The world is a mess, but looking at the positives for a moment, at least I have plenty to read about in the newspaper these days.
|
^Definitely, but I'd really like some positive news once in a while. Actually the most "positive" news here in Germany was when that terrorist guy Amri was hunted down and got shot in Italy...

it will curious to see, whether or not President Obama will issue a pardon for Edward Snowden, before he leaves office on the 20th. Snowden should be pardoned and protected under the 1989 Whistleblower Protection Act, a United States federal law that protects federal whistleblowers who work for the gov't and report agency misconduct. regardless of whether you agree with Snowden's methods of exposing the illegal and unconstitutional bulk data collection and mass surveillance, he didn't do any of it for money or fame, he did it as a moral service to the people of America, and by extension, our allies and friendly countries, and obviously our enemies.
i have always wondered how we are supposed to be the shining symbol of 'democracy' to the world, when we are ourselves are not a democracy??? we hold people in black site prisons, we hold people in gitmo for 15 years with no due process or rights, we profile our own citizens, we mass surveillance the whole damn world, and we blow you up with armed drones whenever we feel like it. is my gov't gonna launch a hellfire missle down at my router i.p. because of my critical post??? it's not beyond the realm of possibility...:shock::shock: |

can you believe that our AssClown-in-Chief Elect is tweeting negativity about celebrities at 3AM IN THE FRIGGIN' MORNING?!!!!!
smh at the soon to be three ring circus in the White House. |
Personally I'm hoping that every single award winner at the Oscars (plus a handful of nominees and other attendees) makes a jab at him and then he'll finally give up at the prospect of having so many people to tweet about.
|
I'm content to wait until Trump gets in to power and see what he actually does before I attack him. I am really hoping that the responsibility that comes with being President of the US makes him mature, just slightly.
|
|
lol I've seen a story where a popular news anchor in my country was accused of being a reptilian.
|
it's rather amusing to see that trump wants so badly to be part of the hollywood crowd yet he keeps insulting them at every chance on twitter. trump is such an assclown, smh. he's like a schoolyard bully with some power now.
|
i do believe this character we elected to the highest office in the land, is gonna deliver his State of the Union Address via the twitter portal at say 3am in the morning. how low can we sink as a nation, when even washed up ex-reality showtards like snooki are shaking their heads in disgust.
|
Well there it is fellow forum frequenters. One President Trump.
It wasn't a bad speech, I wonder if he wrote it himself. |
Yeah, it was pretty nice. He sounded like a Grandpa. In the good way.
|
Was his speech decent?
|
Well Captain Cheeto is turning out to be dangerously cheesy :/
1. Wins election, then commences to complian that illegals cost him the popular vote, and says he's going to investigate this "fraud" (which there is no evidence of). 2. Again, won election, but complains that media lied about the size of his inaguration crowd. 3. Pushes exec. Orders through for the pipelines, so yep ignoring Native american rights, and screwing the environment because apparently the only jobs we can create involve oil. 4. Issueing Gag order for the EPA, USDA afterwards. 5. Sent out a tweet threatening to send the Feds into Chicago to curb murder issue at 2 am ( I was worried that he was going to invade another country, but Illinois is closer I guess :/ hrh 6. Still threatening to "make" Mexico pay for his wall. 7. "Alternative facts" no such thing, pick up a dictionary, you have fact, and fiction, and that's it. 8. He did kill TPP, so 1 point for the clown, but overall he seems to be the dangerous, protectionist narcissist I have feared, hang on, its going to get bumpy. |
that trump dude is really riling up the world! geez. smh. has there ever been a republican president who HASN'T started or declared war?!
|
Sadly if it wasn't real, it'd be hilarious, like an episode of south park, ex. Pres. Trump calls up the president of Mexico and says, if they can't take care of those "bad hombres" down there, we (the US) will help. Seriously, Mo'at's words never rang so true. "Insanity"

As a non-American, I do find it interesting how polarizing US politics is in dividing everything between the "republican" and "democrat" views with very little ambiguity or wiggle room inbetween. Goes to show the limitations of the two-party, winner-takes-all system, where you simply have to vote for the candidate with the least policies you disagree with. Compare to Sweden which has 10+ parties where each party gets power proportional to the amount of votes. Makes it easy to say, vote for an environmentalist-centered or other specialized party without feeling like you're wasting your vote, and it also makes for a way less polarized, two-sides society overall when discussing political views. In the US in some ways you're generally one or the other, in Sweden you have a more complex mesh of views. Trump's certainly in my opinion both extremely incompetent and a horrible human being, but also shows how the American system doesn't work well to begin with - Bernie had the right idea I think to embrace Scandinavian models in may aspects of government. Of course, as a Scandinavian I say that with some amount of bias :D |

http://i1100.photobucket.com/albums/...psw5rllvqn.gif what we can expect from the trumpshow over the next 4 years...suppression of the press and the 1st Amendment. and oh yeah, more spying on us by the gov't. |
At least all you guys in american have it better than us Canadians.......oh wait we are screwed too. Forget I said anything!

fake-pres Biff Tannen said he was going to defund and get rid of NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, which was formed in the 1940s post-WW2, as a buffer against the worldwide rise of soviet/chinese communist aggression, and remains today as the Western defensive alliance against an increasingly belligerent putin and his aggressor forces. i'm sorry, but we still need NATO in a really bad world with 38 nuclear countries and the chinese aggressors on the rise, as well as more than 106 known terrorist organizations that want to kidnap/torture/kill Westerners. well, today that orange-faced clown reversed his stupidity and seems to be throwing support back for NATO and it's necessary relevance. thank the stars there is someone in his administration not wearing a dunce cap. *crosses fingers*
|
...ok, I chuckled at Biff Tannen. :D
|
I'll be honest: I start to be tired with all the societal issues.
|
Some argue that is very much a goal of the Trump administration - to create resistance fatigue, make sure people get tired of the protesting and outcries so that it'll be easier to get through future actions.
Not sure how much or little truth there is to that, but it's an interesting point of view. |
Well, it's not just the Trump administration (anyway, Biff Donald Tannen [Jak is right on this one] doesn't occupy a lot of space in my life since I live in Canada). We have the aftermath of the shootings in Quebec city, which includes all the reflections and the newspaper columns on the extreme left wing or the cohabitation of the different communities. I also think about the issues school forces us to analyse (other than poverty and bad life conditions) because I'm in a elitist program and because it's a requirement for getting my secondary studies certificate.
I'm a bit centered on myself, but I'm not close minded. There's just not only that to think about in life. I have a future and happiness to build. |

The more the protests happen, the more likely people are to see videos of people being beaten with poles and bats and signs and shovels, colleges being burned down and people being tortured live on Facebook, the more it reinforces the support of President Biff regardless of what he does. He needs these protests and he needs the constant stream of abuse towards anyone who might (not did, might) have voted for him. Without it, he has no shot at re-election. |
i am happy to have caused a few chuckles in these politically dark times. :D

As you get closer to death your perspective changes and the posts you make change as well. One day a post I make will become the very last post I ever make. What will it say about me? Do I want that post to be a hate filled rant about a political party I fundamentally disagree with or do I want my last post to be one of hope and joy? It's something I've thought about a lot especially after seeing all of the horrible comments to me and others during the presidential election. So if this post becomes my last post I'd like to leave you with this video.

Is it likely to be your last post? I certainly hope not. And interesting video. I don't know if I agreed with all it but still it makes you think. |
So, I know that some of you aren't from America, but how do you guys feel about Black Lives Matter movement and the whole White Privilege thing?

I think as with most things, there are extremes at both end of the spectrum and there's a reasonable core idea somewhere in the middle.
I think there's definitely a thing such as white privilege - even in this day and age you are better off if you're white (or for that matter, male) solely for that reason. Of course not everyone treats people differently based on race but it is a societal issue and one that should be discussed and brought to light. Some people take this concept too far however - the idea, for instance, of holding white people accountable for historical cruelty to people of other races I think is a misguided effort. There is absolutely racism today, but blaming an individual for actions of the past simply because of shared race is doing exactly what you'd try to prevent in the first place. Likewise the Black Lives Matter movement, I think, has great core ideals - highlighting the fact that yes, there's still racist ideas and mindsets today and it is something that needs to be actively fought. Just as with any loosely connected group however, there are often individuals taking things too far and those are usually the ones that make the headlines. It feels all too common that people only see the extremes - "White people should be blamed for everything!" and "There is no racism at all today!" - and applies this to both ideas of white privilege and groups such as Black Lives Matter, while the truth is far more nuanced. |
I agree. The issue is far from black and white.

I expect people to judge and treat me primarily by factors I can influence such as my actions and personality, but also to some extent the class in to which I have been born. If society wishes to grant me certain advantages based on my nationality, skin colour and race, then that is for society to decide and heaven knows I shall not decline. If particular segments of society are not accorded those privileges then that is quite unfortunate and possibly even unfair, however I am not in a position to improve their situation. |
here we go with the king/pres biff tannen-trump 2017 Alternative Facts Tour :airquote:
*part 1: terrorist attack in Sweden.* |
One month in, and already the source of more entertainment than any other US President. And I do not know who taught him the art of oratory but I remain sure that there is more to it than repeating the key points of your speech.
|
I know it's funny, but it's kind of scary how this administration has been inventing terrorist attacks. This is now the second time they've conjured one out of imagination.
The way I see it, there are three possibilities. 1. They're saying this trying to get people on their side and hoping the distrust of the media has reached the point that people won't believe them when they try to inform us these attacks never happened. This is the worst case scenario because eventually, we're going to start a war with eastasia if you get the reference. 2. Someone somewhere in the government is having a bit of fun, making the current administration look stupid and making up attacks. 3. These are potential attacks that were stopped and the Tannen administration is confusing them with actual attacks that did happen. |
This morning I read this interesting article in a non-radicalist, leftist and mainstream newspaper (just to mean it's not trash). Food for some thought.
