Hugo, journey into magical fantasy, and synchronicties, when dreams were still believeable and possible at the turn of the 1900's. Its just that kind of uplifting story, where the little girl (or boy) in all of us, can still find hope.

Maybe its because, though i'm not that old, but somehow i could connect to the early years of cinemetic film making, and the magic of stage building, and silent movies, before it all became commercialized, digitalized, super enhanced. Where someone with imagination, and creativity, could play out their dreams on stages and screens, and share that joy and magic with the world, and it wasn't about how much money, resources, education, you had. You just had to dream!

"Hugo Cabret: I'd imagine the whole world was one big machine. Machines never come with any extra parts, you know. They always come with the exact amount they need. So I figured if the entire world was one big machine, I couldn't be an extra part. I had to be here for some reason. And that means you have to be here for some reason too." Despite it's machine and mechanical reference .. this still in its concept an amazingly powerful quote

Early on, it's obvious that the film is less about the mechanical man and more about the way broken people sometimes need other people to fix them, how we can all play some part in the lives of others, sometimes without meaning to. …

Honestly, the most epic Christmas movie I've seen thus far. I especially loved the ghost on the train, often referred to as a hobo. :P

"One other thing... do you believe in ghosts?"
*shakes head*
"...interesting."

By the way - do any of you know the movie "Cargo" from 2009 I think. Its a swiss SciFi movie and I kind of liked it despite it haveing some logic holes. The english translation is a bit bad though. Its about a time when people have been forced off Earth because it has become too toxic and people live in space on space stations and in crappy cargo ships. Poor people are driven into jobs that suck by the wish of becoming colonizers of a newly discoverd Earthlike planet called Rhea where there are still trees and greens and animals, but only the rich or lucky ones can afford it, so everyone works his arse off to get there. The background story is cool, the effects are okay, there are some plotholes or weird/unlogical character actions and the film draws out a bit, it is not very action laden. Typical Euro-movie at that :P - still worth watching and related to this topic.

I watched this recently, and it's a bad movie with a good moral message. Clearly the writers of this flick had no idea how to tell a good story, so the whole thing is kind of one big mess. This movie could be quite good if revised somewhat, but as it stands it's not well thought out. Always sad to see wasted potential, but at least the drop in quality wasn't as steep as it was with Sunshine, because this movie never really gets any good, but rather stays sort of the same all the way, and it feels draggy.

Over the past 48 hours

The Polar Express
Stargate: Continuum
Stargate: The Ark of Truth
The Blues Brothers
Commando
HALO Legends
and of course
Conan the Barbarian

All of these are going off of my Netflix Watch Instantly except for Polar Express which I have on DVD.

I also finished watching Supercop and began watching March of the Penguins.

Same reason why.
