Ah noez, bad smudge tool! lol. No, seriously, for shading (shadow/light) and blending colors, try to use the brush tool and pick up the colors which were created by laying 2 colors over each other... if you understand, what I mean ._.

Or use the mixer brush, but try to avoid using the smudge tool for blending. It's cool for special effects for example creating flames or for creating fur, but not for standard blending.

I mean... this is just an advice, because I think that the use smudge tool doesn't look very clean and pretty and using it from the beginning on for everything might avoid that you "learn how to blend properly digitally". + that's something many other digital artists used to tell me when I used smudge/burn/dodge tools too often/for everything at the beginning, too.

Of course you can and should use it if you really, really want to, but yeah.

:x

I know, hehe, there was a time when I started to work with PS and other digital tools, too, so I totally know what you mean ;) I just wanted to help you to avoid adopting techniques which could lead to some kind of ... regretting it that you've adopted them. If you get what I mean ^^

Good sketch so far, I'm looking forward to see more from you, to me it's very exciting watching someone exploring digital painting :)

Roberto47 02-26-2012 12:48 AM

yeah thats alot better!
Dont know if you are but be sure to use layers, that way you can undo or change things easily.

Eana Unil 02-26-2012 03:20 AM

That looks indeed a whole lot better :D Seysonėltsan :)

Roberto47 02-26-2012 08:52 AM

Thanks a lot guys :D I have been using quite some time on this piece. And yes, i'm using layers. Learnd it on the tutorial on Corel Painter :P wich followed the wacom. This is ingenious!! There are so much cool stuff you can doo, wich you cant with a pencil and paper :D

Pa'li Makto 02-27-2012 01:06 AM

Looks great! Glad to see that you are enjoying using your tablet.

Hm, this "smudge tool issue" still bothered me, so I have to "correct" something. Using the smudge tool with standard settings is indeed "bad". Looks crappy and stuff, like I said. But. With certain brush settings the use of smudge tool can be helpful and good looking, if not used too much.

Just to give some more advice, if needed/wanted... ^^'

All advices are wanted, and this one is good as well :) Thank you, Eana :)

But at the time i have just been using Corel Painter Essentials. Tho Photoshop Elements and ArtRage 3 Studio Pro also was included with the wacom-pack i just bought. Haven't had the time to explore the others properly yet :)
