Avatar Home Setups
Hello there
It's Cyan, telling you the great potential this thread has. Basically all you need to do is post pictures of your home theatre watching avatar, you can take them how you like, all you need to do is pause it on your favourite shot, remember you can also post pictures of the boxart however, that's less interesting :) |
Well this is my meager setup.
2 h/k 12W studio pc sattelites 1 Panasonic 265W 6ohm sub with a DIY 250W amp What's amazing is how much sound 12W with properly sensitive speakers can make. Measured at 95dB. Off-brand-piece-of-crap 26" 720p lcd. Compaq FS7600 17" CRT (eventually replacing with Zalman M220-W for Bluray3D) The Compaq CRT has the best black levels and most accurate color reproduction I've ever seen. The LCD's color palate doesn't even include black :D All pics taken with VLC upscaling to native res with bicubic. http://i40.tinypic.com/34y7nh4.jpg http://i43.tinypic.com/21ald2f.jpg http://i44.tinypic.com/1t8ml2.jpg Somebody pass the popcorn  |
Hmmm...i dont have a picture but I have my bed lofted in my dorm room with my futon and TV stand underneath it. The TV is a 27'' vizio flatscreen...720p so not full HD. HOPEFULLY, by the summer I will have a 42'' Panasonic full HD tv for my new apartment...but we shall see.

Maybe once I get my new TV, which is going to be a 50" 1080p Plasma. If things go according to plan I should have it within a month or two. :D |
Don't have the bluray yet so not showing avatar, but here's where I'll be watching:
http://img689.imageshack.us/img689/6514/s5023872a.jpg It's actually a surprisingly big monitor, and good for films :) - I got it second hand cheaply too. Speakers are Creative 5.1 ones, they sound great although I'm not a massive audiophile snob :P Also, yes, that is an old Avatar ticket on my desk :D My baby :) - Just off to the side on the floor http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/9...023847edit.jpg (Sorry for image quality, the lights are really bluer than that :) ) |
Here's my recently purchased 63" Plasma Samsung TV with a bottle of water and the Avatar OST for size comparisons. :P Still waiting on the speakers to arrive in the mail (4 week wait ... :(). I'll post pictures when they arrive.
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/5619/dscn0875f.jpg http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/8421/dscn0874x.jpg And yes, that is the TV stand. There's nothing else in the house that would support the 150 lb TV, so I had to use whatever was available. There are two thick wood boards underneath the TV so the glass doesn't break under the weight. |

Except I'm going to buy it in HD from the iTunes store. |

My setup could rank high up there but not until I get my new TV! :D It's going to be a 50" Plasma, and I am sitting so close to it. :D (5-7 feet depending on the situation) |

40" is a great TV size. |
My setup sucks atm, but hopefully soon I can really build something sweet!
|
I might be able to get a HDTV soon, but not before the release.

I never thought I would return the TV, nor did I think I would prefer something else over it, but after seeing some convincing images of a projector, I figured I might as give the projector a shot and see how I liked it. Not only would returning the TV save me lots of money, I would also have the option of seeing an image much bigger than 63 inches. So after a bit of thinking, I purchased a new projector. Replacing my TV is the Optoma HD20 DLP projector. Avatar Blu-ray/DVD and OST are for size comparison: http://img200.imageshack.us/img200/8049/dscn1074j.jpg And of course, what is a projector without a screen to project an image onto - I went as big as room allowed and got a 150 inch projection screen: http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/5420/dscn1075.jpg Here are some pictures I took with a cheap camera while watching Avatar. Images may appear dark and fuzzy, but that is due to the camera. The image looks much more impressive in person. Image Projection Test (001), Image Projection Test (002) Image Projection Test (003), Image Projection Test (004) Image Projection Test (005), Image Projection Test (006) Image Projection Test (007), Image Projection Test (008) Image Projection Test (009), Image Projection Test (010) Image Projection Test (011), Image Projection Test (012) Image Projection Test (013), Image Projection Test (014) Image Projection Test (015), Image Projection Test (016) Image Projection Test (017), Image Projection Test (018) Image Projection Test (019), Image Projection Test (020) Image Projection Test (021), Image Projection Test (022) Image Projection Test (023), Image Projection Test (024) Image Projection Test (025), Image Projection Test (026) If you have the room for an 80 inch or bigger screen, I highly recommend getting this projector. The two items can cost about the same as most 40 inch or above LCD/Plasma TVs. |

What about the colors, are they good in comparison to Plasma TVs? (I think that plasma technology has in general best color balance) |

I highly recommend getting a projector instead of a TV if you have a room for a large screen and a light-controlled area. I returned my TV with absolutely no regrets. :) |
Here's mine:
http://img406.imageshack.us/img406/8...c02645copy.jpg 47" Panasonic (HD obviously). http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/9616/dsc02646k.jpg This image shows a blu-ray player, amplifier, SKY + HD. http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7355/dsc02647n.jpg There's five of these around the room. http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4...c02649copy.jpg There's two of these, one of each side of the TV. Second one is hidden. http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/945/dsc02648copy.jpg |
Here is mine setup, well it's obviously more PC with 24 full hd screen than film center...
http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/3...10366small.jpg http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/9...10368small.jpg And this is the best set :D:D http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/5...052010364x.jpg |
I've got a 72" HDTV (DLP), I'll take some pictures when I get home.

The surround sound's not set up and there's crap everywhere...please excuse that. :) |
^^ woah thats a big TV! How big is it?
and here's what I've got for now... just a small plasma, my Blue-Ray player, and my DJ amp and speakers... First Home Viewing http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/i...r/P6100200.jpg Second Home Viewing http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/i...0515000144.jpg We have a bigger TV in the den, but I don't want to watch it there till everyone leaves for like 3 or 4 hours for the night so there won't be any distractions |
nevermind.

I love it. We all want to live like the Na'vi but spend thousands on our home entertainment systems. I'll post pics of mine later tonight. :D

That's some sexy room! That's the kinda place I wants when Im older! :D |
I would post pictures, but my current setup is not worthy. :D
I'm trying to get my parents to buy me a new TV hehe. The smallest I will go is 50". If my viewing distance to where the TV would be is 6-7 feet, what would be a good screen size? 50" or 60". My mom thinks I'm insane for wanting a 60 and insists it is too big, but on basically every site I've been to, it says about 7-8 feet is perfect for a 60". I think a 50" would fit nicely, but I can fit a 60" if my mom agrees which she probably won't. :P :D |

I myself always sat about 11 or 12 feet away from my 63 inch TV. The only problems I had when sitting too close to the TV was the noticeable pixelation on the TV, though this was most likely because I was watching movies and playing games in 480p. Also, I would take a projector into consideration if you have enough space, a light-controlled room, and a sound system. With a projector (Optoma HD20 to be more precise), you could project a 100 inch screen if you have it sitting 10 feet away from the wall. From 6-7 feet, you could project an image about 70 or 80 inches. Even if you do not have a screen, getting a projector is still something worth considering. Here's a couple pictures I took while not using a projection screen. I am standing in the bottom picture for size comparison. Keep in mind these are taken with a very cheap camera. These pictures do not do justice for the projector. http://img195.imageshack.us/img195/5620/dscn1154n.jpg http://img179.imageshack.us/img179/1451/dscn1159l.jpg The image was being projected onto a white, dry-painted wall: http://img97.imageshack.us/img97/647/dscn1163j.jpg |
