Dreams (general)

I feel like there must've been a thread like this already in these 11 pages, but I searched "dream" and there doesn't seem to be.
I thought it would be cool to have a thread about dreams in general because I NEVER have Pandora or Avatar related dreams, but I do have some pretty cool dreams generally speaking, and I'm sure some of you do as well. I actually love hearing about people's dreams, so if anyone else finds that interesting or has a good one to share, shoot :)

tm20 07-21-2011 08:22 AM

i always have weird dreams :P

rasomaso 07-21-2011 08:33 AM

yeah I made one a while ago, but it died lol. I also like hearing about people's dreams, especially those with a lot of fantastic stuff in it. xD Last dream I remember was from a few days ago, I was somewhat younger than I am now and we became like extremely rich (I was watching some tv show about rich people's house designs xD) and all I remember was having a bathroom made completely out of marble, it was a circle shaped room with glass walls and had a circular staircase in the middle leading to the upper floor. It was possible to hit a switch and let the whole room sink one floor lower and fill it with water to make it a swimming pool lol. :D
I'll add more dreams later. :)

Cyvaris 07-21-2011 03:46 PM

See I am a completely lucid dreamer, its pretty awesome. I have a very fertile imagination as it is so dreaming for me is just play time. The only problem is when you "create" real things, and you never want to leave your dreams. The worst for me was definitely the dreams inspired by Avatar....stupid glowy forest.

I also get a lot of inspiration for the various novels I am working on out of my dreams. Usually there is at least one thing I take out of a dream and turn into something useful. I have something like ten different ideas for various books and at least half of those came from a dream I had.

Clarke 07-21-2011 03:52 PM

I usually don't dream, which is kinda annoying. I just wake up in the morning "remembering" random things that haven't actually happened, or things I need to do that day that don't exist.

Cyvaris 07-21-2011 04:05 PM

I end up remembering every dream. Its really annoying when something you want to happen in real life happens in a dream. You never want to leave. God I wish I could go back to the days when I didn't remember my dreams and didn't dream lucidly.

Human No More 07-21-2011 09:06 PM

I've been having problems dreaming again :(
Well, problems sleeping at all for the most part, but even when I do, I don't seem to remember dreams...

Aketuan 07-21-2011 09:39 PM

I wish I could have AVTR dreams...I've only had a few and they were weird...

Hmm. I've read of other people with the same issue. Doesn't sound fun.

I have had loads of dreams during the summer. I don't actively try to remember them so some are quicky forgotten and some stay. Last night I was riding a motorcycle on a small road in a dark forest without shoes. It was difficult to shift gears barefoot. I was supposed to meet a bunch of people but was late and when I got to the house they were all eating. lol :P

Its fun....but you always have to wake up.
Oh God I apologize that was horrid.
The easiest way to sort of describe it is like Inception. You can craft amazing worlds, and depending on your force of will you can hold them in your mind to visit in later dreams. It really is a bad idea to "dream real things" though, because that is how you get lost in the woods...

That was worse.

I approve of this thread!

...particularly as the only Avatar dream I had involved zombies and Jake somehow also being the Doctor. I don't even KNOW.

applejuice 07-22-2011 04:04 AM

I used to dream a lot, but after been diagnosed with depression about year and a half ago, I just can't remember if I dream or if I dream at all. Before that, I always had this dream of me looking at myself sleeping. Another recurring dream was that I could fly! After that particular dream, I always woke up very tired and, in a certain way, a bit disappointed of knowing it was just a dream.

Empty Glass 07-22-2011 04:25 AM

I used to feel like I barely dreamed until I discovered lucid dreaming via avatar-forums.com early 2010. I learned that it's essential to keep a journal where you write down everything you remember from a dream soon after you wake up. Once I started doing that, I was able to recall so many more dreams than previously. I stopped doing it for a while after getting discouraged over not achieving lucidity, but I just started getting back into it again. It's kind of fun.

Funny...these days I'll frequently be going about my day perfectly normally until I see or hear something that triggers my memory, and I recall something from a dream that I had forgotten. Like how when I was at the grocery store today and walked past the cauliflower and suddenly remembered that I had a dream last night in which I was growing cauliflower with friends. It's a really weird sensation...

Fortunately I do have dreams that involve more exciting things than cauliflower... :P

Maybe you're looking at it the wrong way. That's a blessing, not a curse! Most people don't have the ability to explore - much less create - different worlds. Sure, you always have to wake up, but you always get to dream again the next night. :)

Advent 07-22-2011 11:17 AM

I have my dreams when I'm awake - seriously. I go outside every day for about 2 hours, and walk back and forth in a straight line imagining various things. Usually, it's the best time in the day for me when I'm completely left to my thoughts. Apart from sometimes of course, when I have a block in my imagination. Though that normally doesn't last long, I find there's nothing worse then a blocked mind.

My dreams while asleep are often very strange, and unexplainable. Sometimes however, I get deja vu in real life, from something I witnessed in my dreams. I can never quite remember them though.

That sounds very odd.

My dreams are usually pretty normal, and by normal, I mean that they make some measure of sense given real world rules and limitations, sometimes with a few exceptions. Recently, I dreamed I was in Seattle again and that I was on a scavenger hunt with Sheldon Cooper -.- Sure, he's funny on Big Bang, but actually having to work with that guy is terrible. What a little pissface.
:D I mean in retrospect, it is pretty funny, but at the time it was happening, I was mad.

Mother of the Forest 07-22-2011 03:06 PM

I used to have some really far-out dreams, but now I just have dreams of people I shouldn't be dreaming about and everyday things. However, I often have dreams of events that haven't happened yet. One just came true recently, and it did pertain to something of real importance to me. It left me wondering if my subconscious was trying to get my attention so that dream wouldn't come true, or if it was just a warning and there was nothing I could do. Thanks to these dreams, I've had some interesting insights into time, the human mind, and even the possibility of something greater.

Wow, TMI for sure XD...

Same here pretty much, can't even remember when I last had a memorable dream. Although my problems with sleeping are not as severe as yours, if I correctly recall our past conversations about the subject.

I long for the days when I could dream, even though many of those dreams were unpleasant. Dreams are great entertainment as long as one has the ability to dream in the first place. Then again it is said that we all do dream and that it's only a matter of being able to recall those dreams, although I'd say that things one can't experience in any fashion might as well not exist.

fkeua vrrtep 07-22-2011 09:44 PM

dreams are reflections created by your brain to process what is going on in your life, basically all kinds of feelings , desire , lust , fear , curiosity etc.

When you are in REM sleep phase your brain is actually as awake ,as if you were in fact awake , your dreams are just as "real" as the "real" life since the same electrical signals are processed by your brain throughout your body as in the awake state .

Is it weird that I had a similar dream....except minus the Doctor. Of course it was combined with the architecture from Metroid Prime.

I know its not a curse...its just annoying having to leave these perfect little dream worlds that I can create.

I stopped as well, because it wasn't working for me - I did have one dream which form descriptions sounds like it might have been at least partly there - I was with Neytiri in a hammock... but then I woke up, and I could feel myself waking up. It wasn't even a normal waking up -type time, it was still the night, and that experience was not nice :(

The dream that I can remember most strongly other than the above mentioned one and a few other Avatar ones, is a really bad one I kept having hen I was quite young, where I was running away from something, on a road that seemed to be made of copper or something similar, and there was nothing in the distance in any direction. I have no idea now, but back then it was really bad for some reason.

As it is, I can remember that I dreamed something, but I can never remember any detail of it. If I did, I would probably write it down, but getting it started is a bit hard it seems.

As for my Avatar dreams, there is the above mentioned one, which had a huge amount of detail - I could feel Neytiri's skin, and how she moved as she breathed... then I woke up :'(
The other, which I've had quite a few times, is me watching myself somewhere (not sure about the point of view, if it's a person, me, or what, but I'm somehow watching myself), where I'm a Na'vi in Hometree in that part where Jake becomes one of the Omatikaya
That dream makes me cry :'(

It was so very, very, very weird. But then, dreams ARE weird. I suspect the link was: I think a lot about Avatar because that's mostly what I write; I'd been marathoning the Resident Evil movies; I write Jake as if he has ADHD because that makes the most sense to me; and the way Eleven talks is very ADHD, too. And somehow, yeah, it all jumbled up in my head.

Sight Unseen 07-25-2011 09:04 AM

Either I don't dream, or never remember. I don't have trouble sleeping, in fact I probably sleep too much, I'll stay out cold until something wakes me up. But no matter how long or short a time I spend in bed I never remember having a dream, and I'm always as tired as when I got in bed, most of the time I feel like a zombie or something, never fully awake or fully asleep. It really sucks.

The only dream I remember having was about two years ago. I dreamed that I woke up, got ready, and went to school. I was about half way through a perfectly normal, dull school day when my alarm woke me up and I had to do it all over again. I was quite pissed at my subconcious for trolling me like that. It felt real too. I spent two hours on a homework assignment my Chem teacher gave me in the dream the next day, turned it in irl, and my teacher was like wtf is this.

rasomaso 07-26-2011 05:55 AM

OMG! I just had the stupidest dream about Avatar 2 ever. :xD: Basically the movie turns out so bad people watch it in pieces because it's so boring. "Hey man how far are you into Avatar 2?" "What? I watched it all already." "Really? I'm still at about 1/3 yet lol"

The storyline goes like this: Jake and Neytiri separate at the very beginning and lead their own clans. Neytiri is still the one that tries to live peacefully with everyone, even allows some more sky people to enter the village (a couple of new scientists and "fan tourists" lol). But Jake starts to be agressive and attack everything with his clan... Like there is a scene where he's leading an attack at the Neytiri's village and while he's running, his eyes turn black and red filled with rage and Neytiri stops him from attacking them just before he makes the first strike. She just screams at him and when he recognizes Neytiri and her village, they just run through the village to attack someone else... namely "Red's Army" :xD: Red is supposed to be like a British officer that turned mad in the first movie and separated from everyone else. Now he's leading his own clan, which is actually not Na'vi, but a whole new race of aliens. Basically they are all like regular black people that match Na'vi in height, but have a really silly looking small tail at the back of their heads.

It's sort of like the tail starts really thick at the back of the skull like 15 cm wide, is about 20 cm long and ends in a really thin piece of tail like 1 cm thick. It looks so stupid and that's it - the new masks for entire alien race, even star trek looked more convincing!

So the british officer Red guy is leading his own team of freaks and they fight with Jake's clan, which is where I stopped watching and just messaged a friend how far is he into Avatar 2 lol. :xD: Let's hope the movie doesn't turn so bad IRL. :xD:

I'm probably going back to sleep, since I woke up basically because I was bored of that dream lol, it was so bad! Just wanted to share this with you before I forget lol. :)

Empty Glass 07-26-2011 06:13 AM

Quick!! Write a letter to James Cameron telling him what NOT to make! :xD:

Human No More 07-26-2011 07:33 AM

I somehow doubt that's going to happen.

Sight Unseen - I have dreamed about getting up and having breakfast before, but they don't go past that point. One time many years ago, I did sleepwalk and actually have breakfast though, then went back to bed :P

Is it bad that I sort of like this? It brings in some much needed shades of grey. Actually I always sort of pictured Jake flying off the handle in later movies....becoming something of a warlord. Its that human mentality, just a predisposition to violence he can't shake.

Should I start running now?

Human No More 07-28-2011 03:40 PM

Yes. Run :P

Seriously, I doubt it.

I'm not sure about violence being HUMAN (it seems to be part and parcel of being alive, rather *eyes nature*), but I can actually see Jake flying off the handle at some stage. And, yes, please, bring on the shades of grey!

If you run, feel free to run over to my corner of fandom. :D?

(I mean, if one of the jobs of the clan-leader is to kill those who by Na'vi-technology and standards couldn't survive/be deemed functional, Jake is going to have to out there killing a lot of people who - had they been on a human battlefield - could have survived. People with broken backs, people with more than one limb missing. He'd be killing people like his friends in the Marines, people like himself. Even if they are mercy killings, THAT has to got to leave some scars there, poor man.)

As for my dreams lately, they are way, way, way too obviously influenced by my current stress. I do not approve. I like my dreams to take me far away to a world that is surreal and odd and works by its own rules, not dreams about not being able to pay rent. Do. Not. Approve.

No you run to my corner!

Also now that I have been doing a ton of work on my book all the characters have started to show up in my dreams. Its a little disconcerting but it really helps in writing them.

Wow, TMI for sure XD...

I take dreams seriously (how serious is dreaming about a tsunami 4 times in 2 months before Japan was hit??? but I had no idea it would be for real, I thought it was some kind of personal warning/danger...)

Here is one just before yesterday, either dream or that stage when you are already shifting in and out:

I see myself driving to work on the highway as usual. A silverish van appears behind me & it's just toooooo close to me for my liking. I tell the other driver mentally: "You're too close... get back... slow down... Brake!!" then I feel a "shake-up" & the shards of broken glass are flying around. Here I say: "Stop. Freeze. Where's the <-BACK button??? Rewind!.." The dream rewinds to seconds before the accident, & I "rewrite the script" & make it a "happy end movie": I say "Brake NOW" - the other driver slows down, gets further behind, & then moves to another lane. Then I know for a fact that I am waking up but I still have the time to declare: "No accidents for me, not today not ever! My way shall be clear & free!"

Guess what happens that very morning in RL? I drive to work as usual & at one point notice behind me a silverish van just toooooo close to me for my liking. It's strange cos the highway is quite clear, he could overtake me if he wanted to any time, but he doesn't, instead he stays glued to my behind. I think "What a pervy weirdo" & start telling the other driver mentally: "You're too close... get back... brake!!" And then I feel chilled all over & my hair stands up cos I recognize my dream in all the fine details. I think: "SH***!!!" & start "telling" the weirdo to slow down, brake & go to the other lane. He does so after a minute or two & moves to the next lane.

I was pretty shaken. What the.... happened????? I don't know but I do take dreams seriously, that's for sure!
