I would be interested to hear actual descriptions of these dreams not made after the fact, since it's well known that people do try and fit dreams to things retroactively.
It's perfectly possible that since people dream all sorts of random things, to be reminded of one later, but what they are not reminded of is every other dream they had with similar elements :) |
Hehe, I had two "half dreams" - Like when you are not fully asleep yet and are not really immersed - sort of a "lucid dream light", because it is just images.
In one I wanted to be on the coast of Pandora and kind of expected some beach and a hometree next to it. What I then saw was a grassland with small - a few meters - hills. Tall grasses in blueish green and yellow. Lots of wind rolling over them making them all wavy. I wanted to know where the sea was and knew it was behind me, but I could not see it. I thought maybe it is behind these dunes somewhere, but I got the feeling that no, there is a cliff there and the sea is below. I was thinking that no, this is not what I wanted, I wanted to be at a beach. Nothing changed. I looked for a tall hometree, but cound not find one. Instead I saw that there is only grass, some rather small (for Pandora) trees. In the distance I could see there was a forest and behind that mountains. I thought of nighttime and saw that some single ones of these grasses could glow while most did not - Together with the wind this looks awsome :) - I still was looking to be at a beach, a shallow coastline with no cliffs. Where I ended up then was a dense mess of wood. Completely entangled trees, grown together to something like a huge sponge. I was in the middle of it and could see down at least a few tens of meters - maybe 30 and there wsa water below. I asked myself where I was and knew it is a mangrove forest. I thought of tides and came to the idea that maybe the tides are so huge, that it either has to be a cliff or such a gigantic mangrove forest at the coastline, otherwise the tides would roll into the land for miles. So I figured that the water will come up by a few tens of meters and then go down in that mangrove forest again. I knew that this was pretty much a dangerous place. One should not go down there - because of the water and because of the creatures living down there in the dark. If there are people living here, they live more near the top. The trees gave great ways to walk everywhere though - the tangled mess was at the same time sort of a network of paths to walk to every place in that area, as most were broad enough to walk on and there were large vines and roots that were sort of braided together to form bridges and overpasses. I thought I saw some green and blue luminescence below - maybe changing in color depending on if the plant was underwater or not, so that the water lavel could be estimated by the color, but I am not sure. Pretty neat :P I am not sure if it really was Pandora - didnt see any NA'Vi or big planets in the sky or Ikran or any creature actually, but it was fascinating. Thinking of it - the tides on a moon orbiting a gas giant would probably actually be rather huge, right? |
I always think that my dreams might be crazier while I'm dreaming them, but the next morning, my brain rationalizes it and fits it into a nice little story. My dreams are always very story like :P

Moco Loco is probably right about the brain rationalizing things; it would be difficult for it to cope otherwise. Aurora, that was an amazing "waking dream"! Pandora or not... maybe a similar world. Who knows? But it was beautiful. I am sure there are lots of mangrove forests on Pandora, & the tides will be huge, too - you would know, Dr. Grace :) Here goes The Canoe Dream (actually it was a meditation, or "waking dream":) I arrive to a coast in a canoe - my race lives on some islands, & I am curious to meet "the land Na'vi" that some of my clan had seen. We are purple & we keep the tsaheylu fibres in two braids; i guess it's a fashion. The canoe hits the sand, I pull it out & step on the beach. There is a jungle very similar to this picture on Keeping the feeling alive thread, only the rocks to the right of the pic aren't there, & the colours are so much brighter; everything is "alive", one can feel it. http://www.ideal-sydney-getaways.com...et-beaches.jpg It's almost twilight & some bioluminiscence is already seen. There is an incredibly beautiful tree , it looks a bit like Tree of Souls with long willowy branches but it also has big pink flowers like those of a magnolia with tsaheyly fibers in them. I make the bond with the tree & perceive the jungle life; I can also feel that there are some Na'vi in the forest watching me. I unbond & step back; I dont want to barge in "like a stupid ignorant baby making noise". Instead, I keep my spear in hand & stand straight, it's neither a threatening nor a submissive gesture but a simple "I am here; I am waiting for you". They come out; they are blue! Fascinating. We "scan" each other with eyes; they perceive I am no danger. The leader makes the I See You gesture. Curiously, my clan has the same greeting gesture, so I reply gladly. We do See each other altho I am sure our language is different. They motion "Follow"; I do. We walk a short way into the forest to a clearing. There is a rock in the middle & people sitting in semicircle around it. It seems a meeting place. The elder, i think their Man of Knowledge smiles, & the others move & make room for me. I sit down. Everybody joins hands, & it's a "mind melding": our queues are on the grass, we are connected thru the roots, the land & our hands so we know what we feel or think - altho we can choose what thoughts we want to share; it's not such a complete & direct bond as lovers make with queues. The elder speaks in my mind; I understand him cos it's a thought, not words really: "We welcome you altho you're different and because you're different; you might have the knowledge that could be interesting for us. From our side we're ready to share ours". I reply in thought: "I am honoured".. They can feel thru the connection that I am sincere. The chant starts, it seems everything is brighter, brighter, brigher, the rock in the middle is almost incadescent; the earth around it in the centre of our semicircle becomes transparent & we can see stars thru it... and then it's a wormhole tunnel & I shall say no more at the moment. Too intense. |
 :awesome: Now that is the most amazing dream I have ever heard, apart from Aurora's description of the roots of those trees.
That meeting place sounds like a similar campsite that I went to as a school kid. :) There was a rock thing in the middle and lots of benches around it for a communal meeting place. We were surrounded by forest and there was a river running to the edge of the site. I wonder if the knowledge that the Land Na'vi tribe were sending you and your clan actually went through the kaleidoscope of colour and into your subconsciousness when you woke from the dream? |

About subconsciousness - ma tsmuke it's very possible, I had series of dreams when I would meet a character(s) of knowledge & the things they said seemed so clear, matter of fact, went without saying that it seemed impossible to forget them. I would even wake up & repeat that statement several times to make sure... but in the morning I would only remember something vague, say, about music :S But I was sure that the "info" was stored somewhere in the subconsciousness & would surface later when the time came. That dream was a bit different: more "global". Maybe I'll PM it to you first, tell me what you think. Linking out! |
Cool!! :D Sounds really possible I think things like that happen to all of us.
|
Yeah it is amazing how easy it is to forget dreams. And too often I forget to put a pen and paper next to my pillow to write things down in the morning.

Of course, there is always an option to meditate on a dream: recall the last moment you can remember, & start from there: "What has happened next?" but one needs time for that, & then it's difficult to tell between the "true vision" & imagination... But it's fun anyways! :D |
I always have the intention to write dreams down, but often I don't manage to... maybe if I put some actual paper there, it would help. Thanks for the idea :)

Yes, just putting up some keywords helps to stir the memory once one got up - though I loose details during the first minutes after getting up. Some come back later, but usually most are lost when I do not take down the story on paper or in a textfile soon after I wake up.
So last night I had something about oceans, diving and possibly people living underwater - but I have no idea if I was dreaming something about Pandora or something like that (just having read that the sequel will take a closer look at the oceans) or not, because I did not write anything down :( |

I wonder if it's predicting some things about the new avatar movie? Speaking of oceans. About an hour or so ago I had a dream about Pandora and the oceans. :) I was walking along a walkway by the seaside but the drop was about 50 feet or so and there were all these rock ledges and mounds amongst a huge blue sea. When I looked closer I could see all these Na'vi painting some of the edges of these rock faces with white paint on the end of sticks. I could hear them all talking and then singing. Somehow then I was whisked away to a lone cliff face a little while away from the others and the Ikran Leader of the Eastern Sea was there. I could see her at work with some herbs or tools of some kind and then she turned her head to look at some small black stone that was hanging on the left side of this alcove she was in. The stone actually was like a transmitter in a way, it had all the Na'vi's songs coming from it. Then I remember getting a close up of the Sea Leader's face with all her red and white paint and then she suddenly took the form of Toruk and flew off. :awesome: |
That sounds pretty cool. Interesting with the rock painting and definitely weird with that talking rock :D
|
Well it wasn't really talking but it was projecting all the Na'vi's songs out of it. (Almost like a walkie talkie) ;)
I think there's always a weird element with dreams but then again, I suppose that's what makes them memorable. |
