According to CBC News, 12 extra minutes worth of film will be added to the film’s original theatrical release.

The article also reports that these bonus scenes could possibly feature a Na’vi-style party and further scenes of Jake’s (Sam Worthington) training in order to be officially welcomed into the village.

Oh, I really hope the IMAX in my country will release it. It would be awesome. Although this means that the release of the extended version of the movie on dvd will be postponed.

When I heard about this, a little bit of wee came out. :D

But seriously, this is the most epic news I have heard all week.

One of the main reasons Avatar is looking to be re-released is because the film was removed from all IMAX theaters upon the release of Tim Burton’s long-awaited Alice in Wonderland.
Well, I suppose it's a good thing that AiW came along at the time it did, otherwise the re-release would be a lot less likely. :)

Sacred Tsahaylu 03-15-2010 01:59 AM

It's the only good that came from Alice in LSDland

Davy Jones 03-15-2010 08:59 AM

What first was a curse, became a blessing :D

Human No More 03-15-2010 01:16 PM

Even if we will probably have to wait longer for the full DVD release, I still want to be able to see it in IMAX again :)

Fosus 03-15-2010 07:17 PM

Wootf!

*Starts saving some money for it*

Jacob 03-16-2010 06:11 AM

I didn't get to see Avatar in IMAX the first time around, so I'd love the opportunity to do so in the future.

This is great news, I can't wait to see the extended scenes. I wonder if this will affect the Blu-Ray release date, I hope not, can't wait too see Pandora and Neytiri in HD!

I seriously doubt it that it will have any effect :)

Pa'li Makto 03-17-2010 09:54 AM

I'm going to the IMAX this time round.
How awesome though, another opportunity to see Avatar in all it's glory
while supporting Cameron.
Should help to fuel the fire that burns through us.
I'm hungry for more Avatar

TorukMakto 03-19-2010 12:45 AM

Thank you Alice for giving us: Avatar Extended Edition 3D in IMAX so I can watch it another 5 times...hehehe

spicyapple 03-19-2010 01:18 AM

This is great news, although to my credit not surprising. I mentioned on AF that it was my hope Avatar will be re-released in the fall with additional footage. I could sense there would be demand for a second release. The movie's just too good for one run.

IkranTswonya 03-19-2010 01:20 AM

My wife and I went (again) last weekend, taking along two people who hadn't seen it yet. Gotta spread the word. :P

The theatre was about 75% full - not bad for a film that's been out for three months! Lots of movies have come and gone in that time but Avatar's still packing the house. I can see why a re-release would be alluring.

Especially one with 10 minutes of extra footage. :)

That's just it, the crowds aren't dropping away like it does with most movies, a re-release with extra footage will probably draw the crowd who want to see the extra footage plus the crowd who just want to experience it in 3D again. Who knows where the total Gross for Avatar will end up, could see 4 Billion, let alone 3 billion world wide.
