Speakers

So I have been wanting to get a good computer set up going for quite a while now as I spend a decent amount of time there :D and figure I will start working on sound. I am thinking a 2.1 system but I want a good amount of bass while still retaining good mids and highs for other types of music, these speakers need to be versatile LOL.

I really want a desktop and want to get rid of my laptop but atm that seems like to much trouble :D any suggestions for helping build up a good setup will be greatly appreciated, I am not very knowledgeable in this area haha!

Edit: So far I have looked into logitech z-2300, Logitech Z-4, some Altec, Creative, and Klipsch. Thoughts on these? Others to check out?

I have this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16836121122
and it's excellent. I recommend.

Gunny 03-23-2010 02:33 AM

Thats one of the ones I have been looking at :D

How is the bass? And would you say it is more of a gaming/movie speakers or more of a music set of speakers?

Iceri 03-23-2010 02:37 AM

The bass is great, I keep my bass knob at around 70% and it's plenty. At 100% it rocks my entire apartment haha, the walls shake and my desk rattles.

I use it for music/movies mostly, but for gaming it's just as good. The speakers come with a cord that can connect to your console cables.

Gunny 03-23-2010 02:46 AM

Sweet! I may just go after those! Great sound for a good price! :D

Leonopteryx 03-23-2010 02:58 AM

i have a full stereo setup at my computer desk. 4x shelve speakers, 2x 8in subs. better than any prepacked system you can get :D.

Gunny 03-23-2010 03:01 AM

That sounds amazing!!! Got pictures?

Leonopteryx 03-23-2010 03:03 AM

ahaha, no. you wouldn't see everything anyways, the speakers are hidden. the subs are on the back of the desk, you wouldn't see much, I'm KINDA a neat freak.

Stanley_9875 03-23-2010 06:21 AM

I use my DJ speakers... Yea those are loud!

Gunny 03-23-2010 06:46 AM

What speakers are those stanely? Lol oh and on a side note you should have seen the sad excuse for a rave I went to earlier! The dj sucked rotfl :D

Helicoradian 03-23-2010 06:53 AM

I'm running Klipsch Promedia 2.1's and they are by far the best 2.1 computer setup I have used, waaaayyyy better than the creative and logitech systems that I had in the past. Although it's a decent setup if you really want the best get yourself a good pair of bookshelf speakers, powered sub, and receiver.

Iceri 03-23-2010 06:53 AM

Last rave I went to was at this dance studio with a huge open room and was PACKED. On every side of me, with maybe 3 inches between everyone, sweaty e-tards dancing and waving their glowsticks in the air :P

Gunny 03-23-2010 07:06 AM

Heli, how would you describe the quality of the klipsch? I was interested in these after hearing my uncles theater speakers! Idk if I have the budget to go down the shelved speaker route though unless I've seen the wrong stuff haha!

Yeah this "rave" was a something a college group sent out things for, I decided to check it out and it was pretty much just a semi big room with dim lighting and the dj just sitting there playing pop songs. Needless to say I didn't stay long lmao!

I use these:

Terratec - Home Arena

EPIC wooden sound, but I think they are no longer manufactured...

Also, my setup:

(you can see 1 speaker below the monitor, 2 are left and right (can't rly be seen) and 2 are behind the camera)

Iceri 03-23-2010 07:11 AM

Klipsch is generally very high quality in my experience. I had some before my Logitech system. I bought the Z2300 because it was cheaper, and I'm not disappointed.

Edit: Is that Fruity Loops I see? ^^^^ :D

I currently use Reason 4 but am considering Cubase.

As far as sq goes very good, bass is controlled and not sloppy or boomy. The mids are plenty loud as are the highs. The build quality is fantastic, one satellite alone weighs the same as the sub on a lot of the cheaper systems. They don't compare to a high quality 2.0 or 2.1 system with a separate receiver but they do good for pc speakers.

Gunny 03-23-2010 07:38 AM

How much would some shelf speakers and bass run? I figure expensive but im interested for fun lol

Vauktu 03-23-2010 07:45 AM

I suggest checking out Cnet.com and Amazon.com. Both sites have a very large collection of items as well as reviews, so the two sites are good sources if you're looking for something specific.

Here is Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=amb_link...rd_i=667846011
(Cheap prices (~$50.00). Mostly 3.1+ sets, though there are 2.1 sets as well)

Here is Cnet.com:
http://reviews.cnet.com/home-theater...edRating7+desc
(Prices aren't cheap. You may need to read through a few pages to find an affordable set. Mostly 3.1+ sets.)

I'm actually on the look for speakers right now as well (in preparation for Avatar on blu-ray), so if I find anything worth mentioning, I'll definitely tell you.

Been a while since I've looked but:

receiver - $150
bookshelf's - $150 to 200
sub (optional)- $200

That would be just for something basic. You could save some $ and maybe get better sound if you built some shelf speakers yourself.

Gunny 03-23-2010 07:51 AM

Thanks for the links! And yes do tell if you come across something good :D

Gunny 03-23-2010 11:21 PM

Alright I've brought it to either the logitech or the klipsch. Anyone have any other suggestions?

oh jeez face palm haha pop songs? Dim lighting? Man the raves that I love to go to I'm entranced by powerful strobe lights, lasers, and numerous other lighting effects moving along to the beats of incredible trance/rave/electronic/techno music. Come to my rave and I'll sit you down and give you a light show with my rave gloves haha and yea I'll post pictures of my setup and explain in more detail later in on my iTouch haha way easier on my laptop

Noticed the M-Audio AV40's in the link and have heard very good things about them, might be worth consideration.

Apollo 03-24-2010 09:50 AM

I feel very left out now, what's a Rave? lmao. I hear about it all the time, but no ever goes into detail.

Stanley_9875 03-25-2010 05:03 AM

Rave - Wikipedia basically this. For me it's such an amazing time... Feeling he music pulse within my bloodstream, the strobes, lasers, and other light effects filling the atmosphere with incredible shows, and the community :D
