A Quiet Place.
Great movie. I went to see it cuz I saw some sign language in the trailer and got interested since I am deaf and use sign language myself. I got the closed captioning device for the theater but little did I know I would not need it. It was a fantastic movie made by John Kriniski and I highly recommend it. |

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindlewald in D-Box Ultra-AVX 3D (we had points saved up for free tickets so we went all out).
The film is quite dark, both content wise and literally. Most scenes were so dimly projected that the 3D was hardly perceptible. There were a few scenes where the action is complimented by the D-box motion, but for the most part, you can skip D-box for this movie. D-Box is better for movies like Star Wars or Kingsmen. I found the film a bit confusing, often unsure as to whether they're in the muggle world or wizard world, as there are scenes with magical stuff happening and nobody seems to pay any attention to it, muggle or wizard. A very fast paced and hectic opening sequence means you'll miss a few things if you happen to glance down at your popcorn for a second (guilty). Any wizard family names that were mentioned in the Potter franchise are also referenced in this film, giving fleeting flashes of backstory to practically every family tree. There's A LOT happening in this movie, and Rowling's attention to every little detail is staggering. It's definitely a movie that you'll have to watch several times to catch everything. I know I'll have to watch it again as soon as it is out on Blu-Ray with the Closed Captions on because I couldn't understand a single word that Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) mumbled throughout the entire film. His British accent combined with his mumbly dialogue delivery made every word out of his mouth completely unintelligible to me. Potter fans were upset with Johnny Depp being cast as Grindlewald, but he's barely recognizable as Depp, and definitely playing things dark and serious, with absolutely no hint of Jack Sparrow, which is what I think the fans were concerned with. All in all, there is so much going on in this film that if you're not a die hard Potter fan, you'll find things quite confusing at times, and even the fans will be surprised at some of the twists. JK Rowling was right when she said that by the end of this film you won't know half of what you thought you knew. |

To put this into content. The Equalizer 2 had a release date of July 20th. It will be on DVD December 11th. Venom had a release date of October 5th. As I said, it's still in theaters. It will be out on DVD December 18th. |
phantom of the paradise
very good movie, would watch again |
Ralph Breaks The Internet
Great to see Ralph and Venelope again, but I didn't find this one as funny as Wreck It Ralph, which is one of my favourite movies. I guess I just related to the first film more, as I grew up in the '80's playing all of those "retro" games. This new movie obviously focuses on the internet, and plays on things like memes, click bait and "heart-ing" things, which would appeal more to today's generation. There's a few good laughs, and a surprising plot twist that doesn't seem to fit the character, but didn't quite have the heart of the first film. But DEFINITELY make sure you stay right until the very end of the closing credits.:P |
The Thirteenth Floor (1999) on dvd

Aquaman, with my nephew at Christmas. really well done, Atlantis and the vehicles were great, water was amazing, i know JC is looking at this for comparison.

tl;dr I liked both movies. I better have, I signed up to AMC A-list, so I'm going to be watching them a combined three times a week every week until they leave theaters or until Shazam is released. Unfortunately, Alita: Battle Angel is a great example of why I am going to avoid any spoiler material regarding Avatar 2 including the plot details recently revealed by James Cameron. There's one particular character who dies in a fairly heartbreaking manner late in the movie. And I'm sure that scene would have gotten to me on an emotional level had I not seen the source material. But I did, so instead I saw it coming from the moment I saw the first trailer. Some of the fight scenes (particularly certain fight moves) reminded me of Avatar enough that after I got home I checked whether Alita and Avatar had the same fight choreographer, which they apparently do not. I've heard criticism that Alita is a Mary Sue and that no one in the movie actually provides a challenge, and I don't agree with that in the slightest. Some of the dialogue between the main character and the main male love interest is rather cringe-y, but they're supposed to be teenagers, so that's not out of the ordinary. As far as How to Train Your Dragon 3, warning, spoilers in small black text: The dragons don't all die. I was afraid going into the movie that they were going to all die and it didn't happen I didn't enjoy it as much as the first two How to Train Your Dragon movies, but I would chalk that up to having a lesser soundtrack compared to the first two (although I said that about HTTYD 2 at first and I eventually came around to love it) and not having what I guess I'll call extended epic flight scenes like the first two did for most of the movie. But it's still a How To Train Your Dragon movie, so it still does have some amazing flight scenes and a decent soundtrack and of course it's still definitely worth watching. But the most common albums I listen to are the Avatar soundtrack, the Pandora: the World of Avatar soundtrack and the soundtracks to HTTYD 1 & 2 and the third one will likely not be joining them. Two things I appreciated about HTTYD 3 were A. They did a call back to the Gift of the Night Fury holiday special. Other franchises may claim holiday specials are canon, but how many times do you actually see the referenced in actual sequels? B. One of the main criticisms I saw of How To Train Your Dragon 2 was that a some of the characters from the first movie such as Snotlout, Fishlegs, Ruffnut and Tuffnut were shifted into the background in favor of a focus on Hiccup, Stoic, Astrid and Valka. I felt like they took that criticism to heart for the third movie as those characters do get at least some more screen time than before. |
Captain Marvel (2019) in both 2D and Real-3D formats, going again to see her in IMAX.
CM is nearing $600mil in 7 days of release, $180mil USA and $320mil international markets, now playing in 38 countries, Japan opened yesterday 3/15. |
I recently saw How to Train Your Dragon 3 again. My opinion has changed regarding the flying scene (or allegedly lack of) although I'm still not the huge fan of the soundtrack that I was of the first two films. I also double featured that with Captain Marvel. A lot of the criticisms of that movie were..... complete and utter BS. Aside from the eye thing. That was dumb imo.

i agree, and i no longer watch most of the youtube channels because they have become haters and toxic trollgrounds, so much hatred. disgusting. i have seen Cap Marvel three times now, and the film is great 9/10, just a few technical quibbles but i enjoy the film immensely. i admit the eye thing is kind of anticlimatic after 10 years of wondering, but i can live with the explanation tbh because the movie adds another great superhero and more connections between all the films. |
Us
i really really liked this movie personally and i highly recommend seeing it at least once |
