This is unbelievable. I find it weird that this guy was so furious about the 09 theatrical premiere but then he seems to have not done anything between the time he supposedly contacted Cameron's people.

My first thought when reading the headline: "Again"?

My second thought: This man was so mad he sat around for 2 years and then sued. He was just that mad. I mean if someone had stolen the idea for the most successful movie of all time from me, that's what I'd do. I'd wait two years and then sue.

I assume that professional trolling is more complicated than the article explains. IP law does have lots of intricacies.

Doesn't the statue of limitations come in to play on this? Two years really?

Also does this mean I can sue George Lucas for "stealing" ideas like the Hero's Journey or stuff from Kirasowa?

There have already been various people who have tried, ranging from people with unpublished books to someone who actually made a rip off film (massive box office bomb, barely got any coverage) after hearing Avatar's plot details.

There was the one involving the author who was suing for Cameron ripping off his published book, but I don't know what became of that.

Maybe this is just me, but I'm a little surprised that The Onion never did an article about James Cameron being sued individually by everyone in the whole world over stealing the idea for Avatar. I would have liked to see that.

It came out in 03 by the way and was penned by Timothy Zahn one of the most respected sci-fi authors of the current age.

Secondly I don't know if it was Zahn sueing, I was just pointing out the absurdity of how similar that book is. I read it awhile ago just because I was interested, and its actually pretty good. Its similar to Avatar, but different in some significant ways. Sadly I felt it handled its characters much better, and well actually made me sort of care about the protagonist, not something I can say about Jake.

Now I'm imagining Cameron's army of lawyers entering a courtroom to that music. :cool:

I could be wrong, but I believe this makes Cameron's fifth Avatar related lawsuit from entirely unrelated parties.

If he gets a sixth, does he get the next lawsuit free? And I'm still waiting for that Onion article claiming Cameron is being sued by everyone in the world.

Nothing about it is suprising. He's probably been sued a bunch of times over Avatar-related issues. And people ALWAYS sue famous people a long time after the time of the "apparent" incident.

Sigh....at least stupid people do one thing productive for humanity...they give us something to laugh about.
