Behold! My grand debut!
I'm not much of a cameraman, but here you go anyway :P More to come, probably. |
Those geckos look great Raiden! :)
Btw, what's the real difference between Salamander's and Gecko's? |
Quote:
Well, starting from the top, taxonomically: Leopard Gecko: Animalia > Chordata > Reptilia > Squamata > Eublepharidae > Eublpharis > Macularis Chinese Firebelly Newt: Animalia > Chordata > Amphibia > Caudata > Salamandridae > Cynops > Orientalis Amphibians: - Are ectothermic (cold blooded). - Live the first part of their life as an aquatic larva with gills. - Do not lay eggs with shells; eggs are jelly coated and are layed in water. - Their skin does not protect them from drying out; some species will die within ten minutes of being removed from water. Other species can go for very long periods without water by covering their body with a waxy material or by burrowing underground and hiding in a mucous cocoon until rain returns. - Frogs, Toads, Newts, Salamanders, Caecilians, and Mudpuppies/Ohms are all amphibians. Lizards: - Have a tough, watertight layer of scales on top of their epidermis (and firmly attached to it) - Lay eggs with a calcium-based shell in small clutches (this makes them an amniote). - Can survive in any climate that is warm enough, thanks to their watertight skin. - Are also ectotherms. - Include Geckos, Iguanas, Monitor Lizards, Bearded Dragons, Anoles, Chameleons, and more. - Do not spend the first half of their life as an aquatic larva; the babies are juvenile adults, and live on land. (any animal that does not have babies that resemble a "mini-adult" of the animal are considered "larvae" as babies). ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ So, a lot. My newt would die if he left the water for a few hours, and the geckos could go for weeks without water if they had to. There's more, but I could write a whole article about it if I wanted. |

The lid for the box says "larver", which is larvae in swedish...
Are you swedish raiden? (you sure don't sound swedish though :P) |

No, I'm not. I'm in the U.S. It does sort of look like an R or something, but if you pause the video it looks more like an E. It's just my crappy handwriting :P |

:xD: I thought of that when he wouldn't eat the food |
that gecko is pretty cool, I've never seen anything like that. I particularly like it's tail, it looks so weird! :xD:

When I got him he was in real bad shape. The tail was about as thick as a pencil. If he had gone much longer without food or water in that state, he would've been a goner. These are also one of the lizards that can drop their tail if they are confronted with a predator; the tail wiggles around a bit, and the predator takes the tail, giving the lizard a chance to escape. However, this is still not good; the lizard loses all of the nutrients and water it had been storing, and if it does get sick, its in trouble. A new tail will regrow, but it will be stumpy and short; this is thought to be because the new tail winds up being shaped a little like the lizard's head, and that predators will strike the tail again instead of the head, allowing the lizard to dodge the proverbial bullet yet again. |
Lizards... what can't they do :D
