I could order it, but I want the super-release with the extra footage on it.

Human No More 04-10-2010 02:13 PM

Argh... Is this available in the UK?! DOWANTDOWANTDOWANT

TheIknimaya 04-10-2010 05:21 PM

I think you have to go to that store and he will sign it there. Too bad you can't pre-order it and have him sign then ship it to you. :D

I am 99.9% certain people may order it and have it autographed even if you do not arrive at the store. Here's quote from the seller's website:
Quote:

For those of you who live out of state or cannot attend, you can still get an autographed copy. Pre-order now and fill out the "Autograph to" field upon check out to get your copy personalized !!

Sacred Tsahaylu 04-10-2010 07:26 PM

I do want, very much. However, I would demand that he write something in Na'vi :P

Loverofnature 04-10-2010 10:09 PM

Helicoradian 04-11-2010 02:34 AM

I was going to buy it @ midnight at best buy or walmart, but this is almost to tempting...

TheIknimaya 04-14-2010 09:48 PM

Well guys, I just ordered Avatar on Blu Ray from this site. It says it will be autographed by Professor Paul Frommer. I filled out a little form to have it "autographed to", I put my name there.

I ordered it with priority shipping which was $22, yikes! :P I told my mom I would pay for the shipping though! :D

So it does indeed seem you can order it and have it autographed by Professor Paul Frommer, even if you don't live in the US. You can order it wherever you may live, it had a drop down list of countries and it looked like every single country was listed.

So if you want this, you have until Sunday April 18th to order it! Don't miss out!

EDIT: I just thought of something, for those of you not in Canada or the US, the disc might not work in UK/ European Blu Ray players, because it is in fact a North American disc. :(

Ateyo 04-14-2010 11:43 PM

AAhh! damn.. I have Pre-ordered yet, but the shop where I Pre-ordered will give me a poster :) so is not too bad

Human No More 04-15-2010 04:35 AM

Yeah, it will probably be region coded. Although a lot of modern DVD players are multi region now. Alternatively, there's always a certain program, the name of which includes the word DVD and the opposite of encrypter ;)

Grif 04-15-2010 09:23 PM

Canceled my order from amazon. I'm trading release date delivery for an autograph, but I think the few days wait will be worth it.

I would Pre-Order but then I have to wait for shipping. I'll have it next Wednesday at midnight!

Exciting indeed. I'm still trying to figure out whether I should cancel my order for the combo Blu-ray/DVD pack from Amazon and get the autographed Blu-ray with my name on it for $6 more.

On one side, I get an autograph from the creator of the Na'vi language, and on the other, I get both the Blu-ray and DVD for less money.

What to do... what to do...

Get an autograph from the creator of the Na'vi language. 100% worth it IMO. As soon as I found out about this I reconsidered my earlier pre-order and went with the auto-graphed copy. It's going to have my name on it too.

Can't wait. :D

Although, my mom's friend was over here earlier, and suggested that I still purchase my pre-ordered copy and never use the autographed copy, for the sake of keeping it a collectors item. I like that idea so I will get both I think. One copy auto-graphed by Paul Frommer to keep safe and another copy to open & use.

Vauktu 04-18-2010 02:52 AM

Well, after a bit of thinking, I've decided to cancel my order for the Blu-ray/DVD combo pack on Amazon and instead bought the autographed Blu-ray version for $22.00 extra. An opportunity like this doesn't come often, and I can always buy the DVD later if need be.

Awesome! Definitely worth it I'd say.

When you say $22 extra, are you talking about the $22 priority shipping?

Human No More 04-18-2010 03:22 AM

I'm trying to decide if I should get this as well... and if I should get it autographed to my IRL name or my name here.

I'd go with my name IRL. Nothing like having the brilliant man that created the Na'vi language auto-graph a copy with YOUR real name on it. :)

Shipping cost ($10 normal shipping), tax ($4), and the higher price of the Blu-ray ($8).

You should definitely get it if you're willing to spend a little extra money. Get it autographed with your real name too.

Ah I see. I saw the $22 and thought of the priority shipping, which I got. ($22 for shipping, yikes! :P) It came to about $56 CDN. :D It's worth it though to get it auto-graphed by the man that created the Na'vi language.

tallbluewanderer 04-18-2010 06:26 AM

HNM: use your real name! You won't be able to upload a picture of it to ToS, but it's far more personal and more permanent.

I'm feeling awkward reading through this thread, seeing as I don't have a Blu-Ray player and I'll be lucky if I can get Avatar in *any* media! :) I'm currently hoping to get Avatar on iTunes when it comes out -- here's hoping that it's a decent-resolution file...

I was going to suggest that if you aren't able to get it on Blu Ray, try to purchase Avatar in HD online somewhere.

Avatar is up for pre-order on the iTunes store right now, but the HD version isn't up for pre-order yet. The HD version should be up soon and if not it will be available come release day hopefully. The odds are good that if you have any decent computer monitor, it is most likely a high definition screen, so you can still watch Avatar in HD that way! :)

I'm going to buy Avatar from the iTunes store in HD as well. That way I can watch it in HD on my computer when I can't watch it on Blu Ray.

Cool! I've never bought a movie on the iTunes store -- do you know what resolution the HD version is likely to be? I've a 1080p screen hooked up to my laptop (it isn't a 50" HDTV, but it's not bad :)), so I'm hoping that Apple will make an exception for Avatar and sell the full-blown HD version online.

Now, to figure out how to watch it without my parents walking in and wondering why I'm getting so worked up about a film... :S

I think HD movies in the iTunes store are 720p. But that's still amazing quality. My computer and current HDTV are only 720p and HD looks awesome on them.

Definitely. The extra pixels come in handy when I'm using my computer and need more stuff open, but given that I've been happily watching DVDs for the last decade I'll be more than happy with a 720p video. :D

By the way -- what's Tapatalk?

^^^ THIS!

I'd been a little (well, okay...VERY) envious of our EU family members who were going to receive all kinds of bonus goodies with their Avatar Steelbook Combi-Pack, but when I read about THIS, ohhhhh...I JUMPED at it.

In the space to designate to whom Dr. Frommer should autograph the disk, I put in my real first name and my ToS user name. The only drawback: grammatically, I don't think Na'vi Taw'ite is the PROPER way to say "daughter of the Na'vi Sky", but I'm hoping he'll correct it. ;)

Tapatalk is an app for the iPhone/iPod touch that allows you to browse many (thousands) of forums and log into your account on that forum.

AF and ToS are both supported by Tapatalk so you can log in and post on each site. It's all formated nicely so you don't have to do any zooming etc. It's a great app to have and costs $2.99, (might be different in the US iTunes app store)

Neat! I'll have to practice my iPhone touch-typing before I invest in this particular application, though. :D

Yea, I can type pretty fast on my iPhone.

Oh and also: 3 more days until Avatar comes out! :D:D

Had I seen this before I MIGHT have done it. I don't know I am not into signed stuff like this, I would be too worried about messing it up :P

Well, what I'm doing is, before I found out about this, I had already pre-ordered it and paid it off at a local store.

I then ordered it with an auto-graph. My mom's friend then suggested that I still get my pre-ordered copy and keep the auto-graphed one as a collectors item and never open it.

That's what I'm doing.

I'm officially too obsessed. I have my bluray order from play.com coming, plus the autographed one :D

That's basically what I'm doing. Except I pre-ordered mine at a store. What I'm going to do is never open the auto-graphed copy and only use the copy that I'm getting at the store.

Keeping the auto-graphed one as a collectors item. :D
