Some love for Grace!
Neytiri is beautiful and Jake is awesome. This all goes without saying. But what about some love for the Dr. Augustine? Grace doesn't get nearly the appreciation she deserves for the pivotal role she plays in the film.
Besides ... especially in avatar form ... she's very attractive! http://img19.imageshack.us/img19/435...eravatarsm.jpg |
Yeh she looks really nice in her AVATAR. Only the nose is too humanish xD Yep, Grace is surely essential in the movie :)
|
Grace is certainly good too... She is actually surprisingly good looking as a human though, especially considering her age :)

You know, I never noticed that she has legit eyebrows in her Avatar form.
I mean, I know she has many other more human features as well, but I only just noticed that now! |
Yeah, all the avatars had eyebrows.

<3 Grace. Her roll as a power-female in the film enticed me. She shows extrodinary command and a "kick-ass" attitude. Love when she stands up to "Ranger Rick"
~Skxawng <3'ing Grace :) |
After Neytiri and Jake, Grace is my favourite character from the movie. A great researcher and a great woman, who respects and loves what she's studying.
Go Grace, go! :D |
The thing I love about Grace's character is that she may have a tough exterior but she's incredibly protective and has a soft side that is so tangible, almost like a mother goose in a way.
Like how she is with the schoolchildren =] |
Oh I loved Grace. She was so strong and powerful...I loved when she stood up to Quaritch lol! But then she was sweet and kind and gentle towards the Na'vi children. And I loved how you could just see how passionate she was about her work, both with the plants and with the Na'vi. She died trying to protect the Na'vi... I have to say, Grace is a stronger role model for me than Neytiri (don't kill me :))
Oh, and Sigourney Weaver is gorgeous. I was amazed to find out how old she actually is... I thought she was many years younger than that! :) (She is 60 for those of you who don't know) |
Wow.....and she still looks fantastic :) But yeash, next to Jake & Neytiri, Grace is one of my fave characters.
|
I find Grace's avatar to be physically more attractive than Neytiri but still, Neytiri is the one that I'm in love with. I guess there's something magical about Neytiri that smites us all.

Some love for Grace!
I always thought Grace had the cutest avatar. She is also played by Sigourney who is superior. She's smart and compassionate and how she opens up to Jake through the movie is so sweet. I kind of wish I saw more interaction between her and Neytiri. Perhaps there was but it wasn't shown in the movie because it happened before Jake got to isv venture star and before the timeline of the movie and such. But all the more excitement for avatar 2 because no one REALLY dies in sci fi.

what struck me was the fact that her avatar is the one that really resembles her human form the most. i mean, you don't really recognise zoe saldana in her avatar form and you barely "see" sam worthington in his avatar, the same with joel moore.
possibly it's because, as r-d-a noticed, her avatar's nose is, er, "too human". maybe if she had a "more na'vi" nose she might be less recognisable. btw, did anyone else notice that na'vi grace almost had a different personality than human grace? i mean, the human was almost an antisocial b*tch, whilst some could say the avatar was the graceful, loving aunt everyone wants to have. the behaviours were really different. it reminds me of the grace character from "project 880" that says she's cinderella in her avatar form and a pumpkin in her human form. |
That idea was probably watered down a great deal before Grace's lines were finished, I at least have never made any distinction between her personality in the avatar as opposed to out of it, except for maybe the mood boost of being in an avatar in the first place. After all, wouldn't everybody here be more than happy to be in an avatar? That's all I ever thought it was.

Agreeded, it would have been confusing for people who weren't following the film  and would ask, wait why is the cold women so friendly now? Though the idea of grace having radically different personalities in and out of her avatar is interesting. I sense fan fic time! |
Even if you were following the film, it's so focused on Jake for two and a half hours that there isn't really time for anyone else.
|
@moco loco: ?! you never noticed the differences in personality between human-grace & avatar-grace? the contrast was really striking, considering the almost acrimonious/hostile dialogue between grace and jake before he goes into the link for the first time and the big smile she has when they initially meet in avatar form.
funny to think that an almost three hour film doesn't have time to cover other characters just a bit more, don't you think? @exoblade: *that*, i did notice when i saw the film for the first time and i did indeed briefly ask myself "why is she friendly, now?". but then, the rest of the story happened... and btw, shouldn't link time wean grace off cigarettes? |
Agreed, the main problem is that after that scene (which is a pretty good one) she just reaches a point between the 2 and never really changes.
|
And that's why I only thought it was because everybody loves being in avatars. Other aspects of her personality are still decently developed though, especially by the extra scene where she's explaining what happened at the school.

i don't know about (badly quoting you) "everybody loving to be in avatars"; i think there is something else happening here.
we don't know much about what happened/happens to the science team before & after jake came to pandora. the film is so focused on jake that the other avatar drivers' interactions with the na'vi or even the pandoran ecosystem itself are somewhat of a mystery. we barely see other avatars training inside the hell's gate compound; the same with grace & norm on that fateful science sortie when jake ended up running for his life. the best hypothesis i can come up with is that the avatar drivers' time on pandora, especially the sort of interaction with their environment possible for them might have an cumulative impact, that either brings out positives aspects of their personalities (? right word, here?) or changes them for the better. the fact that the science team is not there to rape & pillage pandora for its resources might be a definite factor in how its members are affected by their stay on a relatively untouched and still (somewhat) pristine world, coming from one where nature has been effectively wiped out. maybe this is why avatar-grace is so maternal towards the na'vi, why she is friendlier than human-grace towards jake. maybe this is also why the science team ends up siding with the na'vi -- even though the scenes where they attack & take over hell's gate's control centre were cut, they are shown garding/escorting the humans off pandora in the final cuts of film. so i think we can assume they did indeed take arms against the r.d.a., even if it wasn't shown. |
