I really like the way he shows connection and devotion to toruk here by running his hands along it's...ridges, looking it in the eye and patting it, I'm not exactly sure if it's meant to convey a bond they have through tsaheylu, or if it's just a guy reassuring and expressing affection for his mount (like a giant flying horse, lol). Jake also seems to have become much more mellow and focused after he bonded with toruk and through the end of the movie, and I wonder if it's because of the direness of the situation or because toruk has somehow changed him? I don't know.


One thing I didn't like about Avatar is how alot of characters motives didn't seem that clear, or at least Jake's didn't. I don't know if this was something Sam did/didn't do, but in general it was hard to really get inside their heads and see what they were thinking, and for me, this really limited my ability to empathize with them. When I watch the movie, I have to step back from the movie and try to put myself in the situation to really feel/appreciate what they're feeling. For example, I can see Neytiri's panic when Jake won't wake up at the Tree of Voices, but I felt very little along with her.

Another example (and this is something that's bothered me for a while), is Neytiri's feelings for Jake in general. She says she likes Jake, and Zoe says that "something about this avatar absolutely catches her attention" but I never really saw her like Jake beyond a casual affection (her feelings for him during the training appear to go from outright dislike, to irritation and frustration, to what looks like a teacher/student fondness in the last ~2-3 days before the destruction of Hometree, then when she's painting him, she displays little or no feelings of romantic/lustful connection, then suddenly "I want to mate with you for life," then she leaves him to die [she has every right to be upset at him, but leaving her mate for life to die...says alot about her feelings for him], then in the end of the battle, doesn't listen to what him when he begs her not to attack, the only thing that stops her is that little bit of "Eywa ex machina").

Of course, I don't think that really sucking you in emotionally with the characters was a big focus for JC, it seemed like with a movie that long, you have to pick and choose which element to focus on, and he seemed to have chosen "epicness", experience, message, and setting over the minute dramatic workings in the characters' minds. The movie would have been like, four times as long if he had, lol. I don't know, I'm not a filmmaker (yet?). Anyway, sorry, that was really long. Pretty picture.

Dream and I were talking last night about how we love how he gets so INTO fighting, always yelling and so aggressive, lol. Something about it, I dunno, I like intense guys (being into stuff like football and rugby, etc), and they say women like seeing men "in action," so to speak. Also, love this pic, not only because of what I stated above, but also from the positioning of his arms; he looks like he could be rockin' out on a guitar or something XD. Yep ^^ I definitely loved seeing him get all hyped up about it. Like when they were getting ready to attack and he lifts his gun in the air and whoops XD. I thought it was cute and like...I don't know why, but yeah, I just love seeing him all aggressive. I love his vulnerable side too, don't get me wrong!
