Avatar The Exhibition at Liberty Science Center
Hello everyone! I'm Terri, an employee at Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, NJ. I was looking for ways to get ready for our showing of Avatar: The Exhibition (by the way if the files they sent ahead of it are anything to go by, it's AMAZING) when I happened upon a thread here talking about it.
Our page about the exhibition See our page for the movie It's always exciting to see dedicated fans so I went to my bosses to see if they'd be interested in having a meet-up here. I think this is better though. There is an opportunity to see the exhibition February 9-15 before it opens to the public February 16. Just RSVP via email (gotsci@lsc.org) by February 6. Everyone on the list will get a special wristband after they pay for admission that will get them into the exhibition. We were also hoping that we could get help from fans more knowledgeable than ourselves to get people excited about the exhibition. Maybe a small cosplay showcase or something along those lines. We're pretty open to suggestions. By the way, we will be offering discount admission for Avatar cosplayers (keep it family-friendly, please). If you're curious about how to get to our location, just visit out website: Liberty Science Center Just post if you have any questions and I'll do my best to answer them. I'd also be happy to hear any ideas you'd like to share. :) |
This sounds awesome, wish I could go :)
|
I think it would be awesome if there was also a way to coordinate with the upcoming meet that's being planned that will be held in DC sometime in July as far as I know. Just wanted to throw that out there.
|
MGCJerry, the exhibit will have moved by then.
|
Despite being told outright no in the live chat on your website, I'm still hoping you'll be able to get Avatar in the LSC's IMAX theater. :embarrassed:

I am going to attend this Exhibition sometime, just not sure when. I can't wait! |
Kaltxì TerriB...
Welcome to Tree of Souls forum. That sounds like a great opportuntiy for Avatar Fans to meet. I hope you don't mind, but I've posted your message on the LearnNa'vi and AvatarForums fan sites too. Hopefully that will spread the word for you. Below are the links: LearnNa'vi: Avatar The Exhibition at Liberty Science Center AvatarForums: Avatar The Exhibition at Liberty Science Center I would love to go, but I'm kinda doubting it as I'm in the UK. I really hope it is a great success and brings some Avatar fans together. By the way we had a meet up of Avatar Fans in Seattle last year. Check out this link to see what we got up to: AvatarMeet.com We are also planning to have another meet up in Washington DC at the end of July (25th-29th), which we are currently working on trying to make a reality. Anyway all the best with the exhibition. Help make people 'See'. For anyone who goes, it would be great if you could take any piccies or videos to share with the rest of the clans. Irayo. Alan |

I'm glad to hear you're so interested in our IMAX theater, though. If you get the chance, I'd really recommend seeing anything in it - its massive size makes for an impressive view. Quote:
You should see our blog for updates about the exhibition. We already have one post about the set up. LSC Blog: Big Things are Happening |
Update: We will be getting the movie for our 3D theater, not our IMAX. Still, I feel quite strongly that Avatar is at its best on the big screen. See the movie page for more info.

Oh, wow! That is txantsan ma TerriB. I see that the link say that Avatar will play daily at 5 pm. Is that for the duration of the exhibition or for a limited period?
Just wish I could come across the pond to meet up with my Avatar family to watch it again. It really is an amazing experience to watch it as a clan. :( Just one other question... Do you know which version it is that will be playing ; the original, special edition or collectors edition? Many thanks again. Alan |

This is outstanding! I am SO going even if it's a 7 hour drive for me. :)
One question, is the movie gonna be available until May 19 like the exhibition? |

Is there a particular day being organised for a meet up at the Exhibition? We could end up with Avatar fans turning up on different days and missing each other.
If there was a particular day all those thinking of going could meet that would be great, especially if Avatar 3D was showing that day too. Alan |

I emailed them last night and got the following reply: "Good Day, Please see below for our Avatar schedule. Avatar Schedule Saturday, February 16th 5:00 PM Sunday, February 17th 5:00 PM Monday, February 18th 5:00 PM Tuesday, February 19th 5:00 PM Wednesday, February 20 5:00 PM Friday, February 22nd 5:00 PM Saturday, February 23rd 5:00 PM Run Times Avatar 162 minutes Prices Adult Child/Senior $10.00 $8.00 Prices Member Adult Member Child $6.50 $4.50 Thank you, Ronald" I was really hoping that they would be showing it for the duration of the exhibition to allow an opportunity for a mini meet up.... Alan |
Aw, they should have made that info available sooner.
|
I emailed them saying that we were notified late and wondering if they could show it during the last week of the exhibition to allow us, fans, to gather a meet-up, to see the movie. Let's hope they can do it.
|
I hope so as well. I'd love to have a mini meet-up and if we can work this out, I'm definitely going native. :war: ;)
|
Oh, wow, this is sooo coool! I feel a bit of a meet up coming on! :hi:
Yeah, its a shame they didn't let us know sooner about them showing Avatar 3D as it takes a bit of time to gather the clan. Great stuff to contact them ahoragi! Lets hope they seriously consider doing another showing. I guess there are two directions we could take: Just organise a meet up on the last weekend (18th-19th May) and hope they show Avatar, or wait until we get confirmation if the museum are going to show Avatar first. Duno? Would it be worth continuing this discussion regarding a possible meet up at the exhibition on the thread linked below, which CyanRachel started last week, regarding a Meet Up at the museum? http://www.tree-of-souls.com/meetups...tml#post178385 Alan :) |
That's where I've been looking lately. Perhaps we should keep all the information in one spot just to keep things simple and to prevent somebody from missing something.
|
Terri, I know it is probably far too late for suggestions such as this, but you have a motion simulator at the Liberty Science Center and IMO, that seems like the perfect thing for simulated Ikran flights if possible.
|
I have yet to receive a reply to my email. :(

Highs and lows:
Highs: 1. The touchscreen that allows you to see digital paintings of various Avatar related things. Best part of the exhibit right there IMO. 2. Seeing Avatar in a movie theater. Always a positive and always appreciated. The shallow stairs are also certainly appreciated by someone like prematurely arthritic me. I'm sure the one kid who was on crutches probably appreciated them too. 3. The documentary style video presentations. 4. The props, especially Neytiri's bow & arrow. That arrow is as long as I am tall (at least) and I'm 6'. Lows: 1. I got there at 2 P.M. and the tickets for the four o'clock showing of whatever that was on the first floor (Tour of Pandora? I don't know.) were already gone. I'll probably try again on Wednesday. 2. The red screen scene. I didn't try it, but I was watching some kids do this and the final product looked terrible. |

By the way, I'm also totally in love with the digital concept-art table from the exhibition. I'm a complete sucker for anything augmented reality. I hope you have better luck getting into the Expedition Pandora show. However, after today (Tuesday, February 19), it's only going to show on weekends. I still recommend it though. It's full of all sorts of neat little Easter Eggs. |
I received a reply today :)

Well I don't know what anyone else thinks but I would say the last weekend of the exhibition would be a really good time, i.e. 18th and 19th May. This would give the maximum amount of time for things to be planned like hotels, transport etc, and allow people to make arrangmenets to join in the mini-meet. It will also hopefully be a little warmer for anyone wanting to do cosplay too. Well, that is what I would suggest. The other thing is that it would also enable me to come across the pond too and say Kaltxi to ma eylan. :hi: :awesome: Alan |
By the way, a heads up for Terri. As of yesterday, the headphones on, I think it was "the Sounds of Avatar", each of the headphones has only one working ear.

Irayo TerriB for forwarding the request through. Hope all comes good.
Alan |
Yes, a very big Irayo to you, TerriB, for maintaining contact with us here at ToS and trying to help us out with our potential fan meet-up at the LSC! :)
And Alan -- I agree with you...I too think the last weekend of the exhibit (May 18 - 19) would, at this point, be the best time to have a mini-meet at the LSC, for all the reasons you mentioned. So perhaps we should tell TerriB about those dates? |
I would also like to thank TerriB! I think that we're a very lucky group to have so many 'official' people connect with us, whether they work at museums or helped make Avatar. I think it's touched more people than we know. :)

Again though, I would say your best best is to figure out who all will definitely go, email our sales staff (who are extremely helpful) at sales@lsc.org, and tell them that you're coming as a group (which would give you the cheaper group-rate). I believe that is also what you would need to do to arrange the movie showing but, as I said before, Anne Marie would be the one who would know for sure on that. Let me know if/when you guys email them so I can give her a heads-up. |
Kaltxi TerriB :hi:
Many thanks for getting back. It seems a bit like a 'chiclen and egg' thing! The reason being that us fans need to know if/when the LSC is going to show Avatar 3D so we can make our travel arrangements, especially as some of us are coming from overseas, like me. On the other hand I guess the LSC need to have an idea of how many people would be coming to a meet up to see 'how worth it is' to put it on again for the fans and general public. I've just had a quick look through this thread and various correspondence and it appears there are 'potentially' 11 who have shown an interest. There maybe more out there if it was to be confirmed that Avatar was going to be shown. But even if you could not show Avatar due to the apparent low numbers, it would still be good to know that as we can decide if we still want to do a meet up anyway. It's just the uncertainty at the moment that is preventing people from committing. Unfortunately as time ticks away things get more expensive for us to organise flights, hotels and transport etc. Having said all that, it would be cool to show Avatar 3D on the last Saturday anyway to give the exhibition one last send off and entice people to have a last chance look at the exhibition. ;) Hey, it's a thought! Once again many thanks for your time if helping us out here. It is much appreciated. Hope to hear from you soon :hi: Alan |
I will be there that weekend for sure so I hope I get to see the 3D showing. :)
