Monsanto's newest tactic must be stopped now

Get a load of what Monsanto is getting away with CONCERNING YOUR FOOD now!!!

'Monsanto Protection Act' to grant biotech industry total immunity over GM crops?

There NEEDS to be letter or E-mail campaigns RIGHT NOW. This is an ELECTION YEAR. If your Senator or Congressman is up for re-election, let them KNOW that THEIR vote for this Dietetic Tyranny, will result in their loss of YOUR VOTE.

I'm so glad I live in England.

These provisions would explicitly outlaw any review of the environmental or human impacts of GM crops under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), the Endangered Species Act (ESA), or any other environmental laws as well.

Well isn't that nice and convenient. It's not just the human population they're screwing over with their mutant crops but they also want to ruin the land too :/ How the hell are these people still in business.

They are rich.

Tsyal Makto 07-16-2012 07:25 AM

And they have a massive lobbying front in Washington to get whatever they want...like this.

Monsanto really is a monster, the closest thing to the RDA we've got in real life. And until people take a stand, this beast will only grow bigger at the expense of us and the Earth.

Wrong. You can be arrested for racist remarks, inciting riots and making death threats.

Well, not quite. The Dutch East India Company was worse, but thankfully it went bankrupt. One can hope the same happens to Monsanto et. al, but the world has changed since then, so there's no guarantees. :(

Even WITH their huge Lobbying efforts on the Legislative branch, IF, (and that is a BIG "if"), the voting public COULD be mobilized, those beneath the dome of the Capital Building, are more afraid of the power of the polling both, than the love of money and power.

That was back then. Today, Monsanto=RDA. And given what Monsanto is doing internationally, I'd say it is just as bad as the DEIC.

Find a non-troll source please. That site is like The Onion or Christwire, it is a parody - just look at their other content. Or do you genuinely believe "Obama seizes control over all food, farms, livestock, farm equipment, fertilizer and food production across America" or "Power-hungry American Dietetic Association attempting to criminalize nutritional consulting in all 50 states"?

Literally Unbelievable

Fighter-of-Wars 07-21-2012 01:16 AM

Oh wow, this is hilarious.

People are so over dramatic about the GM crops and so unthankful for them.

Previous yields on commercial corn before gene modification was introduced and hybrid breeding came into effect were lucky to top 100 bushel/acre and that was if root worms and nematodes didn't kill whole fields first. Today it's its not unusual to see 200+bushel/acre yields on corn. And the best part is, this isn't even the corn you buy at the store. Most corn is used for corn syrup, livestock feed, ethanol and corn flower and many other things. And the processing that it takes to bring the corn to these products that go directly to human use is more dangerous than any trait/gene modification.

And if we didn't have these advances in crop technology to get more grain from less ground think how much of the rainforest they would be bulldozing down to meet the needs of the world.

You can't wish food for everyone and not make advances to achieve that.

I am not a Farmer, we only grow our own food in a 1 acre garden, so we DON'T have the same situation as someone that has 300 sections growing stuff. Where this bothers US, and people like us is that these Hybrid crops cannot be used to make a certain amount of next years crop, and that REALLY hurts Family Subsistence farmers, much to the joy of the fat cats who are assured that you HAVE to come back to them every year for your seed. THAT is why people like us here in Texas, use Heirloom Seeds that you CAN get your future crops from.

You guys are missing the point. This isn't about GMO crops themselves, this is about giving Momsanto immunity, and allowing them to strong-arm the government and USDA into getting whatever they want. While definitely a partly ecological issue, it is foremost a democracy issue. This would be like BP or some other oil company trying to get a law passed that would require the government to automatically approve any drilling request they wanted, while severely limiting the EPA's ability to oversee operations. Regardless of ones stand on GMOs themselves, one should still agree that corporate railroading of all kinds (regardless of your stance on the products themselves) is bad for us and the planet.

This is true, but buying hybrid seed every year pays for itself with the increased resistance to disease, drought, and pests. As well as increased yields. But for someone in your situation hybrid seed is not needed. But I don't see how hybrid seed hurts you. You don't have to use it.
