fake-pres Biff Tannen said he was going to defund and get rid of NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which was formed in the 1940s post-WW2, as a buffer against the worldwide rise of soviet/chinese communist aggression, and remains today as the Western defensive alliance against an increasingly belligerent putin and his aggressor forces. i'm sorry, but we still need NATO in a really bad world with 38 nuclear countries and the chinese aggressors on the rise, as well as more than 106 known terrorist organizations that want to kidnap/torture/kill Westerners. well, today that orange-faced clown reversed his stupidity and seems to be throwing support back for NATO and it's necessary relevance. thank the stars there is someone in his administration not wearing a dunce cap. *crosses fingers*

...ok, I chuckled at Biff Tannen. :D

I'll be honest: I start to be tired with all the societal issues.
|
Some argue that is very much a goal of the Trump administration - to create resistance fatigue, make sure people get tired of the protesting and outcries so that it'll be easier to get through future actions.
Not sure how much or little truth there is to that, but it's an interesting point of view. |
Well, it's not just the Trump administration (anyway, Biff Donald Tannen [Jak is right on this one] doesn't occupy a lot of space in my life since I live in Canada). We have the aftermath of the shootings in Quebec city, which includes all the reflections and the newspaper columns on the extreme left wing or the cohabitation of the different communities. I also think about the issues school forces us to analyse (other than poverty and bad life conditions) because I'm in a elitist program and because it's a requirement for getting my secondary studies certificate.
I'm a bit centered on myself, but I'm not close minded. There's just not only that to think about in life. I have a future and happiness to build. |

The more the protests happen, the more likely people are to see videos of people being beaten with poles and bats and signs and shovels, colleges being burned down and people being tortured live on Facebook, the more it reinforces the support of President Biff regardless of what he does. He needs these protests and he needs the constant stream of abuse towards anyone who might (not did, might) have voted for him. Without it, he has no shot at re-election. |
i am happy to have caused a few chuckles in these politically dark times. :D

As you get closer to death your perspective changes and the posts you make change as well. One day a post I make will become the very last post I ever make. What will it say about me? Do I want that post to be a hate filled rant about a political party I fundamentally disagree with or do I want my last post to be one of hope and joy? It's something I've thought about a lot especially after seeing all of the horrible comments to me and others during the presidential election. So if this post becomes my last post I'd like to leave you with this video.

Is it likely to be your last post? I certainly hope not. And interesting video. I don't know if I agreed with all it but still it makes you think. |
So, I know that some of you aren't from America, but how do you guys feel about Black Lives Matter movement and the whole White Privilege thing?

I think as with most things, there are extremes at both end of the spectrum and there's a reasonable core idea somewhere in the middle.
I think there's definitely a thing such as white privilege - even in this day and age you are better off if you're white (or for that matter, male) solely for that reason. Of course not everyone treats people differently based on race but it is a societal issue and one that should be discussed and brought to light. Some people take this concept too far however - the idea, for instance, of holding white people accountable for historical cruelty to people of other races I think is a misguided effort. There is absolutely racism today, but blaming an individual for actions of the past simply because of shared race is doing exactly what you'd try to prevent in the first place. Likewise the Black Lives Matter movement, I think, has great core ideals - highlighting the fact that yes, there's still racist ideas and mindsets today and it is something that needs to be actively fought. Just as with any loosely connected group however, there are often individuals taking things too far and those are usually the ones that make the headlines. It feels all too common that people only see the extremes - "White people should be blamed for everything!" and "There is no racism at all today!" - and applies this to both ideas of white privilege and groups such as Black Lives Matter, while the truth is far more nuanced. |
I agree. The issue is far from black and white.
