AVATAR out of 3D

NOOO!!

Today through thursday are the last 12 showings of AVATAR until the DVD release!
Dragons comes out friday, and they needed something to put in a 3D theater for this week. If i don't see it one more time before the small screen, I will die!

Is anyone elses' theater showing past the 26th?
Or is that the last day?

Vauktu 03-22-2010 08:38 AM

My local 3D theater will continue to show Avatar until the 26th of this month, but they haven't made any further plans, so I'm not completely sure how much longer they will keep it.

zongtseng 03-22-2010 08:40 AM

I still have plenty through Thursday. My local theaters don't post the next week (starting Friday) until Wednesday usually, so I won't know until then. I expect it to still be around at least for night shows though. I don't imagine How to Train Your Dragon will be big with the midnight crowd :)

Human No More 03-22-2010 09:43 AM

Mine's actually put Avatar back in 3D... Only once a day though :(
I guess Alice in LSDland wasn't making them enough money.
I'm going to see it in IMAX again next Monday though :D

rapunzel77 03-22-2010 04:38 PM

Mine already took it out of 3D :(. However, they still have three showings a day in 2D. The theatre still kept it on even though there were some new releases this past week. I hope I will get the chance to see it again soon.

Gunny 03-22-2010 05:00 PM

No 3D left here was taken out about 2 weeks ago :'(

Still have it 2D I think but its on the worst camera and worst screen. Still saw it once though and will go again if they are still showing this week probably :D

Sovereign 03-22-2010 05:44 PM

They'll put it back if they need money. The theaters around me took it away once Alice came out, but I have a feeling it may make a comeback.

Txum_kali'weya 03-23-2010 02:47 AM

it just went to 2D when alice came out, now its in the newly-upgraded 3D theater that was made in preparation for dragons. that is why it leaves on friday.

TxonTirea 03-23-2010 02:32 PM

Mines still going strong, with two showings a day, everyday. :D <333

Sacred Tsahaylu 03-23-2010 04:15 PM

I thought, over the past week, that this was my last week to see it until DVD. I thought it was going out of cinema on Thursday. However, I have just checked and it is still in until at least Monday. I am so happy. I can celebrate finishing my difficult assignment by going to see Avatar :D :D
Screw it, I don't need justification :D

Helicoradian 03-23-2010 07:57 PM

I have a gut wrenching feeling that Avatar will be taken out of my theater this Friday:( might need to make time to see it one last time.

Ateyo 03-23-2010 09:33 PM

damn!! I didn“t notice that, it could be my last time too... thanks for the post anyway :(

Well, to update this, all is not well. Two of my three multiplexes have posted their weekend schedule, and Avatar in 3D is gone from both. It will remain in 2D on both however. The final one I am waiting on has 3 RealD3D screens and an IMAX, so I'm holding out hope Avatar remains on one of the RealD3D screens (How to Train Your Dragon takes IMAX, AiW takes 2 of the RealD3D, and Avatar gets the 3rd RealD3D) I'm not too confident though :'(

The real question is this... the last showing at the Indiana State Museum IMAX of Avatar is this Thursday at 6:15PM. I've already made the 4 hour roundtrip drive twice to there.... do I do it again? I really, really shouldn't, but a last view on a real film IMAX is pretty tempting.

Sadly, my local 3D theater has decided to end Avatar's 3D run this Friday in order to make room for Alice in Wonderland (which was taken from my other local 3D theater in order to make room for 'How to Train your Dragon'), though they will being showing Avatar in 2D throughout the week.

Helicoradian 03-24-2010 09:14 PM

Thursday night will be the last time Avatar is shown in real-d up here. It will still be shown in 2d at least with 4 showings per day. I'm debating taking off from school Thursday to see it or seeing it tonight for the last time in 3d:'(

If it's a real 90' screen IMAX, go see it again. Although there has been talks of a re-release it's not written in stone yet and this is one of those things that doesn't come along but every once in a great while.

Txum_kali'weya 03-25-2010 03:33 AM

YES!

i am going one last time tomorrow...

It is, and I am :D

I went yesterday, but I'm having thoughts about going again today. My theater plans on taking Avatar out of 3D on Friday. While they are placing it on their 2D screens the same day, I'm not quite sure how it will compare.

EDIT: Wait... no, one of my theaters is actually putting it BACK in 3D on Friday, March 26. Apparently, they got another 3D projector.
*sequels in joy*

:D

Stanley_9875 03-25-2010 04:12 PM

I havent been to this section of the forums in a couple days, so I totally missed this thread, but I was going to see Avatar in Real-D 3-D last friday, but the last two showings were at 7:00pm and 10:30pm, and I couldn't see it at 7:00pm because I get out of college at 7:00pm so I had this plan to go see Avatar at 10:30pm, it is a Friday night so I didn't care how late I stayed up (I don't care on weekdays either haha little humor for this sad thread) so I called my mom after dropping my friend off at his house (he totaled his car) and told her I was going to hang out at the mall till about 10:00pm and go see Avatar at 10:30pm... I should've expected this next part to happen. "10:30? wow thats really late, not tonight" I was dumfounded. What? Its too late? "I don't want you driving around that late at night" she continued. I'm freaking 19 years old, I've been driving for 2 1/2-3 years I've been out way later than 12:00 or whenever the movie got out. She treats me like a child. And she wonders why I want to move out so badly. So I couldn't see it Friday night, Saturday (I was busy all day long) or Sunday (again I was busy). "Thats okay" I told myself, "I get out of college this Friday, so I'll go see it in Real-D 3-D at 7:00pm, and no one is telling me otherwise. So today I checked the times to make sure nothing changed, and I looked at the big theater by my college, and scrolling down all that was there was Avatar. No Real-D 3-D next to it. I couldn't believe it. I missed my oppertunity to see it one last time in Real-D 3-D. I could seriously cry right now if I wan't at work. I'm still going to go see it, I'm just afraid it won't be the same. I have to see Avatar again though, I haven't seen it in nearly 3 weeks and I feel like I'm going mad. I was fearing of this day for a long time, and now it's finally came. There are sad times ahead, but if we look in the direction of a light they won't seem as sad or dark. This movie is being released to us on Blue-Ray and DVD in the next month, thats pretty fast. Everyday is a day closer to the release of Avatar 2. Everyday is a day closer to the other two releases of Avatar on DVD and Blue-Ray. Still I can't help but stay as much in the sad as the happy. And I just checked for the 27th and the theater is playing Avatar in 2-D still. so it's still playing after the 26th for me... but for how much longer I can't say. Oel ngati kameie

Fkeu'itan 03-25-2010 04:21 PM

That sucks stanley, I really hope you get to see it again tomorrow. As for me, the local cinema is still showing it in 3D, but it's dropped down to 2 showings a day, both of which are pretty early in the day which seems to point to the direction of them dropping it all together soon. :(

Ah well, at least I preordered the blu-ray. ;)

I also preordered it in Blue-Ray as well... now I just need to get a Blue-Ray player haha also that night I ended up staying out past 12:30am with my friends anyways so I felt even more upset haha

Aww that double-sucks! :)

At least you were in good company.

And you don't have a blu-ray player yet? I'd suggest getting a PS3. It will stay up-to-date with all the latest blu-ray advances. They've already confirmed that later this year they're upgrading the firmware so that it can do 3D blu-ray. :D

Human No More 03-25-2010 05:15 PM

Meh, PS3s are overpriced. I'm just going to add a bluray drive to my computer, and save £160 or so plus the cost of a TV :P, also saves the hassle of getting a Ps3, setting it up, and the realisation that I just spent £210 on something I will only ever use to watch Avatar and maybe play Brutal Legend (the only other reason to get a PS3)

Chris 03-25-2010 05:21 PM

Well i live in the capital city but was orginally from a smaller town about 50 miles away - and its going through its last viewings here as well, but luckily a new cinema opened in my old hometown and ofc its gonna show avatar in 3d and guess who will be going there in his holidays to visit his family.. xD

It's not all that overpriced if you ask me. It's defeinitely cheaper than the original, which is priced ridiculously high. The newer PS3 is $400.00 cheaper than the original, though the newer model has less features. As well as it being a great game console, it's also considered one of the best blu-ray players on the market, which is exactly why I'm trying to get one. To add to that, the PS3's blu-ray player is 3D compatible, so you can play 3D movies on it.

Human No More 03-25-2010 05:49 PM

Great console maybe, but a PC is still > any console. The only game I'd ever want on a console is Brutal Legend, and would prefer that on PC if only they actually released it  - Also, as I said before, I would need to buy a TV (and then most likely get into problems since I'd have to say 'yes, I do have a TV but I don't use it to watch TV so I'm not giving you £150/year that I really don't have' - not sure they would accept that, lol.)

Helicoradian 03-25-2010 06:33 PM

Well I got a ticket to see it later today for the last time in 3d:'(

Yeah, I see. I can understand your reasoning. There's not much reason for me to get a PS3 either as I don't own any PS3 games, though I plan on making use of more than just the blu-ray player in the future (God of War looks like a good game... :)). Same goes for TV, but it's about time the household got a decent TV.

Txum_kali'weya 03-26-2010 03:21 AM

well, i saw it one last time in 3D.

i almost did cry when i got home...

it is continuing in 2D, but it's just not the same.

zongtseng 03-26-2010 03:56 AM

I am just back from the final showing at the Indiana State Museum film IMAX. I had tears right from the opening flyover, and it continued most of the movie. I can't believe it's gone... I know it will come back at some point, but that really doesn't help at the moment. PAD is back at it's absolute highest level for me:'(

Stanley_9875 03-26-2010 02:40 PM

I'm probably going to cry tonight at the theater I'f it's my last showing of Avatar. DEar Lord I would love to see It again if it's still in theaters but still it's the whole fact that the time of it being taken out saddens me dearly :'(

I really hate typing on my iTouch as you can tell by all these mistakes

I know exactly how you feel. I saw the last showing of Avatar at my local IMAX theatre two days ago. I had only seen Avatar once before, in 2D. Watching it in 3D on an IMAX screen was ... incredible. I was in tears from the opening flyover too, all the way until the end of the movie. I thought my PAD was bad the first time around, but right now it's stronger than I ever thought possible...

Davy Jones 03-27-2010 10:03 PM

It's still here in sweden, gothenburg, and at the rate those tickets are getting sold out, I'd say it's gonna stay a couple of more weeks, even if the DVD is out or not (since it's 3d.. and CINEMA after all, it's a whole other experience :P)
I don't know if fox would like that really, heh, but anyway, every Wednesday tickets are released here, up until thursday the week thereafter. And there's an icon next to the movies that are kinda "last chance" to see, and Avatar doesn't have that.

zongtseng 03-27-2010 10:07 PM

Yeah, if anything, I would expect to see a shift back toward 3D screens when the DVD comes out. The 3D cinema experience cannot be replicated at home, and won't be any time soon. If we are talking about IMAX, then yeah, that probably won't ever be duplicated at home, except by the super rich :)

Davy Jones 03-28-2010 12:47 AM

oh man, a personal IMAX :O

I was curious for a couple days after seeing Avatar opening night how much it would cost to build your own personal IMAX theater...

Yeah my last 3d experience was extraordinarily sad for me too:'( And the scene where Jake opens his eyes at the end of the movie made me cry just a little:'( Normally I am very emotionless but this was the first time Avatar got to me, and the first time a movie has ever made me cry. Looking back on it this viewing was almost as profound to me as the very first but I cant really say why, beside the fact it was the last 3d showing at the local theater. Starting to feel a case of PAD coming back...

Exactly. When Jake started saying, "I don't want to be late for my own party," I felt such a sinking feeling, knowing that the movie was almost over. I got hit with PAD the second the credits finished rolling, and really wanted it to go away. It's gone today, and now I desperately want it back... I'm very confused! :S

Boomachucka 03-29-2010 07:42 PM

:( I'm so very sad that I didn't realize last weekend was the last weekend for Avatar in 3D. It's only 2D now.

Damnit, and I was trying to be nice by not going over the weekend for my girlfriend! Should have taken the opportunity.

IkranTswonya 04-02-2010 07:57 PM

Last night was the final showings of Avatar in town. The final 3D showing was late afternoon. There were a few 2D showings at a couple other theaters later, but now Avatar has surrendered its final screens to Clash of the Titans.

A run of almost 4 months in theaters is pretty amazing.
