Good or anywhere near acceptable at math? READ THIS

Please don't TL;DR!
(But I have highlighted the main point in yellow just in case you do)

Here's the deal. I have an online math class that started a week ago, but I was under the impression it started this week and had my computer worked on. I got on lateish last night for the first time to see that I had three quizzes due. They are due tonight at midnight. I did the first two, one I have 100% on (word problems), one I have a 77% (radicals), and the third is yet to be submitted. The third should be the easiest, just basic algebra, but I've done the practice again and again and math is very difficult for me, so I have never gotten a passing grade.

I am asking someone to get on IRC with me tonight while I take the quiz and help me get the answers.

I have never in my life been good at math past the simple algebra level, but I want very much to change that. I'm going to keep trying to take math courses, even if I keep doing badly. I like math. I don't want to be one of those people who gave up on a scientific career because I couldn't do it, and I sure as hell don't want to start out with an F because I was unexpectedly hit with these three quizzes having no preparation.

I'll really appreciate any help. Thanks for reading :)

I'd just about always be willing to help, but not in that circumstance.

Super. Thanks for dropping in.

Failed it. You guys are the best.

Have you considered taking responsibility for your own education?

It's not our fault that we didn't help you cheat.

I don't want you to fail, and would gladly help in other ways, but you can't expect us to help you do something most people consider wrong.

could you post some of the questions you had to do? algebra is pretty easy

This- I'm sure the people here would be willing to help you learn the material for next time.

If it's just algebra, the more advanced calculators can probably solve it for you. Asking a human for help (rather than outright for the answers) is hardly cheating.

if you post some of the problems you were given, I'll help ya with them.

It is, in most cases (and clearly in this case since Moco directly said this), 100% cheating.

It has nothing to do with what calculators can and cannot do, and we don't even know if Moco is allowed to use a calculator at all.

Holy **** guys, calm down.
I don't appreciate everyone dropping in just to tell me that I'm cheating, and I don't need you all telling me how easy algebra is. :'(

Algebra isn't easy, so much as there are harder things that you can be asked to do, depending one exactly what you're being tested on. (e.g. calculus/proofs.) As I mentioned on IRC, the way I think of it is that algebra is just manipulating a string, according to a buch of rules. If you know the rules, (and you do. 2+2=4 is such a rule) and you know what the final result is supposed to look like, then it becomes easy.

Yeah, asking someone more experienced for help is cheating. :P

Well look, if you have trouble with algebra, which, in my opinion, is a perfectly common thing for many people, ask someone who knows about it for help. A supervisor, a teacher, whatever. If you still have problems with it, consider going to a tutor.

I'm crap at geometry, for example. I've worked on it, and it's getting better. Slowly, but still. :P

If you have a problem, simply don't reply - this thread doesn't concern your perceptions of this. Just because it's cheating in someone's opinions doesn't actually make it cheating.

If you need any help, ask me when I'm on in the future - sorry I missed the original request in time with this thread :(

I have to agree with Icu on this one, but that of course is just my humble opinion. If you were asking for help and not just answers, I'm sure the response would have been quite different. :/

Heh, Algebra, I sucked at Algebra. Passed it with a 71% and was like "Neva again!". :P
