So bear precautions (bags/cans, food clean camp, possibly repellant) are prudent. - Mikko |
And I suppose that my Tsko swizaw would be frowned upon as a "repellant"? :D That's a JOKE folks, I'm just trying to inject some levity here. (I used to live in Steven's County, Washington, north of Spokane, I am very familiar with Washington State Bears).

Good luck using Tsko swizaw against a grizzly.
Not that you can't; just that I wish you luck in the endevour. (Most places you hit them, the skin is too thick .. you'll just piss them off.) - Mikko |
That's true Mikko, I was talking Black bears. For things in the class of Grizzly, or in your State Polar Bears, only if attacked, I have a DIFFERENT "bow" that shoots a different "arrow". It is a Weatherby in .300 Weatherby Magnum caliber.
Like Jake Sulley said, when I am on the hunt for food, I am a stone cold killer. Quote:

If we're in serious woods, I guess bears would be possible :S although, if we're around so many other campers, a bear would probably be afraid. Don't know if I could shoot a bear if I had to :xD: I've never shot an animal other than the spiny caterpillars that invade New Orleans in the spring :P I shoot them off the side of the house with a pellet gun.

If we're in a group, we should be making enough noise to give any bears plenty of warning that people will be coming through. But I'll bring a can of bear repellant because it's always something that I keep with me when out in the woods.

KalTXi ma frapo,
I've just made this thread - please have a look if it's ok: http://www.tree-of-souls.com/seattle...tml#post165562 |
It's fine to me, ma tsmuke. Someone would have to be a midget so share our 2 1/2 person tent with Ateyo te syaksyuk and myself, so I'm afraid we can't be any help there. If it turns out that after we take our tent out of it's storage, and it needs replacing, we will get a new one, probably three or four person. In that case, and we won't know till late next week, we could share it with a sister or two.
I will let everyone know what the eight year old, well used tent looks like between Christmas and New years. Niri Te |

There are a lot of people that have a problem telling a large brown bear from an younger Grizzly bear.
Here is a foolproof way to tell. If you see a large, aggressive brown bear, climb the nearest tree. If the bear follows you up the tree, it is a Brown bear, if it stays on the ground, rips the tree out of the ground, and shakes you out of it, than it is a Grizzly Bear. |
That's... not that helpful.
Also, bear repellent is a real thing? that made me hrh :P |
That was a joke, I won't joke on ToS anymore.
|
...I wasn't being critical, I intended my reply to be joking too. Sorry :(

Oh I know that you weren't, and I knew that you were being funny as well. When I thought about the way that I worded that though, you WERE right, the comment did not offer anything constructive on what to do if confronted by a bear. Other than perhaps causing a chuckle or two out of a few people, it did not offer much, and as a result, I will TRY to refrain from humor, just for the sake of humor on a serious site.
