GM wheat crops in Australia, Greenpeace takes action

A mum takes action against GM wheat | Greenpeace Australia Pacific

What do you guys think about Genetically Modified foods? Be honest here.

I'm all for it if it's safe to eat.

Crazy extremists. Don't they know whipper-snappers run on gasoline and emit CO2 into the air?

Tsyal Makto 07-22-2011 05:21 AM

More trouble than they're worth, IMO. Organic farming provides better yields, without the risk of environmental contamination. There was a big thread on AF a while back about this. I can't post links ATM, I'm sure Aurora or another person who was there can link it.

Were those women arrested? I truly hope so.

Pa'li Makto 07-22-2011 05:26 AM

There has been a raid on the Greenpeace HQ by the Coppers but no charges yet.
I don't like it how some companies try to introduce their gm wares into supermarkets by stealth though. It's really, really morally wrong.

Just like destroying crops? :P

Pa'li Makto 07-22-2011 05:30 AM

Yeah..In a way..
:)

I know this is slightly off-topic, but I'm getting really sick and tired of hearing all this complaining from environmentalists and seeing things like this from extremists like Green Peace.

Those Weed whackers they used run on gasoline and oil and emit CO2 into our air. Not very environmentally friendly. I bet they drove there too.

Driving a vehicle, buying food from a supermarket, killing a bug in your house, and leaving a light on or a computer are all things that would make you a hypocrite if you call yourself an "environmentalist"...in my books at least.

Pa'li Makto 07-22-2011 05:46 AM

Very true. I know that a lot of the hypocrisy is entertaining sometimes and it's always around.
I imagine all the enviromentalists using smartphones and all won't like this.: Smartphones Caught up in Congo War Controversy - CBS News

Most of the "environmentalists" I've spoken with actually say they are hypocrites and are okay with that but still expect to be taken seriously.

And I had no idea about that smart phone thing. dang. :S

This is why I only take 2% of them seriously, and the rest are just crazy. Respected for actually practicing what they preach, but crazy.

I'm honestly not sure about genetically modified foods. On the one hand, I know of scientists developing strains of rice that can survive floods which would normally deplete a region's supply of crops; sounds like a good thing to me. Yet I do keep hearing that eating organic foods is better... Hmm, dunno if I can make a really informed statement on this.

Pa'li Makto 07-22-2011 06:05 AM

I suppose it can be both good and bad?

BUT, Organic foods have a shorter shelf life, hombre. So ya gotta eat your broccoli quick.

Pa'li Makto 07-22-2011 06:15 AM

Cauliflower is just as good.
