Let's make some sentences!

Kaltxė!

I see we have some lesson threads, a Na'vi Chat board (Textual Na'vi) and a bunch of threads asking questions. But so far I haven't really seen a Practice sentences thread.

Here is a good place to casually make up some sentences and take a look at how stuff fits together. I want to do all this in a way that ALL people here can understand. No Linguistics Ph.D required. In fact, let's keep all linguistic discussions on the LearnNa'vi forums or in other threads or elsewhere. ;)

Friendly, simple correction is welcomed, the simpler the better.
All skill levels are welcome and encouraged to post stuff. Especially beginners and people totally new to the language and those who may not yet be comfortable posting in a Na'vi chat thread. :)

To make things easy for all, let's post like this, for example:

Quote:

Oel ayngati kameie
Oe-l ay-nga-ti kam<ei>e
I you(plural) See
"I See you"
That is,

First line: The original Na'vi sentence, (I put mine in RoyalBlue color to make it look good and stand out)
Second line(optional): The Na'vi sentence with dashes and brackets to make picking out root words easier
Third line(optional): Literal word for word translation
Fourth line: Intended original meaning

So yeah, let's all grab a dictionary or open Dict-Na'vi.com Online Dictionary and try to throw together some sentences! :D

Sorry I posted this in the other thread last night thinking it was this one.

Thanks a lot, friend!

Oel yamom wutsot, wutso lu sėltsan.
I ate dinner, dinner was good

fmawn lu ke sėltsan fėtrr.
The news is not good today.

Near Perfect! :D

Just make sure to put ke before lu.

In English we always have to say stuff like "is not" but in Na'vi we always have to say stuff like "not is". (Ke always goes just before the verb, not after like in English)

(I also edited your post in my quote to continue the standard look I mentioned above in the first post here. ;))

Irayo nėtxan ma tsmukan!!

TireaAean 07-19-2014 01:54 AM

Nėprrte'! :)

Maybe I'll throw one in here.

Oel syuvet atxan yėmom. 'Efu yehakx set.
Oe-l syuve-t a-txan y<ėm>om. 'Efu yehakx set.
I food much just ate. Feel full now.
"I just ate a lot of food. I'm full now."

Almost there. Just the endings. :)

Tsu'teyėl tamėng oeru tstalit.

whatever has -l/-ėl on the end is the person giving, whatever has -t/-ti/-it on the end is the thing being given away, and whatever has -r/-ru/-ur on the end is the one who receives it.

L gives T to R. That's how I like to remember it. :)

--------
I'll make another one:

Wayėntxu oel tskoti oeyä ngar
W<ay>ėntxu oe-l tsko-ti oe-yä nga-r
Will-show I bow my to-you
"I will show you my bow"

:D Nice one!

Forgive me is the phrase Oeru txoa livu (to me forgiveness may there be)

I ate the last teylu -> Oel yėmom syena teylut

Tawtuteri lu zekwä amrr alunta vefya holpxayä lu keteng.
Tawtute-ri lu zekwä a-mrr alunta vefya holpxay-ä lu keteng.
As-for-Skyperson, is finger five -because system of-number is different.
"As for skypeople, because there are five fingers, the number system is different." OR: "Skypeople have a different number system because they have five fingers"

EDIT: Btw, if anyone ever has any confusion or questions about something not making sense, feel free to ask. :)

Yeah I took advantage of the flexible word order. alunta basically lets you write a "because" sentence backwards without reversing the meaning.
