Those are cool. What's the single button for on some of the rotary phones?

I had a lot more interesting hobbies before I moved to the UK and had to leave most of my stuff, biking, bugs, sewing, but one thing has been easier since I moved, and that's cooking. I should take more pictures of stuff I cook, I almost never do.

Ah yes this is the earth button, or in German "Erdtaste" when you push the white Earth button then come the dial tone by a PBX.

In English:

Hook flash - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

German:

Rückfragetaste

I do crafts, knitting, sewing, jewelry making etc. I also study Biology (though that's not really a hobby). I want to get into gardening at some point. I like your phones! My house's second phone was a rotary until 2005.

Also I know English isn't your first language, so I think I should point out your grammar error in the title. "Our other Hobby's beside Avatar" should be "Our other hobbies beside Avatar".

Nouns ending in "y" turn into "ies" when pluralized.
1 hobby -> 2 hobbies
1 puppy -> 2 puppies
1 sky -> 2 skies

If the noun has a vowel (a, e, i, o, u) before the y then the plural would end in "ys"
1 day -> 2 days
1 monkey -> 2 monkeys

I'm not a linguist, but this is probably to prevent vowel clusters. Daies looks extremely odd in English.

Lastly, what you did with "hobby's" looks like a possessive noun or a contraction. English uses apostrophes in different ways.

As a contraction:
Jake is a moron -> Jake's a moron
Do not run -> don't run

These come about in languages naturally when common words get shortened.

However, English also uses the apostrophe to show possession.

"Avatar of Jake" or "Avatar owned by Jake" -> Jake's Avatar
Bow of Neytiri -> Neytiri's Bow

if the noun already ends in an "s" because it's plural, you put the apostrophe after it.

"the hobbies of the fans" or "the hobbies belonging to the fans" -> the fans' hobbies

As a hobby I like linguistics and language structure a little bit, though I have terrible English spelling. I'm also really lazy about studying other languages on my own.

Thanks for your easy correction, but i had hate in the school the grammatical part of a language, wherever German or English :D I am very bad in grammatical questions, i can speak fluent German and English sooo yes i think it's ok for a little bit talk and so...

Ah a rotary phone user not bad! I search for my collection a original Western Electric or Bell system phone with keys, the typical phone in the 70s and 80s. The problem for me in Germany is, the most seller from Ebay don't ship the things to Germany. I hope i can buy sometime so a phone!

Come to forums...see lesson on grammar.

Great, I can't escape work it seems. Worse I was teaching that...two weeks ago. Something like that.

I write in my "spare" time. (points at random thought/chatter) Recently got my first real story published. Had some other minor things scattered, but that is the first time I have been paid. Finishing the final, and I mean it this time, rewrite of my novel currently. A nice Pseudo-Victorian Steampunk Fantasy novel dealing with Colonialism, White Man's Burden, and the Mighty Whitey, clocking in at a short 200,000 words.

That's funny, so it's like a button to do whatever you wanted to assign to it :P I've seen some rotary phones around at relatives' houses but never noticed if they have a button like that.

Telephones are pretty cool. I kind of half-miss the times when people didn't expect me to always be available via phone. And old phones look awesome. I once saw a bag where the handle was the handle-thing of an old telephone, and it had that rotating thing on the side of the bag. A pretty creative way to re-use an old phone. Also epic looking.

Besides Avatar (not that I consider it a hobby), I draw, crochet and needlebind (=single needle knitting)... I can post pics of my needlebound works if anyone is interested. :P

Nice phones :)

Mine: System and network administration (well, my job, but hobby too :P), infosec/netsec, lockpicking (a little out of practice... should really get back into it), and reading, I guess.

Anyone familiar with me will know that I'm an aerospace nut. Something about flying in and beyond the skies is just so fascinating.

Now, earning an aerospace engineering degree on the other hand...
