Outdoor Activities after official meetup

Anyway this has been brought up by a lot of people and there is a lot of interest. The meetup spans the 19th-23rd, however the 24th and/or 25th would be the time to do an outdoor activity.

Here is what has been suggested:

Location: likely Olympic Peninsula (45 minutes from DT Seattle)
What: Hike, camping, archery, backpacking, Na'vi songs around the campfire, ??

We still have a lot of time to figure things out, and this is simply an option. Whatever ends up happening everyone is invited and it will be fun out in the wilderness. :)

mikkowilson 07-17-2011 10:42 AM

Camping? HELL YEAH!

Kaltxi, Aketuan.

Of the activities you listed, I'm partial to a hike, archery (though I'd be at the beginner level for that), and songs around the campfire (though I'm not much of a singer and my Na'vi is minimal). :)

I'm not great at sports, but when I played that in grade school I was a decent defender/goalie.

I'm all for making this leg of the meetup as long as possible. I really like being outdoors, and exploring the forests of Olympia has been on my to do list for a very long time, as well as checking out the local salamander population.

James of terra 07-18-2011 02:16 AM

I might be willing to come along, but I am partial to concret and electricty, lol, but do enjoy outdoors.

X.,.Pandora.,.X 07-18-2011 03:36 AM

If I have the money I will defiantly come, no doubt.

Sempu 07-18-2011 04:22 AM

Excellent idea. Olympic peninsula rainforest, e.g. Hoh River valley, Hurricane Ridge, looks pretty close to Pandora.

Moco Loco 07-18-2011 05:03 AM

I am up for anything that has been listed. I am not top notch at sports either, but it doesn't mean I don't like playing sports in general (that is, when I'm not in stupid highschool gym where everyone takes it life or death seriously :S)

Helicoradian 07-18-2011 06:21 AM

I would be up for a camping or hiking trip. Never tried archery, but would love to give it a go.

Av_Daedric 07-18-2011 08:51 AM

Yes, yes, and yes. Hiking and Camping.

I love Archery, but only if someone sets an apple on their head. :P

Human No More 07-18-2011 01:44 PM

I'd be up for the camping :)
Also, archery, but I haven't done it for ages.

Sarah Noel 07-19-2011 12:59 AM

Soccer would be cool, it might be fun to have LN and ToS have opposing teams. I see no reason why I can't contribute my longbow to archery if we need equipment. Also arrows, I'll bring my half dozen non-prop arrows if this works out.

Empty Glass 07-19-2011 02:35 AM

As long as I get a chance to get faaaaaaaaar out in the wilderness, I'll be fine. :D

mikkowilson 07-20-2011 09:28 AM

By "wilderness", you are of course ignoring the 50 of us that there will be trapsing though the forest!

Gonna be tent city somewhere. Sounds like we'd better just rent an entire campsite.
... Or we all bring hammocks and find one big damn tree.

(How incredibly awesome photo would that be? A bunch of cosplayers asleep in hammocks in a tree.)

Aketuan 07-20-2011 09:52 AM

I love all of the ideas brought up so far. :)

...find a "big damn tree" and go crazy on the hammocks. :P

Love all the ideas so far! :)
Here are some places I would like to visit at some point during my time in Washington State. Not sure how many other people will be interested:

The Channeled Scablands
Mount St Helens
The filming locations for parts of Twin Peaks

St. Helens would be a cool place to visit indeed, as would Mt. Ranier.

As for our trip to Olympia, I would like to have as much time as possible there...maybe three days?

Does anyone know if the duration is set in stone yet?

Moco Loco 07-20-2011 09:58 PM

I'm trying not to blow all my money on this trip, but if I do, I'm sure it'll be worth it :)

nothing is set in stone yet. I would also like to spend as much time as possible outdoors with everyone. I think 3 days could be possible... :)

mikkowilson 07-21-2011 07:46 AM

3 days 2 nights?

Sounds almost as good as 4 days 3 nights.

- Mikko

Human No More 07-21-2011 09:54 PM

I'm not sure how many people of the group will come. a hammock tree would be epic though :)

Also, talking about things like Mount St Helens? Isn't that huge?
Don't make it too difficult if you want enough people to come along, I'd say that one would probably be out for me. Look at something that would perhaps be medium to low-type difficulty, I'd suggest.

mikkowilson 07-22-2011 09:49 PM

HumanNoMore;
Surely you can climb this with us...

I can do any of these. Getting off from work should be doable. I'm flying so I can't bring equipment. I have a six man tent I could mail, sleeping bags. I would have to bring my hiking shoes, rent a bike. A home tree with hammocks would be part of the dream. I used to do this all the time as a Geologist.

I'm taking a bath where ever we are. I can't sleep well if I'm dirty. I've taken one in ice cold streams many times. I had to hide my clothes because people would keep swiping them. How's the bugs at night in the summer?

MOMS Ball Avatar 07-24-2011 07:54 AM

Yes I now this is an OUTDOOR activity post. I will be lambasted for this. I love to going dancing, especially with a live band. I can do free style, swing, and Ballroom. I tried to go out dressed but they wouldn't let me in because they couldn't see my face.

Do you think they could pick out a blue guy with a tail out in a crowd?

Well, it might not be a problem as we may be able to hire stuff from here:
REI Store - Seattle, Washington - Sporting Goods, Camping Gear

There are probably other places too. I'm sure we will be able to sort something out between now and then in terms of hiking/camping gear.
