Blu-ray special edition info

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=4338

That story has a whole lot of information on the November release of the special edition, and man, does it sound awesome :D Three versions of the movie and the feature I wanted most, a full-time picture-in-picture showing the motion capture of the entire movie.

PaTRioT 03-26-2010 05:28 AM

Woooo! thanks for the link zongtseng :) soo hopefully my pre-ordered blu-ray avatar will have one of those discount things for the november release too, although we seem to get shafted with most things like that in oz.

Helicoradian 03-26-2010 07:09 AM

The special edition sounds pretty sweet and thanks for the info zongtseng.

Cameron confirmed that the Blu-ray release would have an aspect ratio of 1.78:1 (or 16:9), which he considers the "highest and best for this movie." The movie was finished in 16:9, so for the Blu-ray they went to that master, without any pan-and-scan or blow-up.
I would like to shake Mr. Cameron's hand for this! This looking through a slit 2.35:1 ratio stuff that's happening pisses me off to no end:angry: It waste valuable screen area with those stupid black bars. At least the bare bones version is being done the right way, in 16:9:)

TxonTirea 03-26-2010 07:17 AM

Sounds great, Good job we have all preordered ours <33333

Gunny 03-26-2010 07:59 AM

This is awesome! I almost want to buy a new tv and everything before it comes out :D

Also, are they doing it in 3D? I wonder if it will be the same on personal TV's

Haha, i don't use a tv for any of my media entertainment (everything on my pc) but i have pre-ordered Avatar on Blu-ray, soo no incentive to put a blu-ray drive in my computer like it being necessary to watch the greatest film ever made!

rapunzel77 03-26-2010 02:11 PM

oh dear, I might have to shell out the money for both. I was going to wait until the end of the year to buy the special edition. My brother is planning on buying the one that is coming out next month so I'll just use his for the time being. The special edition sounds awesome :).

Stanley_9875 03-26-2010 04:10 PM

yes yes YES!!! Irayo for the link! Ugh I wish that the government didn't suck my bank account for nearly all the money I had for taxes, I want a new TV sooooo badly for Avatar, but I'll have to stick with ours. Don't get me wrong, its big, it just could be bigger... oh well time for the coffee table to find a new spot in the den because I'm going to be sitting pretty much right were thats at. Close, large, and loud! And I'll need a PS3 or other 3-D compatible Blue-Ray player before the 22nd. I'll make it happen :D Anyone want to invite me over to watch on their massive TV?

I also want to sign up for all the other bonus stuff they have, like the trees and such

guyguy 03-31-2010 08:32 AM

wow!
30 to 35 min extra?
do want indeed

tallbluewanderer 03-31-2010 05:19 PM

Awesome! Now, if only I had a big-screen TV and a Blu-ray drive. :) Well, the DVD should still be awesome ... right?

It says that the Blu-ray that is released now will have these mighty features... But are they going to be on the director's cut too? Because my plans are not to buy the blu-ray now and wait till november...

Tu'te 04-01-2010 02:41 PM

Kaltxi,

Will the blu-ray version have extra footage/content?

I'm gonna have to sell loads of stuff just to buy a telly :( Poor student LOL

Bit of numpty question, but can you get Laptops that play blu-ray then....he stands well back, awaiting the onslaught :)

Tu'te

Human No More 04-01-2010 02:48 PM

Yes, some do have a bluray drive. You'll need to look around though, and they tend to be more expensive ones.

TxonTirea 04-01-2010 05:39 PM

I just went out and bought myself a Bluray player, I was worried about a drive.
Yeah, So I hope that Avatar is in 1.78:1 Aspect because I just watched the Dark Knight in Bluray and the IMAX sequences were O_O

zongtseng 04-01-2010 09:38 PM

It's been confirmed by James Cameron that the blu-ray is in fact 1.78:1

KalaKuival 04-01-2010 09:47 PM

Sorry, but would anyone care to answer that?
It says that the Blu-ray that is released now will have these unique code features... But are they going to be on the director's cut too?

And now I'm wodering, is the code stuff on every edition that wwill be released or only one the Blu-ray + DVD 2 disk edition? (like what about DVD or single disk Blu-ray?)

Stanley_9875 04-02-2010 06:31 AM

I think it would be cool to have all three different releases of Avatar :D

Human No More 04-02-2010 02:36 PM

I'm getting the DVD and bluray now, then will get the Bluray special edition in November :)

I want the 3D bluray eventually, but no point in it for the foreseeable future as I would need a 3D TV...

Gunny 04-02-2010 04:15 PM

I thought we would only need a bluray capable of 3D?

Stanley_9875 04-02-2010 05:09 PM

I would buy a 3-D TV just for Avatar :D

IIRC, at least for proper 3D (not the low quality imitation 3D with two different coloured images, which AFAIK Avatar won't be in), you need a TV capable of displaying a 3D image.

Gunny 04-02-2010 11:47 PM

DANG! I did not know that! Looks like I will be buying a new TV than :D

Dreamwalker 04-03-2010 01:19 AM

I'm trying to convince my dad to get us a new tv so we can get a bluray. He's really into "current" stuff, so hopefully we will get one!

After almost a year ?

I think prizes will go down when 3D becomes a bit more common. It's still a long time before 3D version of Avatar will be available. :)

zongtseng 04-04-2010 01:25 AM

I think the price of 3D TV is actually quite low, given the newness of the technology. Many people here may be too young to remember some other prices for new technology. For instance, my first big screen television was a 50" projection TV with a bad picture, and that was over $3000. Prices for some of these new 3D TVs are right in line with what a good LCD/plasma can cost right now.
