makes no sense at all what so ever. So....not going boo.

Huh?....Go figure! Sorry to hear that ma tsmukan, but at least you will not be in debt. Hopefully next year you can make it. :hi:

Eywa ngahu,

Alan

Cyvaris 07-07-2012 03:04 AM

Yep its pretty much "you have no credit history...but it IS good history because you have none...but we can't trust you with a credit card", yep it makes a bunch of sense.

Hopefully next year. I'll be done with University (and hopefully without any debt!!!!) so things should be better.

Their are NO lien holders on OUR land. RADICAL CONCEPT, huh? Also, BOTH aircraft are PAID FOR, we are NOT beholden to some banker for them. or our cars. The only thing that I use a bank for, is as a depository for my military retirement checks. As soon as the money is deposited, it is pulled out of the account. To look at my bank accounts, I never have more that ten dollars in an account as soon as I go and pull my entire checks that were direct deposited out of my account. All the money is under booby trapped, lock and key elsewhere.
Brie

The disadvantage of that being, of course, that your money loses value year by year, on top of the large amounts of money you need to have on hand to buy things outright. (Not to mention that the bank is better at security than you, having more economical options than you do.)

Anyways, as people on the IRC already know, I'm coming! See you all next again Thursday.

Niri Te, please keep politics out of this thread, especially when it's your own personal soapbox. Everyone here knows about where you live and your plane and that you were in the army etc. You don't need to post it in every thread you can.

Clarke, congratulations... See you in Seattle :)

HNM,
Clarke was rebutting mistrust in banks, If I am wrong in answering his statements, then HE should not deride someone for their financial planning, if it is different from what he would do. What I said had nothing to do with politics, it was all finances. As far as my money comes from, I just mentioned it, and moved on. I showed our situation to show someone that not owing you soul to a bank, puts you in a much better situation farther down the road, that's all, someone might want to try paying cash for everything, that's all.
