If An Avatar MMO Was Released; Would You Play It?

I would not, for several reasons.

1. It will cost money. I do not want to pay money to talk to all of you.

2. I really like our conversations about deeper things the most. These kind of things I feel can be discussed better here and in IRC, than in a computer game.

3. I want to feel Pandora in my mind, get my own impression of how it would feel to be there. Not really play it out in a game.

4. I am not interested in playing a game. I want to talk to all of you, befriend you :) Not play a game.

5. An avatar game would force me to focus on that and nothing else if I would like to speak to you. Right now I can do things at the same time, which is very important for me as I am a quite busy person.

What is your opinion?

Thorinair 03-22-2010 06:51 PM

I would totally play it and hope it doesn't get ruined by some twelve-year-olds. :D

Fosus 03-22-2010 07:07 PM

No, I will not.

This is why.

I have a high lvl RegnumOnline character. I had just upgraded my hardware before christmas but since experiencing PAD, no game has felt like worth playing. And I hope it remains this way.

Iceri 03-22-2010 07:52 PM

I vote for Blizzard, BioWare, and James Cameron to get together and make this ;)
I'd play it but only if it were Pay-to-Play, and had great endgame content and good developers. I don't want it to be half-assed like the 360 game... sad day.

Eltu 03-22-2010 07:53 PM

Then we disagree, I guess.

I do not want to pay a monthly fee to be with all you.

Sorry.

Human No More 03-22-2010 07:58 PM

I would, if it was good. I wouldn't see it as replacing here in any way. Yes, I do pay money to play games already, I guess it's just how I'm different, so that's not an issue for me.
Yes, I want to feel Pandora in my mind too, but if a MMO was available, I know I'd play it, assuming it was a good representation of Pandora (and I can be Na'vi!)

Sorry.

If I played, I wouldn't stop going here... It would just be another way to escape this world for Pandora...

SullyJake1 03-22-2010 09:29 PM

i can only pray to eywa that they make one, i would play it all the time

Iceri 03-23-2010 12:46 AM

Pay to play ensures money to the developers, which means more money to the games quality and continued support.

Eltu 03-23-2010 09:01 AM

Well, my issue does not lie in whether the game is well-made or not, but rather the fact that... well, it's a social game...

Vauktu 03-23-2010 09:13 AM

I most definitely would if it was good.

Also, I have not heard of any game that was P2P (play-to-play) only. Most online MMO games I've played have had roughly 30% of the content F2P (free-to-play) and the other 70% P2P.

Human No More 03-23-2010 11:29 AM

I've never seen ANY MMO with free content other than a trial :P

(Unless you count ones where you can buy a lifetime subscription, I guess)

TxonTirea 03-23-2010 12:59 PM

Yes, I would play it non-stop. I'm so praying to Eywa that Blizzard and Bioware and JC get together and go "Hmm, seems people want an Avatar MMORPG..."
<33333

PaTRioT 03-25-2010 09:14 AM

Never played a MMORPG. not interested in it either. I would love for a better Avatar game to come out other than the one they released, but as far as MMO's are concerned, definitely not my thing at all

Blizzard = DO NOT WANT.

Bioware on the other hand... :D

This, this, this!!
If it's a story-based MMO, I'd certainly try it at least... and of course, this would not stop me from coming here as much as I can. By no means the game would be a replacement of our great forum! :D

Exactly what I think. More ways to keep yourself on Pandora is never a bad thing.

Huurraaa 03-28-2010 06:58 AM

I also prefer the forum, not because I don't like an avatar mmorpg...but how is it gonna be like? An online game filled with Jakes, Neytiries, and Quaritches? :D That's more like a nightmare to me.

Sovereign 03-28-2010 07:50 AM

No, at least not yet.

The Avatar Universe, as much potential as it has, is too small right now. I feel like with two more movies any MMO would have to wait (or have advance knowledge) to avoid creating a ret-con mess. Furthermore, most MMOs are complicated affairs with lots of classes. This really wouldn't work too well with the Na'vi as they are now. We don't know enough about them, and I'm afraid there would be things created that don't add to the universe, they would only exist for the game.

I mean, look how Avatar the Game threw the whole tsahaylu thing out, they also made Thanators almost pet-like! I just think a game would mess things up.

Susano'o 09-29-2011 04:56 PM

Hot news!:)

Eltu 09-29-2011 05:23 PM

Why, oh why cannot they make an immersive single-player RPG based on Avatar?

*sighs...*

Moco Loco 09-29-2011 05:56 PM

I'd like that too Eltu, but I wouldn't mind trying the MMO.

It feels like you only focus on the social aspects of the game and not the game experience. No game will ever be able to replace ToS for me. I don't think it should neither. I mean... who play MMO's only to converse with people? :P (Except roleplayers ;) )

And this is a social forum. How would sociability ruin an avatar game?

Guild Wars - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'm getting GW2 next year. :awesome:

I definitely wouldn't mind that. :) I just pray for it to be in 3rd person. (I'm not the Elder Scrolls 1st person type... )

Empty Glass 09-29-2011 07:11 PM

Responding to this first...

Regarding a MMO...maybe if it was reportedly really good I'd give it a try, but I think for me it would feel ironic with the Avatar world - sitting in front of a computer pretending to be in a forest when after seeing the movie I have a huge ambition to visit earthly forests myself. (Though having said that, I probably shouldn't talk considering my attachment to ToS.)

Human No More 09-29-2011 08:43 PM

Eltu, because a single player RPG will run out of content. An MMO will always have something new :D

Isard 09-29-2011 08:45 PM

If it was well done and generally fun, why not?

Do you feel that way about Avatar, too? It "runs out of content"? ;)

For me, a game is a story, an experience - just like Avatar. It's not about the amount of content, it's about how much the content affects me. And I can gladly re-experience good single-player games over, and over. :)

LOVEAvatar: I'm not saying an Avatar MMO would be a bad game, and some may definitely be able to enjoy it - but it's nothing I'd be interested in, personally. To use a metaphor, it'd be like watching Avatar in the cinema with people around you constantly talking to each other and loudly commenting what's happening in the movie. Would totally ruin the experience.

I like experiencing a game all by myself. I like being able to immerse myself into a storyline without anyone else interrupting. I like being able to control the game (pause at any time, save at any time, etc.) - besides a great storyline and experience, all those things is what I look for in a game.

Thus, while an Avatar MMO may very well be a good game, I'd never want to play it. ;)

This is EXACTLY what I think... I'd rather not get too involved, myself, when I could be out there, building shelters, starting campfires, making flint weapons and generally having a good time in real life.

The latest, most cutting edge RPG ever...

Hyper-realistic physics engine including real-time implementation of liquid simulation.
Real-time shadows, day/night cycle, plus in-game dates and calendar.
Over 6 billion character presets.
Infinte crafting/weapons customisation system.
And in complete 3D!

It's Real-life!

:P

Icu 09-30-2011 12:21 AM

I'd be kind of interested in playing but... I'm afraid I'd realize one day that I'd spent 1000 hours on it so I probably wouldn't.

Pa'li Makto 09-30-2011 12:45 AM

I wouldn't..Mainly because you have to enter into a subscription contract and you have to play for a amount of time that you choose such as a month or two. You still have to pay the fee even if you tire of it and don't play it. Also I don't want to be glued to a screen and not interact with both family and friends and my family here. ;)

I'd rather go for TOS to socialise with you all and if I want a direct experience then I'd make a campfire or visit a forest similar to Fkeu's plan. ;)

MMO? Ugh, no. I'll play it once it loses popularity and becomes free.

World of Warcraft is free to play to a degree. So is Global Agenda. I wouldn't call them terrible games.

A 'terrible game' is a debatable subject.

It has a free trial, and Global Agenda has micro transactions.

Raiden 10-01-2011 06:51 AM

I voted yes, but I'm not sure I want an MMO.

To be more specific, if this wound up being like WoW, I would not play it. If it were an FPS MMO, then I might consider playing it, but the problem with MMOs is that you really have to play with other people to get anywhere. One of the most attractive parts of Pandora is the possibility of exploring it, and I'd rather explore it alone, in a 1st person perspective.

The other reason I want it not to be like WoW is that I don't want it to become all about getting money or equipment or loot; that breeds repetition, and one of the main reasons why many people hate WoW is because of how damn reptitive it is.

I could go on for pages about why Blizzard is bad in general for gaming, but really, all I want out of this is:

1) A game set on Pandora directly after the events of the movie
2) A game where you start as a character of your making (think like Mass Effect) which can then choose sides
3) A game that has a rich single-player/campaign game as well as multiplayer of some sort
4) A game that does not become all about micromanaging stats, etc.
5) A game that has large amount of toolbench/crafting sessions in it

Other than that, it would be cool.

True, but you can at least enjoy a good slice of the game before deciding to commit your wallet to it.

Clarke 10-01-2011 01:08 PM

No; I don't play any MMOs regularly.

That's exactly what I think an avatar game needs. You don't have to have an MMO to get that but I suppose we'll see what comes out in the next few years.
