Blue women

It is interesting how fascinated many artists and film makers seems to be of blue women. Is the girl of our dreams blue?

A woman from Edgar Rice Burroughs fantasy land Pal Ul Don:

From the comic book Time Spirits:

From Star Wars, the Clone Wars, senator Chuchi from the planet of Pantora:

A blue Twilek woman from the Star Wars universe:

And Neytiri we already know.

Why do so many artists like blue women?

The agreeable colour? The calm exotic type? Something along those lines.

I think the colour blue is something that catches attention, like how annoying blue power LEDs are for instance. Blue light in particular is really disruptive to eyes for some reason. Maybe we can get some scientific input from someone who has experience and or knowledge from that sort of thing.

Blue chicks are hot. I'd say that's the main reason.
Now... forgive me if I'm wrong but I think the Indian God Vishnu has blue skin, it could be possible for some people that different skin colours can be related to a certain level of divine-ness.

Blue is attractive to humans because it's a somewhat rare color amongst terrestrial life forms on Earth. It's unusual, so it catches our eye faster than other colors; especially the brighter cyan/sky blue colors.

It's not as rare amongst marine organisms, though.

Pantora is a moon, not a planet. Ironically.

I only know because I had to look up Pantora following your post. Amusing. :shoop:

Especially the feline types - the Edgar Rice Borroughs classic above comes with a tail, too... And then there's the giddy purple (not quite blue, but close) Trance Gemini - she came with a tail, too... until it got shot off in season two. ;)

Well, many deities from India are depicted with blue skin color - including the sometimes intimidating Kali - now, that's one blue female that can be plain scary - unlike Neyney, who's scary and beautiful at once.
And since an avatar, by definition, is the embodiment of a deity on Earth (very roughly defined, that is), the connection between blue and godly is easily made.

And it's easy to figure Neyney being a goddess in a worldly form. Plus, I bet, you'd find hundreds of followers, beginning here, if you were to start the First Church of Neyney Worship.

Wiggling bare toes,

You forgot Liara - while nowhere near Neytiri, she's still very attractive :)

Blue is the perfect colour for aliens, it gives them that real attractiveness :)

This. It's also the most common colour for people to have some form of liking it, as well as one of the most common favourite colours, and in terms of atmosphere, can convey a lot more different meanings than others.

Short wavelength, and Earth's sun is relatively lacking in the blue part of the spectrum compared to red/yellow. That makes it quite noticeable in quantity.

What is it exactly that makes star a certain spectrum when it comes to visible light? Also considering that it's such a short part of the radiation spectrum to begin with. Our sun just happens to be of the yellow spectrum, but there are also different colour stars, and I don't know what gives each star their predetermined colour. Is it the temperature that determines the wavelength when it comes to visible light?

Yes. Hotter stars emit more energetic wavelengths. Blue, purple, and UV are the higher end of the light spectrum. Also, have you noticed that you can't focus directly on a blue LED? There's something about the human brain that won't allow you to focus on a blue-only source. As for power LEDs, I like blue power LEDs, just not when they're annoyingly bright. If you have a super bright one that bothers you, just stick another 1Kohm resistor in front of it. (or cover it up with black electrical tape, whichever you prefer :P )

I don't really know why blue women are more attractive, maybe because blue is so... different. I'm not going to argue with a color scheme that works. :D

Hmmm, never thought about why blue is so attractive. I think it's probably the exotic factor of it, though txim does bring up a good point about the spirituality of blue.

Think they'll ever make a Neytiri sex doll? HAVE THEY!?

Strangely enough, I have already done exactly that. The one on my monitor, speakers and case have all been covered by black electrical tape.

Hmm, I like that cover art for the Marvel comic "Time Spirits"...that blue feline-esque lady almost looks like a Na'vi. :)
