EXCUSE ME - NEED TO BE UPDATED ON DISCUSSION REGARDING NO SPIRITUALIST DISCUSSIONS

Before I rant and rave .. 48 year old .. ELDER here has enough sense to ask .. what exactly has been the discussion and the issues .. and forewarn lengthy and rather disruptive output on the topic will take place... after I have heard the details.

EYWA help this forum, and anyone whom would presume to initiate a banning of such discussions ... there's a choice not nice word to describe it, that in my livid moment I can't remember .....

For my 2 cents, I agree that censorship is mostly bad yes. But on this forum, religion tends to be a jumping off point for arguments. Censoring this would prevent such arguments from occurring. Again, I'm all for not being censored, but I'm more in favor for staying a close family of Avatar fans.

Yes but religion contains spirituality so that's what I went off of...

it can in some cases, but not in all of them. religion is more of like a way or path to itself, spirituality is more of what you yourself want to believe about a certain topic. spirituality would be practicing of what you believe, but not forcing it upon others or any of that such

Quote:

Religion, whether practiced by one or many, generally consists of a "set path" or a working guide to either enlightenment or salvation. They consist of such things as dogma and rituals as a way to commune with their own deity or a path to enlightenment.

Spirituality is the desire and drive behind what a person believes. It can either be accompanied by a religion/dogma or stand alone. If a person has a belief in something greater whether it is a deity (god), enlightenment or something unnamable , and acts upon that belief in some way (prayer, meditation, good will towards others, acts of kindness, living a "good life" or bad, pursuit of higher knowledge ect.) then that person could be seen as spiritual. Many people label themselves spiritual when they have the belief in something greater but cannot bring themselves to trust in a set religion or dogma.

After deciphering this post, I completely and utterly agree. :)

I certainly hope that this forum does not regularly practice censorship. At least, not for such a topic like spirituality. There are far, far worse subjects that are much more deserving of censorship.

I know there are people here who are firmly spiritual and others who are firmly athiest (and perhaps others in between who indulge their curiosity and investigate either side). Arguments, slandering, censorship...these things do not need to exist on Tree of Souls. All that's required is that we show mutual respect for each others' beliefs and perhaps some occasional self-restraint if we find that we have nothing nice to say about what someone believes or does not believe. Post and let post. No one here should feel hurt and unwelcome because of his or her (non)spiritual beliefs.

I honestly cannot tell if this was meant to be serious.

Though I slightly agree. But religious discussions just end up being arguments that go in circles.

Empty Glass 09-05-2011 05:01 AM

Tossing in my two cents... I think what we need are two kinds of threads for spiritual discussions:

1) Designated debate threads where members of either persuasion can discuss a specific aspect of spirituality or atheism. Perhaps they will indeed go in circles...so be it. If people want to debate, then they can do so here. Others can just ignore these threads.

2) Threads where debate and attempts to provoke or incite arguing are not welcomed; these threads can be for sharing ideas, raising questions, peaceful and thoughtful discussions, etc.

Icu 09-05-2011 05:59 AM

Is this actually happening? Last I checked there was nothing like this in place.

Pa'li Makto 09-05-2011 06:18 AM

It has.

Here's my 2 cents. People get religion and spirituality confused. It's natural to assume that religion is spirituality because religions believe in some higher being and conduct rituals..Yet that's where the comparisons end. Spiritualists doesn't even need a god to worship, like the shaman for example. Spirituality is more about human nature and the influence of the spirits of nature on oneself and the environment. The Na'vi are spiritual so why can't we have a thread about the sharing of spiritual experiences? Heck meditation and dreaming have been talked about in other subforums and they are spiritual experiences.

One other thing: Why do we have an environmental subforum and not a spiritual one as well?

Environmentalism and Spirituality are completely different things. That doesn't, however, make spirituality any less important of an issue.

"I have a bad feeling about this."

I just can't seem to understand why this is suddenly a problem.

Fkeu'itan 09-05-2011 10:10 AM

Finally, someone said it... Thank you Mika.

You don't see that Sight Unseen? Really?

You can't see how the stubborn and unfounded actions of a few people here outlawing free discussion for a good number of others isn't an issue here?

On a forum?

About AVATAR...
(some people need reminding this forum isn't only for anti-spirituaist scientist metalheads who want everything their way.)

You thought that discussions about spirituality caused arguments... You should see what happens when you ban them.
