The Raven

Ben, K. (April 27, 2012). 'The Raven' Review. In Screen Rant. Retrieved May 5, 2012, from ‘The Raven’ Review | Screen Rant.

The Raven follows the final days of Edgar Allan Poe’s life – presenting the tortured author as a self-absorbed and desperate social outcast whose work was still, at the time, mostly under-appreciated. The only glimmer of light in Poe’s impertinent existence is his furtive lover Emily Hamilton (Alice Eve), the daughter of a retired Colonel and rich Baltimore socialite. However, when a brutal serial killer begins to dispatch victims, by recreating famous murders from Poe’s published stories, including “The Murders in the Rue Morgue” as well as “The Pit and the Pendulum,” the author is thrown into a malicious battle of wits – with life and death hanging in the balance.

Has anyone else taken the time to see this movie? I went to the theater with my friend last night to see it and I must admit that it was one of the most interesting movies I've seen. It was a bit confusing at times, and I'm not quite sure why the movie was named The Raven seeing how it wasn't a retelling of Edgar Allen Poe's famous story "The Raven", but rather a game of life and death that the great Edgar Allen Poe had become involved in. I feel that the movie is alright. It wasn't too horrible and it wasn't amazing. Does anyone else have any thoughts about this movie?

Sounds interesting :)

It was definately different from what I expected ma 'eylan. That's what made it interesting, I suppose. :)

Haven't seen it yet, but the screenplay writer is from my hometown. Just wanted to throw that out there :P

Gahh the movie made me want to shove bamboo shoots under my fingernails. God this was horrid...at least it was "free". What else was I supposed to do while waiting for the Avengers to start?

Yeah, it disappointed me a bit to see how the movie turned out. I thought that it would be a lot more than what it was. It wasn't the worst movie I've seen, though, so I can't really think that it's too horrid. They had some opportunities to add some things that would have made it even better and they failed to take them. I was taken by suprise and confusion. The title of the movie is very misleading. I hate when that happens. :hmm:

That's an interesting fact ma Fighter-of-Wars. It must be cool to have someone like that from your hometown. I don't think there is anyone like that from around my area, but we are Cereal City (lol). That's all we will probably be known for. :P

Ah well, maybe I'll give it a watch some time when I feel like something new. I've been surprised by films that people didn't like more than once.

When I recieve negetive feedback on a movie that I haven't seen, I wait for it to appear on the television. We have cinema channels where we can purchase a viewing of the movie for about $5. It is a lot better than paying the price of the movie theater and being disappointed. For me and my friend it cost $13 just for the tickets, in this economy every penny counts. It's a shame that anyone would have to deal with these horrid prices. -.-

A bunch of my friends went to see this one night, but I skipped it because I couldn't afford to go to the movies. They said it was crap, but I don't know whether to believe them or not. It's something I guess I'll be downloading in the future.
