Love this site :)

37+ Signs that you're addicted to Avatar

Sight Unseen 01-28-2012 07:49 AM

Awesome article, I lol'd when I realized that twenty six of those are true of me.

neytirifanboy 01-28-2012 11:04 AM

Can we add some of our own.

When you turn down a date with Neytiri because you prefer to watch Avatar alone.

Crickett 01-28-2012 07:49 PM

Only four of the ones on that list apply to me. :(

txim_asawl 01-28-2012 07:57 PM

How about this one:
"When you walk around barefoot everywhere like the Na'vi do, to be in touch with your personal Eywa more than the Sky People do..."

just posted this in the comments section on the article's page... ;)

Wiggling bare toes,

Human No More 01-28-2012 08:31 PM

...when you have an Avatar tattoo and forum :D

Also, of the OP, 26 of them.

2 and 20, I already did before Avatar so didn't count those. Also not counting 33, but I would be if it wasn't for the fact that I actually know.

Moco Loco 01-29-2012 03:47 AM

I've got 25 :)

Don't really understand #31, lol'd at #39.

Txonä Rolyu 01-30-2012 05:17 AM

Oh yeah you can add more, just comment on the post :)

-Txonä Rolyu

neytirifanboy 01-30-2012 01:05 PM

You chop off one of your fingers so you can be the same as the Na'vi.

Sìkat 01-30-2012 05:06 PM

...you very badly want to purchase a (much) larger TV, preferably 3-D ready, after having seen the film on Blu-Ray :)

mikkowilson 01-30-2012 07:15 PM

1,2,3,5+,6,12+,13,14,15,16...,NOT 18 (No one says "Scown", c'mon man..),20,21 (sort of, I mean, who hasn't bought it?),22 x2,24,25,NOT 30 (it's similar to others, but original),31,33,36,37 (when was this list posted? no date on the page),40,43,44+,45...

Interesting list, but kinda meh at the same time. Missed on a couple of key things (upper-case S on "See" for example...), but all good fun. :)

- Mikko

neytirifanboy 01-30-2012 09:07 PM

You cry out Neytiri's/Jake's/Trudy's/Tsu-Tey's/etc name when making love to your partner.

iron_jones 01-30-2012 09:52 PM

Number 12 is the only one that applies to me.

Txonä Rolyu 01-31-2012 08:38 AM

Oops, I meant click the link and comment on THAT post lolol my bad.

apache_blanca 01-31-2012 03:07 PM

2-4, 17, 20, 41 - done it / had it before seeing Avatar (e.g. I have a pony tail right now)
9 - drew blue spirals & curves with an eye pencil
12 - I also hiss at animals, my comp, & I hiss (at least mentally) any time I feel the cause is worth hissing at
18 - I said "skxawng" (not scown)
21, 30, 37, 47 - yeah
24 - Any sign of Avatar
36 - Hell Yeah!!
35 - got one as a B-Day present :awesome:
39 - would love to!
44 - nearly there

Tey'Kan 01-31-2012 07:49 PM

A few of those apply to me... more or less.

#2 - I already have a very long braided pony tail... but after seeing Avatar, I decided to let it get even longer.
#21 - I really like the soundtrack from the movie, and I also like listening to the re-mixes some people have done. Very creative stuff out there.
#26 - I don't carry my bow and arrows everywhere, but I am an avid bow hunter, I bagged a nice pronghorn antelope a year or so ago with my compound Kodiak. Most of the time, I just get lost in the mountains tho.
#46 - I have a (psudo) Na'vi name on this forum. I came up with the name by taking the last parts of Tsu-tey and Eytukan, hense ..."Tey'Kan".

And... my own proof that I am addicted to Avatar, I do alot of "repaints" for Flight Simulator and I have several aeroplanes painted in the blue Na'vi skin patterns, as well as paints on other models that make them look like ikrans. They are for my personal enjoyment. I think that some aeroplane types look as if they could have had a part in the movie.

Tey'Kan ;)

Alan 01-31-2012 08:15 PM

Well that was a fun read through. I think if you got just one out of that list, you're an Avatar fan through and through ;)

The one I think we all nod vigorously at is 36 - "Sometimes wish you could go back and time and watch the movie without knowing what it is about - again...and again..cause it's that awesome"

I added a few too for a bit of fun - hehehe :)

Alan

Moco Loco 02-01-2012 12:28 AM

Yeah, #36 is I think why I liked getting different people to go with me to see it.

Human No More 02-01-2012 04:24 AM

I really don't do 36, because I've got so much from Avatar than I never would have otherwise :) - I wouldn't want to lose that even for it again, and while Avatar has given me so much happiness, also so much pain.

I got...
3-7, 9, 12-16, 21-22, 24-25, 34, 35, 37, 40, 44-45, 47

Other points: 2 and 20 - no, I started LONG before Avatar :), 18 - no, I spell it correctly :P, and I know 33 outright. I want to do 38 but can't so far...

thinking over... I would actually agree. To see Avatar again for the first time (if it were possible) so that it hits you at 1000 miles per hour - that would be great. But to feel utterly lonely & desperate cos nobody in RL seems to understand "what the big deal about just a movie"? to feel that your life is "split" - everything that has to do with Avatar is a cause worth living for, whereas something that used to be your "normal life" seems to be lacking sense & purpose? to go on like this for months? until you discover the forums, eventually start calling people (that you had no idea existed, or what they looked like, or where they lived), 'aytsmukan si aytsmuke', & begin to really care for them, & then get all fired up for a meetup on the other side of the world cos you're dying to see your Avatar family 'for real' for the first time ever? Is it worth it?

It IS worth it, no doubt - only that, given the opportunity to see Avatar for the first time again I would like to have an option to discover the forums the Next day! :awesome: & to just dive in.

Love you family

PS Alan - great comments :D all of them but I especially liked the first one :)

Nìmwey 02-01-2012 11:41 PM

I can say yes to 21 (heck, don't everyone here actually HAVE it on the computer, not just YouTube?), 34, 37, and partly to...
12 (But not really. And I probably did that before Avatar.)
29 (Well... I got inspired in my creature-designing largely because of Avatar, but I'm not designing creatures for Pandora.)
30
38 (Hammock, yes... but only a couple of feet above grund, I'm afraid. ;))
44
46 (...maybe?)

Oel ngati kameie tsmukan HNM sì tsmuke Apache :)

I guess my perspective is that I didn't really get PAD as such, but it was like my life was suddenly turn 90 degrees and sent in a completely different direction that became an adventure of a lifetime for me. Would I like to experience that again - HELL YEAH! To live through all that discovery about myself and the wider world 'out there', forming new friendships that had a deeper meaning than I had experienced before and do things I had no idea I was ever capable of,...to live through that again, for me, would be amazing - just to know that it really happened and it was not a dream. It makes me so grateful for this experience.

How much this meant to me was brought home when I was accidently 'banned' for AF due to an Admin error. I found out in the morning before I had to go to work. I really felt my heart sink, like never before. It was a hard day to get through. When I go home I rushed to log in again to find out ma tsmukan, Prowler, had tried to find out what had happened. When normal service resumed, I knew how much this family meant to me. You really don't know how much things mean to you until they are taken away.

I may not have the highest count on the 'addiction scale', but I know my Avatar family matters so much to me....ooo....kinda poured out my heart a bit there :P...but somehow, I know you all know what I mean.

Eywa naghu,

Alan

That is pretty cool Tey'kan, I build and fly Experimental Aircraft, and am gettint ready to put the cloth skin on an HM 293 Flying Flea that I am building. It will be painted to look like Tsu'tey's Ikran, top sides, and bottom.

Eywa naghu,
Alan

oel ngati kameie - yes we do :) you really nailed it here ma tsmukan Alan. This reminded me of something I've been wanting to post for a while, so all right, here it is:

First, to know what I am going to go on about, have a look at this post:

http://www.tree-of-souls.com/general...tml#post140957

Some time ago my boss Dr.Grace Toruk Makto announced that our company is on sale, and, most probably, we'll have a new database - meaning, no more NAVI (NAVIsion - the current database). I felt bereaved! It was this, "sinking heart feeling", I know perfectly well what you meant Alan. What?! I shall not see a little square double-blue white-dotted icon with NAVI in caps under it? & shall not type again "in NAVI: (... data ...)" in whatever docs I usually put it?! Man, I felt cheated! I really felt sad about it - altho, come on, this database was in the company long before Avatar, & it's creators had no idea about the Na'vi, their complexion & white dots... But my reaction was like: "Oh sh**! We're screwed!"

In the end I spoke to the programmer guy - the only person I can talk Avatar about in the office; he is not in love with it like me but at least he liked the movie & he respects my feelings. I told him my "predicament". He said: "Wow, Goodness, I can't imagine what it must have been like for you when you came in! :xD: But don't worry: whatever the database, change or no, I'll keep this icon for you. It's a done deal :P" And goody, was it a relief! :D it might seem silly but this sort of situations make you realize just how much Avatar, and everything to do with it, means to you...

Eywa ngahu,

Niri Te 02-05-2012 04:51 PM

WOW, you have it BAD, girl. I guess that one of the reasons that Avatar struck so many different chords, on so many different levels, is that apart from BEING Trudy for years while being in the Army, and apart from FEELING at my core what Jake said about finding just one thing in his life WORTH dying for, being half Native American, I was raised with the understanding of "the wheel', and a reverence for the planet that feeds, clothes, shelters, and nurtures us.
Because of all that, it wasn't so much a "new" eye opening, Earth shattering revelation to me, as an extreme case of COMING HOME.
Here I found a number of people from all over the planet, many of whom are not Native by first birth, who have seen this story, taken it's message to heart, and because of their new found ability to NINGAY KAME the truth that was glossed over, and covered by corporate lies, and a learned from childhood greed, have, if they accepted the call to awakening, recieved a SECOND birth. Not to a Na'vi body, but to a Na'vi SPIRIT which will outlast the body.

aw irayo for caring for me :) Bad? ahh the bad thing I guess is not to have anybody in RL (real life) to talk forever about Avatar - but hey, I have the forum :) & when we meet in Seattle it will be Very real! :D About the database & its icon that I was so upset that I could lose it... I say, it's a bit silly - but it would be like losing a photo of a person that you love. It's Not a person, it's just a Photo - but since I look at it every day, & even wink at it sometimes, it's like a dear reminder. You and Ateyo are lucky, you're in love with Avatar - & with each other! it must be awesome :awesome: but hey, even nicknaming people after Avatar characters - like my superior is Dr.Grace (she is a Sicilian, I love her :P she loves to kick doors & corporate ass*s), the director is Selfridge & his deputy is Quaritch - makes me keep my tongue in the cheek & sort of brings Avatar into RL. Apart from many other things.

tell me more about "the wheel" - PM me, or maybe you feel like making a thread. I am sure many people will want to know about this concept. I am sure it's close to "the balance of all things" - that Eywa maintains on Pandora. My baboushka was not a native but had a very similar attitude: talking to trees & plants & animals & giving thanks to the forest for mushrooms & "sorry, I didn't mean to break this branch". I got it from her, & the Na'vi way seemed the rightest way - I was already prepared.

hey, for me it was pretty much the same!

we talked about this with Alan some time ago:

"You know sometimes I get the feeling that you can see the real person when you don't see them... So of because we can't see each other on these forum, how we look, what age we are, backgrounds etc, don't colour people's views of us and so the real us can shine through. ... this forum is a real meeting of souls! it's who we are matters. The real "I See You". Or, "when you see nothing - you'll see everything" (Neytiri's phrase from one of the eliminated scenes).

Niri Te 02-05-2012 10:59 PM

Let me compose a somewhat detailed explanation on my word program through this evening, and I will post it up for the public to see it sometime tomorrow morning ma tsmuke.

Niri Te

excellent :D I'll be waiting. Let me know by a PM / VM (visitor message), would you?

Niri Te 02-06-2012 04:43 PM

Ma Apache Blanca,
I tried to come up with some long, drawn out explanation of my beliefs on 'the wheel" and I just can't make something that is so simple, long and complex.
I was born, the energy that makes up my spirit shrouding itself in matter, my body. I am not the body, I am the energy, but the energy uses the body to experience things sensually, that as spirit, pure energy, it can not experience in such a manner while in this dimension.
In this dimension, I am a predator. not prey. As such, I have certain responsibilities. I do not kill prey for a trophy, I kill prey for sustainance for myself, and those around me that are not hunters.
When I make the kill, I thank the animal for it's sacrifice, and honor it by using every last part of it for something useful.
Death is not my enemy, and it is not my friend, it is a door that I will I will pass through when I have learned, experienced, and accomplished what I needed to while in this dimension. The energy that my body used while I was here, it must give back, when my time to leave this dimension has come.
Sorry, ma tsmuke, I can't make what is simple complicated. sometimes the ways that I walk the path of the warrior can seem to have complicated rules, but the path itself, which follows the circumference of the wheel is simple.
Niri Te

apache_blanca 02-07-2012 07:59 AM

oh, but that's a great explanation. No need to turn something simple into something complicated. I See what you're saying, absolutely. Some I learned from my experiences & some from books, but when something is right one just clicks with it, "this must feel inside"; there are "little bells ringing".

Only one thing about Death (hehe I was Just talking to somebody about it!): I learned a whole load from Don Juan's Teachings, in a nutshell: the awareness of Death & that it can tell you "Come!" any second makes one to live fully, each day as if it were the last, take responsibility for one's actions, realize that not all dreams & plans come true - but if one does the best one can in any situation, at least one's conscience will be clean. The best is different, say, when you're sick - & when you're in perfect health, but it should be "the best" one can manage. In this case, if one is respectful to Death it can become one's friend, or at least a companion, & warn him/her of a danger. It will not come suddenly but rather give a timely warning so that one can "wrap all unfinished business", make peace with everyone, and "dance the last dance". In the darkest hour, ask: "Death, is it my time?" Most probably, it will reply: "Hmm... naaah! I haven't touched you yet. Go play rabbit. Live is short - but it's wide!" And everything will seem glory! :xD: I made my peace with Death during parachuting, when the two - the main & the reserved one - opened at the same time & could tangle any second I really wondered if that was "my time"! But as you see I am still alive :)

The rest - like "all energy is borrowed & one day we have to give it back" - clicks just fine with my philosophy. Irayo for the teaching ma Niri Te :)

Edited: all said, I am a little bit cautious that we are deviating this thread "You might be addicted to Avatar..." We should probably talk about "the wheel" & what it means in a more appropriate place. Let's think, where.

Theorist 02-07-2012 12:44 PM

okay, I gotta ask, did someone here add the "When you have been a member of an Avatar forum for two years" one?

They should also add: "When you go running around in nothing but the closest thing you can legally get to a loincloth, listening to the signs of the forest."

detectoramateur 02-07-2012 03:20 PM

I didn't know it was so bad with my Avatar addiction, I have 11 symptoms!:D

Well, you can do it yourself, just by posting a comment on the page... so, your entry might become No. 49... and with another comment more, it'll be 50 signs you might be addicted to Avatar.

As is still looking for some collectibles and/or paraphernalia...
Speaking of collectibles: some Avatar fan has made a nearly life-sized Neytiri statue and is selling it for 2,000.00 Euros via a German online shop for movie memorabilia. Check this out:

http://spaceart.de/produkte/avatar_n...e_avt003-b.jpg

from: Spaceart.de - web site: Avatar: Neytiri - Life-Size Statue » SPACEart

So, being a heavy addict would mean to order this statue right away without thinking about getting in debt!

Oh, and on a side note: my (slightly cheaper) Gentle Giant Neytiri bust is on its way to me by mail... might arrive today or tomorrow...
:D
