Pandora Could Be Real

An article about the possibilities of life on moons around gas giants:

Quote:

New research indicates that life-bearing moons, such as those featured in Hollywood blockbusters, might be possible. If astronomers discover such a moon nearby, the James Webb Telescope may be able to study its atmospheres and detect key gases like carbon dioxide, oxygen and water vapor.

"like in Hollywood blockbusters", I like this polite reference.

A little old news, but still interesting.

Of course, this multiples the galaxy's potential number of sentient species by orders of magnitude :)

then take a look at this, this comes when CNN UK talks with Lisa Kaltenegger:

I really believe Pandora Exists!!

Scientists have for years been stating that: "We cannot be the only beings in this Universe!!" It is therefore very feasable that Pandora and the Na'vi people are real!! Man, I for one cannot think of anything better than to be told that scientists, one of these days, will have indeed found: "Pandora" and the Na'vi people as depicted in the movie: "Avatar" as the real deal.

Upon saying that, we humans are to stay away from Pandora, after all we screw up everything we ever touch or interfere with!! It will have to be left only to extremely trusted investigators and explorers who shall be given permission to visit the Pandora Moon, and meet with it's inhabitants!!
We can only hope that the Na'vi would be willing to meet and listen with our learned travellers??:)

I think there should be an interview process after first contact. An agreed-upon psychoanalytical method that both we and the alien species (perhaps the Na'vi) are comfortable with should be applied to scientists and others wanting to get away from Earth, which is slowly being ruined by the human population. Those who pass and have no malformed intentions may go.

What do you think?

Human No More 11-14-2011 05:53 PM

I think it's unlikely for the Na'vi or Pandora to actually be found even if a habitable world is.
Also, first contact should be used for mutual benefit of both species - getting help to fix Earth and humanity, and helping them if necessary in return.

True; the Na'vi are but one example of what might be possible. Though I can't imagine that there could be a species more respectable than them.

I completely agree. For example, if we were to meet a Na'vi-like species, we could offer them medicines and technologies in return for help in purifying earth.

What makes you think aliens would have any better idea than we do?

dstroudswan 11-24-2011 03:37 PM

Because it would be arrogant to think that we, the human species, have perfect ideas. There are always newer, fresher ways of looking at things, and perhaps an alien race could teach us new ways of solving problems that we haven't thought of.

Human No More 11-24-2011 04:26 PM

Even first contact itself would be a redefining moment for humanity, because it would shake that complacency that many people possess that humans are anything at all special or important, and let them realise that humans are one of many sentient species and have to act accordingly.

dstroudswan 11-24-2011 05:24 PM

I definitely agree; people have a sense of entitlement that's unhealthy. First contact might dispel some of that and open the eyes of humanity to the fact that we're not the only species alive.

Clarke 11-24-2011 05:26 PM

Personally, I get the impression that most of humanity isn't that rational.
