I love it. We all want to live like the Na'vi but spend thousands on our home entertainment systems. I'll post pics of mine later tonight. :D

Is it too much to ask for both?

I would post pictures, but my current setup is not worthy. :D

I'm trying to get my parents to buy me a new TV hehe. The smallest I will go is 50".

If my viewing distance to where the TV would be is 6-7 feet, what would be a good screen size? 50" or 60".

My mom thinks I'm insane for wanting a 60 and insists it is too big, but on basically every site I've been to, it says about 7-8 feet is perfect for a 60". I think a 50" would fit nicely, but I can fit a 60" if my mom agrees which she probably won't. :P :D

Whether you should be 6 or 7 feet away should be decided by you. It's like people at the movie theater. Some prefer to sit up front while others like to sit far in the back. I'd go to Best Buy and see some of their TVs and find out for yourself.

I myself always sat about 11 or 12 feet away from my 63 inch TV. The only problems I had when sitting too close to the TV was the noticeable pixelation on the TV, though this was most likely because I was watching movies and playing games in 480p.

Also, I would take a projector into consideration if you have enough space, a light-controlled room, and a sound system.

With a projector (Optoma HD20 to be more precise), you could project a 100 inch screen if you have it sitting 10 feet away from the wall. From 6-7 feet, you could project an image about 70 or 80 inches.

Even if you do not have a screen, getting a projector is still something worth considering. Here's a couple pictures I took while not using a projection screen. I am standing in the bottom picture for size comparison. Keep in mind these are taken with a very cheap camera. These pictures do not do justice for the projector.

The image was being projected onto a white, dry-painted wall:
