Burning Man is having a strange effect on me... Halp

Hey guys its been awhile since my last thread so this should be a good one.

I was browsing a website and saw a Porter Robinson- language music video. The video was a hula cam thing at burning man 2012. (Yes if you look it up it is a bit...raunchy in parts but that's not the point or why I watched it.) anyway...I researched Burning Man and discovered enough about it to make me want to go. This is saying something because I'm the exact opposite of most people that go. (Not artsy, not too great at self expression, and I have been content with my routine life.) it's to the point where I need to do something different, get away from the routine... Burning man has had an effect on me so much so that I am sleeping in a guest bed just to switch things up a bit (pathletic I know).

So the thing I am posting about is this: why is burning man affecting me so much?.. I'm not the target person who would go to such an event but its making me go stir crazy here.. It is hosted in the desert and is so different than everyday life so I am thinking its the draw of a "new world" as they put it. A chance to escape the routine and be you for a week... Idk... What do you guys think...

(Also sorry for the affect vs. effect and probable misuse of them...been a long day.) :shoop:

Burning Man is a week long escape into the Nevada desert where thousands of people gather and use art and self expression to build buildings, and other artistic things and listen to all forms of electronic music. Sometimes we want that escape to different places... why do you think I love desert/mountain parties, some that last for three days? I havent been to burning man before, doesnt really appeal to me... but sometimes we feel the need for escape... and if you want to escape to a world filled with art, music, camping, and people for a week trust me this is the place to go. I might go someday, but whenever x3

This isnt something you can just go to though you really need to prepare for it since you'll be in the desert for a week... plenty of water, food, toiletries, equipment... ect.

Here is the Burning Man website and they can main you a preperation guide. If you want more information you can message me or just want to talk about it more be my guest *hugs*

And if you really wanted to we could make a plan for you and I to go to the one next year =^-^=

I mean I would love to go next year and on top of that meet someone from ToS. Next summer I will be out of college and will have enough money to go. So it could work out. If anyone else wAnts to plan to go with us you can.

But I think you are right, it's an escape from this "world" and into another one. I guess that is a big reason for why I and others like Avatar... Except burning man is a little more tangible.

Yeah, I guess you have a routine life which is comfortable but that you get bored with easy enough.

Stanley_9875 03-13-2013 10:28 PM

Yea thats basically the core of it... an escape from everyday life for a whole week to be out in the desert with nothing to worry about. Leave it all outside =^-^= Thats why I love raving; the escape, the music, and the family =D of course the family here too :3

If you feel like going, go :P. I can still see its appeal, certainly, even if it isn't exactly my kind of thing.

Sometimes you just need to do something a bit different.

Haha thanks hmm and moco. I didn't really know how to explain it and I knew no one would understand but my family here. Thanks guys :). It's just so different for me...

You're obviously on a lot of drugs.

No, although a kid offered me cocaine today and a track meet.. Within earshot of a cop..:S. I will ignore the second part.

Stan, you said you have attended events like burning man, what do you take from the experience. Like, what emotions about it have stayed with you?

LA underground events like warehouse raves, deserts, mountains... its a uplifting time, where you can truly be yourself. Dress how you want, be who you are without the fear of judgement. Me and my kandi kid friends dress crazy, trade kandi, talk about music, ect. Things that just let us forget about the outside world. You feel a part of something. Its a constant craving afterwards for more. More times to get away, be with your raver family/friends, listen to good music, dance, and just have fun. Dress up, go crazy with it. And I may joke, but I'm a sober raver, and I know many others, nothing wrong with that, in fact I think its better xD

Its a lifestyle. A lifestyle for me of living for the music and good times being with people, expressing yourself through dancing and dress

Deep in the heart of LA warehouses, far out in the deserts, or high and far back in the mountains, its the feeling of escape, being a part of something... something I cant quite explain, but always leaves me wanting more =^-^=

Peace
Love
Unity
Respect
