This breaks my heart warning: This video is shocking

This was the Indiana state fair stage collapse that killed 5 people, I had never seen this video. My heart and mind are with the families of those 5 killed that day :'(

Damn, that is so sad..:( Those poor people.
I send my best wishes to those families, and to anyone who was injured that day.
Plus I hope all the people who witnessed this tragedy recover.

At least it was only five. It could have very well been way more. That was a big stage.

Pa'li Makto 08-16-2011 04:41 AM

It's shocking to think that something like that could come apart so easily..You'd think that they would have safety checks before each show.

Empty Glass 08-16-2011 05:04 AM

An awful, awful thing to have happen. I can't bring myself to watch the whole video. :'(

I know some people, Indiana's governor included, think that this could not have been foreseen, though others disagree. From what I've gathered (and I immediately don't know the whole story) it seems like there was a gust of wind with greater speed than expected which came way too quickly. :(

iron_jones 08-16-2011 05:29 AM

It's that gosh darn wind.

Human No More 08-16-2011 02:55 PM

:(

They're designed to withstand high winds, someone probably didn't check it properly.

I mean it looks like something out of a movie, its that shocking.

Tsyal Makto 08-17-2011 01:53 AM

Damn shame. *sigh* TBH I'm surprised they went on with the show. From the news I heard, they had prior warning of that storm (half an hour!), but they still chose to go on. Just goes to show how important it is to heed weather warnings. I hope whoever chose not to cancel the show is held accountable.

Human No More 08-17-2011 02:10 AM

Again, it's more likely it probably just wasn't assembled/checked properly.

Tsyal Makto 08-17-2011 03:34 AM

That's still no reason to go on with a show when a NOAA-warned severe thunderstorm was on the way. Even if it could survive wind, there are other threats: flash flooding, hail, lightning, etc. This was a bad decision on the part of the fair management. Period. And they should be held accountable for it.

heard of this n just seein video for first time now. its sad, but surprised an official or constructor didnt think:

"you know what this structures pretty tall, its pretty windy out, its gonna storm pretty soon n lookin at those dark clouds raises a flag, i dont know about those canvas things at the top acting like a big sail"

wikkid fail. a fail that cost lives n injuries

some legal action should be taken I agree
