Cameron is being sued or Avatar!

Check out the story here

This is unbelievable. I find it weird that this guy was so furious about the 09 theatrical premiere but then he seems to have not done anything between the time he supposedly contacted Cameron's people.

My first thought when reading the headline: "Again"?

My second thought: This man was so mad he sat around for 2 years and then sued. He was just that mad. I mean if someone had stolen the idea for the most successful movie of all time from me, that's what I'd do. I'd wait two years and then sue.

Clarke 12-10-2011 01:22 AM

I assume that professional trolling is more complicated than the article explains. IP law does have lots of intricacies.

Cyvaris 12-10-2011 02:29 AM

Doesn't the statue of limitations come in to play on this? Two years really?

Also does this mean I can sue George Lucas for "stealing" ideas like the Hero's Journey or stuff from Kirasowa?

Clarke 12-10-2011 02:45 AM

Only if you shot first, which you probably didn't. :awesome:

Human No More 12-10-2011 03:09 AM

AFK trolling.

There have already been various people who have tried, ranging from people with unpublished books to someone who actually made a rip off film (massive box office bomb, barely got any coverage) after hearing Avatar's plot details.

Clarke 12-10-2011 03:12 AM

There was the one involving the author who was suing for Cameron ripping off his published book, but I don't know what became of that.

So this?

I found it some time last year and literally spent a good ten minutes laughing.

I'm still laughing at the guy trying to sue him... I wish him luck.. No not really..

JUPITER?? Really, WTF.

Clarke 12-11-2011 12:10 AM

Meh, why not? It's only slightly more ridiculous than life anywhere else.

Crickett 12-11-2011 12:43 AM

Maybe this is just me, but I'm a little surprised that The Onion never did an article about James Cameron being sued individually by everyone in the whole world over stealing the idea for Avatar. I would have liked to see that.

At least its not a moon around blue Jupiter eh?

You have to admit the similarities are damn shocking.

Also if anything I would sue Cameron for making a family member commit suicide out of depression for not being able to go to Pandora....to far?

Moco Loco 12-11-2011 04:01 AM

Jupiter is not similar to Pandora in ANY ****ing way :xD: Though, that can't be what you meant.

Remember this?

Taiwanese Man Dies After Watching 'Avatar'

Edit: Apparently this is #8. Author Poul Anderson allegedly threatened to but never followed through.

The guy with the heart condition who could have died anywhere?

I misread that as the "blue moon around Jupiter." There is life on Europa! :awesome:

"born into the body of an enormous creature that looked like a cross between a manta ray and a dolphin"

hahahaha, dang that sounds exactly like an Avatar based off the Na'vi...or not

bet that book sucks so much!

It came out in 03 by the way and was penned by Timothy Zahn one of the most respected sci-fi authors of the current age.

Hello, I'm a Timothy Zahn fan....basically, run.

My first thought.

However, my second thought was, he tried to sue Cameron over Avatar, so screw him.

Firstly stop getting my pop culture references!

Secondly I don't know if it was Zahn sueing, I was just pointing out the absurdity of how similar that book is. I read it awhile ago just because I was interested, and its actually pretty good. Its similar to Avatar, but different in some significant ways. Sadly I felt it handled its characters much better, and well actually made me sort of care about the protagonist, not something I can say about Jake.

Never heard of any of his books and only vaguely of him. If you're a fan... perhaps you're overstating it :P

Attempts to hold back the legions of Star Wars fans...takes a lightsaber to the chest.

Jachyra 12-20-2011 02:51 PM

Another day, another lawsuit, this time for 2.5B (!!)

This is getting old fast.

Edit: now it's 3 lawsuits in the last 10 days alone. Here's an article with a chart comparing the lawsuits. Also, the story of a certain "Kelly Van" who now wishes she hadn't sued...

Sheesh!

Clarke 12-20-2011 03:39 PM

In light of all the "Pochontas dances with wolves IN SPACE" jokes, I'm vaguely amused.

Also,

I assume someone misheard mis-en-scéne. :xD:

Cyvaris 12-20-2011 07:31 PM

I am the only one who has noticed the typo in the thread title?

I just saw it and now its bothering me.

James Cameron right now

Clarke 12-20-2011 09:34 PM

Course he doesn't, he has an army of lawyers deal with it for him, and I bet they're having a field day.

I pictured JC blowing a little whistle and releasing a pack of angry lawyers at whoever this guy is :xD:
(the article link is dead now)

I'm still waiting for an Onion article about everyone in the world suing James Cameron for stealing Avatar from them.

If he gets a sixth, does he get the next lawsuit free? And I'm still waiting for that Onion article claiming Cameron is being sued by everyone in the world.

"befriends a number of indigenous creatures and partners with a community of butterflies."

um, lol.

Layzie 01-30-2012 04:41 AM

Nothing about it is suprising. He's probably been sued a bunch of times over Avatar-related issues. And people ALWAYS sue famous people a long time after the time of the "apparent" incident.

Cyvaris 01-31-2012 01:07 PM

Sigh....at least stupid people do one thing productive for humanity...they give us something to laugh about.
