Zoe Saldana's Demands for Next Avatar Film

Quote:

We all know there’s going to be an Avatar 2 even if James Cameron hasn’t committed to it yet. Zoe Saldana expects to return to the role she innovated as Na’Vi warrior Neytiri. She just needs a few things from Cameron before she can do it again.

“He already knows how I like to approach it,” Saldana said. “I need at least 6 to 7 months of training and stuff to get into Neytiri again and whatever’s going to happen is going to happen.”

Saldana spent four years learning and practicing the motion capture performance style as well as the basic skills for a nature native. She’ll keep that experience, but it still requires prep time.

“It does take training,” she said. “It’s not something that I can just turn on and off. Everything is a learned skill. The same way it took me like 2 to 3 months to channel Aisha, you know Neytiri is going to take her time as well. I mean, there are people we are kind of incarnating. It takes a little bit of preparation.”

Right now, Saldana has nothing but time to prepare. Who knows when Cameron will start writing Avatar 2, let alone shooting it. “The good thing that we all know about Jim is - it’s not so good sometimes because we sometimes have to wait like 10 years for it – but by the time he does come around, he gives you something that sort of changes your life or at least touches it in such a way. So I do know that Avatar 2 is going to be just as great as the first one because Jim’s the S-H-*-T.”

Hahaha I love Zoe!!! I hope it doesnt take 10 years though but I do agree that JC is the sh*t! :D

on another note, I think doing a movie like this would be the coolest thing ever!

From this attitude of hers, it's easy to see why Neytiri was such an amazing character. It was obvious from the clips of her in the motion capture that she was 100% into the character. Whatever it takes her to get to that level again I am all for, and I'm sure James Cameron is as well.

10 years?

I really, REALLY hope not :'(

I actually wouldn't mind Avatar 2 coming out in 10 years. It give you a chance to give live and see where it takes you and have it re-introducted to a new you.

Hell, i know by that time i plan on having kids... i'd love for their first big screen movie to be avatar! Then we can bring our children up in the richness that we've found.

I'm not one to complain :)

Thanks for keeping us updated JakeFanGirl!

Haha Zoe sounds awesome, and I doubt it'll take Jim 10 years to make Avatar 2, but she's right when she says it's something that changes your life (I know Avatar changed mine, and a lot of yours!) and Jim is... the S-H-*-T!!!

I wish Zoe would put some pressure on Jim to work on Avatar 2 before any other projects. The fans don't want to wait 10 years! I hope it's not going to be more than 3 or 4 years. I am still enjoying Avatar 1 for now and will be for a couple years more.

James Cameron said in an interview that if he were to start Avatar 2, it would be about 3 to 3.5 years away.

So basically from whenever they decide to start filming, it will be about 3 to 3 and a half years from the date they start.

Not too bad, but still thats 3 years......:'(

I trust his judgment here -- I'd much rather wait six years and have Avatar II turn out to be the best sequel of all time than have Avatar II come out in the near future and turn out to be derivative or uninspired (or even less than how good it could be). A fresh look can't hurt, I suppose, since he's been working on Avatar for years already...

That said, I'm perhaps not the best to comment on the sequel. I'm still anxiously waiting for a chance to see Avatar I again! :)

Good for her for getting so involved with her character. It seems that a lot of actors these days get by on reputation- I'm glad Zoe is ridiculously committed to giving the best performance she can.

And with everything else that went into Avatar that brought Neytiri to life? Obviously it's a good combination.

Then in that case he'd better get started! :)

LMAO! Not all actors are that vain obviously...

nickneagle 05-07-2010 12:16 PM

I would say it is gonna be at least 5 years before it hits theaters. Mainly because of time to write, create, shoot, etc. Cameron isnt one to do anything just to do it so it will take him some time. I am ok with that because his stuff is always right on.

I know I am certainly glad that Zoe was cast though, she was perfect for it and made it hers. Sounds like she also is very excited that a sequel will happen which is great!
