Every inch of this planet is owned. You'd have to go to another planet if you truly wanted to start over. It wouldn't be impossible for members of a modernized civilization to dial it back to a simpler way of life. It isn't for everyone, but speaking as someone who lived without electricity, running water, air conditioning or TV for 5 years while living in a camper in the woods I can tell you first hand it is a better life. If you truly want to know how someone would cope during a catastrophic event where humans had to start over just look at how they react when the electricity goes out. Most people get very anxious and restless. I light a candle and layout the couch thinking about space and distant worlds. One benefit of not having electricity for 5 years as a child is that I learned to occupy myself by living in my mind. Not an easy thing for the many mindless people of today.

How will you*actually*sustain yourself?*The idea that you would "hunt cows" - which do not exist in the wild anywhere in the world - suggests a complete lack of experience on how to realistically get enough food and supplies to get through each day. This is hard. There has to be a very exhaustive plan on how to do this. (I have did three years worth of research on my idea. On he island that MY father lived on there are already pigs, horses, and so on on the island that was accidentally brought there many year ago by ships)

an 8 Billion Dollar Island, and you can't spellcheck, use paragraphs, or spaces between question/answer lines?! i guess that means you have no infrastructure, assistants, guides, organizational skills, you know, things that bind a community together as a cohesive unit.

Of course it's not the first time, but the thread you mention is a very serious and realistic project. Believe me, I've read lots of their threads on the LearnNa'vi forum. No 8-billion-dollar island, collaboration of the members, lots of raised points, transparency, the opposite of join_the_navi. Probably the same thing for the Blue Moon tribe.
Unfortunately, that project didn't go far, probably because of the time and energy required to prepare it and its bigness.
So when I came across this thread, I knew it was too good to be true.
