Volunteer in Bolivia
So I'm planning this trip to Boliva (this autumn) to work as volunteer at an organisation that works with rescuing animals from the black market. (From their hompeage:"Our aim is to rehabilitate the animals we rescue, when rehabilitation is not possible we work hard to ensure each individual animal has the utmost freedom possible." http://www.intiwarayassi.org/article...fuge/home.html It's seems like a really good and organised place)
I've never did anything like this and I haven't even traveled outside Europe before, but this is something i dreamt about for a really long time so now I'm just trying to ge the money for it. Anywho, I was wondering if any of you have any experinece, tips, ideas, info , thoughts or so about Bolivia and/or volunteering. All help would be appreciated :) |
Kaltxě, ma Anima!
First of all, thank you on behalf of the animals you'll be saving. Here in Florida, I volunteer as a driver for rescued dogs, and would jump at the chance to volunteer with you, if not for the fact that I have two dogs of my own who depend on me. I've never traveled to Bolivia before; the closest I got was Ecuador and the Galápagos. One of our members, though, Tzmukan Wokan, lives in Santiago, Chile, and might be able to offer some assistance or information. Good luck with your mission. Report in when you can and let us know when you've returned safely. Eywa ngahu, Na'vi taw'ite |
Thank you Na'vi taw'ite for the kind words. Ecuador and the Galápagos must have been quite an experience!
It's wonderful that you voluteer with the dogs. Here in Sweden I help homelsess cats at a non-profit organisation and sometimes it's hard to deal with the cruelty and abuse some animals are exposed to. :'( I've always had a big love and rescpect for animals and nature (probably one of the reasons why Avatar made me feel like it did) and I feel that this trip is the right thing for me in so many ways! |
I've heard about the black market in South Africa, they sell endangered species to tourists who will eventually get rid of them on anew habitat disbalancing the local ecosystem, or make bags from crocodile skin,...; good luck with your trip to Bolivia, it's a mean bush there. ;)
Take care of yourself there though, it wouldn't be the first time someone dissapears because of the mafia or the gangs. |
