I don't generally come across rubbish when I go, but I'm sure I would remove it if I did :) Quote:
I've done it a few times, but my costume is really nothing like some of the amazing ones some people do, although I'm planning to improve it for the meetup :) Quote:

You would feel really in character though, it would be amazing! :D Quote:
But then with every person who throws away trash there's another person that cleans up the environment and they do three times as much work as the litterer would. Physical features..Hmm all I can think of to pull of a Na'vi cosplay would be to be more on the slender side, have biggish eyes and have more of a flat nose. Though I think you could be short and still have a go at it. :) Quote:
I admire people who can have intense body modifications such as having the tip of their tongue halved to look like a snake or lizard. Though they would have to have enormous amounts of will to have it done, and be happy to live like that for the rest of their lives. The clay plates often symbolise a female's desirability and ability in tribes in Africa where they have it done. Normally the daughter of the family will have it done to get married to a man in return for animals, often cows brought to her family in exchange. I think I saw an episode on that show Going Tribal in which a woman who could fit a bigger plate in her lip was given 60 cows in return for her marriage to a man. |
Maybe after I've painted myself a few times, I'll have some dreams where I get to be an avatar :D
|
That's possible. :)

Coldplay's "Paradise" from their latest album Mylo Xyloto seems to remind me a lot of Avatar. Helps bring me back to the PAD days and my longings for...well, Paradise. :)

The beginning makes me think of Avatar :)

An idea: if you dress up as a woman of knowledge from Earth (NA, Celtic, Siberian, African, whatever), I am sure the Na'vi will love you anyway! (at least they do in Moco Loco's dreams). All you'll need will be some beads/leather jewellry, braids & maybe facepaint, & you're cruising. (I'll comment on bodypaint & Pa'li's video maybe later, I really have to go now :( ) Quote:
Kiyevame ma Na'vi'ya, |
Tsyal, I'm going to listen to that track you posted. Finally. :)

Oh, then I guess you're probably right :)

I hear Apache did a Na'vi costume for halloween. :D I bet she had some interesting feelings when she saw herself becoming one of the people. I think cosplay is a great way to rekindle avatar feelings..Almost like you're becoming a new person/character.
|
yes, that was it. I could hardly recognize myself, my eyes looked differently, my expression was different & I even moved differently & I certainly felt differently. I felt like I was someone else! or maybe it was my "true self"? :S
Try it, I recommend it! :D Even if it is that loincloth & some adornments, seashells, braids & basic facepaint... just see what you feel like? for the sake of "getting some samples"? :P |
:D Nice! It's amazing to hear how different you felt..It's really inspiring. :)
As for me..Well maybe I will soon but I have a few more cosplays to do first. Soon I will be going as a purple Star Wars alien hehe. So maybe I'll get into character. |

I didn't have a chance to do it this year, but last year, I loved doing it... I walked a decent distance to the venue, and everyone was looking... quite possible because it was very cold out and I was clearly wearing no tshirt and only shorts :P, but a lot of people recognised me as a Na'vi :) |
Quote:
you must be very brave - or hardy - to walk in the cold weather with shorts on only! Here, an idea for cosplaying as a "not exactly human altho not a full native Na'vi either": a Siberian shaman: And Pa'li, it would be great to see your pics!:awesome: PS: I've just posted my Na'vi face here on Halloween costumes. |
Oooh now that Siberian Shaman page looks impressive! Reminds me of what we see of old Saxons. ;)
I'd only do a Na'vi cosplay in summer, probably at night near a bonfire. If you did it in winter goosebumps might ruin the paint. |
I had an interesting dream this morning, but a bit short..I've been thinking about it all day.
In it I was above the hammock branches in Kelutral at night and Neytiri bent down over the edge to show me a huge pale blue petal of a large flower plant that grew amongst the branches. It was amazing..Just made me imagine all this new plant life in Pandora. :) Dreams really help to keep the feeling alive, especially if it is unexpected. |
Sounds nice :)
Recently my dreams have been less detailed on places, although I sometimes think people were in them, and this morning I had a meetup dream :) |
Meetup dreams sound the best. :D I wonder what happened in yours. Moco seems to have tonnes of meetup dreams.
It's hard sometimes to know who is who in dreams. I suppose you'd have to look for defining features in the dream or think about what person you were around the day before. Either way, dreams are the best, particularly Avatar dreams. ;) |
Quote:
For example Don Juan in this dream on Dreams (general) looked just normal: very light color clothes, faded blue I think, almost white. A shirt with long sleeves & jeans; he looked like a typical NA, with very black shoulder-length hair & very, very black piercing eyes. That was the only, let's say, special thing about his appearance. that impressed me. Anyway, I never met him in person (pity!), but somehow I simply knew it was him, & I was happy to have "the man of knowledge" in our ToS Clan. Oh, and Theorist posted a dream about HNM who looked ... unrecognizable :P - but somehow it was clear in the dream that it was him. Quote:
Avatar music, & music inspired by Avatar, is yet another way to keep the feeling alive :awesome: Ah, I wanted to mention it a while ago: I've just looked at the phone on my desk, it's brand is AVAYA - but the font is almost exactly like that of Avatar, every time I see it I have a "mini-jolt", like: "Oh my, it's Avatar!" I don't know how to explain it but surely you know what I mean! :) |
To keep my feeling alive, most Mondays when I get the day off, I'll go to the woods somewhere, and run around, climb trees, pray, meditate, hug trees, etc. The general hippie stuff except pot. It's usually what I look forward to each week, and those moments out in nature are what makes life worth it. Just wish I had someone to share it with.
|
It's kind of weird, but one thing that helps me is driving on long daytrips in any given direction :) Maybe because it makes me feel adventurous :P
|
I like driving a lot too, but gas is expensive, and it burns a lot. I especially like driving to work in sat/sunday morning when it's dark and the sun peeks out during my drive. Nobody is one the highway, and I feel adventurous.

What a great thread, let's get started *clasped hands*
Avatar, a tale that brings you the story of a man who has a second chance at life when his first was taken from him, takes us into his eyes and brings us the discovery of Pandora where almost anything seems to be possible. The experience we enjoyed at movie's end was something beyond what a movie is supposed to do, it was beyond a good time, it was an exposure of physical evidence that freedom is there and that it is indeed a world we can reach, we can live in. Freedom is something that is beyond a metaphysical sense, it is an achievement; an everlasting ecstasy. Like the feeling of looking at the face of love, in it's purest form; it never dies. Though our eyes cannot see Pandora outside of a captured film-roll, our minds go beyond. Pandora lives within us, within imagination, spirit, and even within community. Pandora is the embodiment of freedom, like Narnia and Middle Earth, except Pandora is the first world to truly embody this feeling by exposing us to our wild side. The true version of ourselves. Pandora reminds me of simpler times, where things make sense. When living in a hectic world.., where everything is confusing and abstract, I can't keep up with it all. Pandora is not an escape but rather a very lucid place for me. I have shaped the undiscovered places that no picture or film has every observed, I even have formed the oceans, and so much more! If my artistic talent was good enough, I would show it to you. Drawing it at my level of imaginary sketches would ruin that particular place all together. Pandora is the workbench of my imagination, where everything comes together and it's where they run wild. Whenever I try to think of Pandora by itself, it takes me to a special place. It's where nothing can touch, hold, or worry me. I sit at a park bench, under a tree, along a ruined cobblestone road heading off in a horizontal direction. This place overlooks a water horizon with a pond and a rolling hill in between me and the ocean horizon. When I think of Pandora, this place is transformed. The park bench is now a patch of grass, the tree is from the forests of the planet with bio-luminescent plants growing from it's roots and on the bark. The horizontal cobblestone road is now just a weathered path, cutting through the bordering wild forests growing from my left and right. The pond is now bigger and has life, the pond glows with swimming fish. The water dilutes their colors so it shines all over the place. Their are floating orbs in the air, sparkling orbs with a bloom of so many colors floating in random directions, but mostly keeping over the pond. The ocean horizon is now a view on top of a mountain top, a floating mountain, overlooking the rest of the wild forests below all that spans as far as the eyes can see, with a mountain range of earthbound peaks slowly emerging from the leftern horizon.I'm taken to this place after I've achieved serenity, where even if my body hit the floor while I was sitting down, I wouldn't wake up (or at least not immediately, that's why they call it a 'kick'). Whenever I go to this place, on very rare occasions, my consciousness forms into the body of Neytiri, sitting on my patch of grass underneath the tree. I know who she is and she doesn't hide it. I suppose it's just my brain talking with me, saying 'What's up! You need to use me more.' I take that feeling that I had from the movie theatre by looking outside for a good 10+ minutes, without a thought going through my mind. When I'm comfortably numb of thought and worry, I draw things that come from Pandora. They look like crap, but their new styles of vegetation I'm inventing, but I can imagine still. I didn't always do this, I thought of Pandora when I looked into the eyes of someone I once thought was my soul mate. But that was some time ago, and Id rather not talk about it. When I feel like superman, I do all sorts of crazy crap. I tried to scale my apartment once, I got to the 3rd floor and had to stop. I went through someone elses apartment to get out, "Excuse me *walk through the room and to the door*." Words are not my strongest asset, so if any of this is confusing to you, than it shall be confusing. |

You know I get that feeling for adventure too on long trips. That's one of the main feelings I got while watching avatar: A sense for adventure. ;) How about putting on Steppenwolf: Born to be wild on your next trip. :D Quote:
Apollo: Why I'm glad that you enjoy this thread. I put it up here so any wanderers could seek answers or inspiration from each other. Your descriptions of the Pandora in your mind is really something..It's certainly a gift to imagine that well. You've inspired me to become more creative..I've had a huge writer's/artist's block for the last month. I wonder if Neytiri forms your inner voice Apollo? |

@Apollo: it's beautiful, this "imaginary sketching". I sometimes squint my eyes & imagine a bioluminiscent glow over everything, especially in twilight, but you're taking it to "the whole new level". Cool :awesome:
(Altho I do remember Don Juan (who really came back with the vengeance after Avatar) talking about "the lines of the world, the power of plants & animals, the light about every living being..." - what was he talking about? He could see the "glow of power" right here on Earth, and I want to "see thru his eyes", too! I am sure it's the matter of training, I just need to find a very good tsahik to teach me ) Thanks again for this thread Pa'li - it's so great to share & to see other people's ways of "Keeping the feeling alive". I've been really low in this department for quite some time now... it's helps. Irayo ma tsmuke. |
Quote:
True. I'm glad you brought it up. It's so important. :) Quote:
I think you can have a sense for adventure building up if you imagine animal and nature sounds in some place you want to go. For example I really want to go back to the seaside and I can hear gulls cawing and waves crashing against rocks. :) |
Well Pa'li, I don't know about horseback :P I want to go faaaaast :D
|
:D How about hitching a ride on a few Ostridge? Hehe.
|
me, horses. Or direhorses :P
|
Ah Apache. I had no idea you were such a horse person. ;)
