Forum Resolution and Scale
Forum Resolution and Scale
The forum looks different across multiple platforms and screen sizes or resolutions and I thought it would be a good idea to show the difference 'side by side' so everyone can see how the resolution changes scale. The reason I'm posting this is in response to signature scaling. Here we can share our thoughts and suggestions on what is considered reasonable dimensions for signatures and see if we can come to a consensus. For reference I'm using my mom's laptop and my tablet. Laptop - Resolution 1366x768 / Windows 8.1 / Firefox Tablet - Resolution 1200x1920 / Android 6.0.1 / Google Chrome Note - Tablet screen size 600x960 @ 1200x1920 Here is what the Shoutbox looks like to me on my tablet. Here is the Shoutbox on the laptop. Here's an example of a short response. Here it is again on a laptop. Here's a great example of how the scale is changed. The dragons look small to me. I had no idea those dragons were THAT big. Here's a longer post and it also shows what Eltu's signature looks like. Here it is again. I'll continue with another post showing some current scales. |
Eltu's and SaphirJD's are pretty cool :D Going to make a new one when I find some time

Tbh 500x500 is very reasonable

i like some of the signature shapes, but my sig was made by the venerable Prowler and always represents my undying love for the Azure Angel. thanks always, Prowler :)
|
lol everyone elses sigs are so professional - then you got mine :xD: tbh i genuinely like everyones sigs on here, they give a little of the users personality - and you instantly recognise them simply by their sig :)

I'll have to make a new one after the forum update. Quote:
That's how I tell who is who when I'm quickly thumbing through the forum. |

@Eltu by the way, is it possible to change my login name to match my Signature please :) |
I like the current design (and really love the sneak peak of the redesign) of ToS because it goes along with my system and browser design, but I have a problem due to high resolution, specs are:
Resolution 2560x1440 / Win 10 / Firefox 49 with a browser wide default zoom of 150% everything is large enough, but all images including the signatures are blurry: http://i.imgur.com/hnM8khO.png I think this can be solved somehow, maybe by uploading my signature in a higher resolution to imgur (1600x600), but limiting the height it is displayed in to a fix ration like 5% of vertical screen space? without zoom, images are perfectly sharp, but only 1/3 of the screen is actually used and text is way to small: http://i.imgur.com/hWI4Qcv.png |
Sorry it took so long to reply to this!
The current forum is not responsive - it's one of the drawbacks of vBulletin 3, it can look good around a certain resolution but as soon as you're on a low/high res, or on a tablet or phone, it often looks way too large or way too small. The new version is fully responsive and is guaranteed to look great no matter your device. So all this will be completely resolved once the upgrade happens. :) Through this, it'll also optimize signature sizes so they will always look reasonably large. The new version will have a signature size limit, though I haven't decided quite what it should be yet. I agree signatures are great, but they can be just as identifiable and still be reasonably small. I think somewhere around 200px high is a fair limit, personally. |

You may try sending Eltu a PM. Quote:

The CHASE site has 4 different views on my tablet. This isn't mobile or desktop so I'm guessing it's a responsive version? This is desktop mode... This of course is mobile... This is mobile in desktop mode... lol Is that what will happen to ToS? Forgive my ignorance... I haven't done anything in web design for just over a decade and a lot has changed. Quote:
No one seems to have an issue towards signature dimension limits or the proposed height limit of 200px. Most of us are already just beneath 200px. Anyone think 200px is too small? Quote:
