|

|
Ohh I had never noticed this thread before ..
And "hell yeah* But years .... Ummmm no that's way too long .... Year (or so maybe) .. Come on lets revive this dream! |
I'm up for it! As long as it is in the States...
|
we need a poll to see where the majority of us live, Europe or USA
|
Welcome, UltraArt :)
If people want to get this thread going, I'm all for it again - I think the easiest way would be to have two - a UK/europe one and a US one. |
well, i would like to join in a meeting for sure, would be so awesome to meet with people from here :)
|
How about wherever the sequel is premiered for the very first time, we all meet up there and be among the first in the world to see it? Would that place be...London, perhaps? I guess it's still up in the air for a few more years, but it would be nice to have an excuse to go to London again. :)
Of course, you're all welcome to hold a giant meet-up here in California where I live... |
I would be interested in going. :) California is close to Hawaii... So I think I would be able to go if I wanted to. Although, I would probably need an interpreter LOL and some money to actually buy some food and tickets :xD: Lmao
|
I could do California...I'm only 12 hours away.

I think the bigger issue here would be to find a place in the U.S. where as many people as possible (so a vote by majority) would be able to make it to, since the U.S. is so huge, and because we have people that are sort of clustered in Alaska/PNW, Southeast, and the Northeast. Let me know what you think...... |

I'll be with HNM.
Look for two Na'vi. :D |

Hmm... This is all jolly exciting. *I've just had a quick look through the thread so apologies if I am repeating stuff.
Just some questions and sorry if they sound a little unhelpful but they are to help really. Ok, what is the purpose of the meet up? Is it to what Avatar 2 when it is released or earlier than that to bring us together? Either would be cool. The reason I ask is this might change where it could be held. If it is for Avatar 2 then the premier will dictate where it is. But if it is sooner then we would have more freedom. Maybe if it is sooner then a convention type event could be held? Perhaps at a conference centre? Or maybe somewhere that there is a local cinema that could get a copy of Avatar to show over a weekend? I know of an IMAX cinema in Birmingham (UK) that might be obliging as they showed our forum film (Our Only Home) before Avatar when I arranged a meet up to see Avatar SE. *Six of us made it to the meet up then. But if we are talking mass meet up, ie convention, I think we need to have some activities. Here's some thoughts: Costume comp Costume role play Swap meet Avatar related sales stands Cinema for fan films Fan fic readings Fan art gallery Try and get some members of the cast and crew to come along to answer question and do thautograph thing Na'vi lessons Film prop exhibition Behind the scenes technology demo like performance capture for people to try Hell, we could see if they could scan our faces to turn us into Na'vi and incorporate us into the film! Show Avatar, SE, CE Competition to win Avatar stuff Environmental related activities, like knowledge sheets to take home to help us change our ways, tree planting sessions Make the challenge to get to the convention without using a car, ie public transport instead, etc There is probably more stuff that I can't thing of at the moment. The trick is to make it as accessible to as many people as possible. So it would need to be held somewhere with good transport links as not everyone has a car or can drive. I definitely think we should invite all Avatar clans to get involved. *Also with something like this and possibly of this size I think we would be looming at getting professional help to organise it and they know how to do these things. *Of course it doesn't have to be this big. It could just be a meet up or something. *Whatever we do we really need a good idea of how many would be interested, how far they would be willing to travel, where they are located, how long the event should be, what time of year would be best and how much they would be willing to pay to attend the event (not including travel or accommodation) Sorry I kinda went on a bit there and had a bit of a mJor brain dump, but I hope it is useful food for thought. *We just have to do it. The Star Wars and Star Trek fans do it so I'm sure we can! ;) Thoughts anyone? |
Well, the original idea for this wasn't specifically for Avatar 2 - as for what we have going on, I guess it really depends on the scale of it in terms of location, venue and numbers - if we make it really big and get all the clans involved, we could possibly get even more than that, or it could just be a small(ish) gathering - it really depends on interest.
|
If we get actualy cast and crew to come (Sam or Zoe would be awesome haha) I would save up now, alot of what Alan said was a very good idea (I would laugh to hard roll playing xD) If we made this into more than a bunch of people metting up (with cast and crew) alot of people might show up...the possiblilities

I would asplode. I am planning to be able to get to London for this in a few years as well, if all goes as planned. |

I will to help polish off the above questions and stuff if we really want to do this. Maybe we need a group setting up if it helps? Duno. Just throwing some ideas out there. |
Learnnavi as well, I'm active there as well :)
That's a great idea - perhaps we could come up with other questions first, I thought of one - would they be interested in a private screening of Avatar? - they would need to contribute a part of the cost so obviously this would only work if we had enough people |
Yeah, sure thing. I think the trick will be to make it a bit like a multiple chose thing with a low number of questions so it is quick and easy to do for everyone.
Is it possible to work out how many collective members there are on all the forums? Then it might be a starting point to see how big the fan base is out their. You could then perhaps assume between 5 and 10% would be able to make it and that would give a rough order of magnitude on how many there might be. Duno just a thought. Anyway if you want to progress this a little further to sort out some sort of questionnaire then feel free to PM or email me. Lets see how far we can take it... |
I say we take it all the way
|
Count me in! We should get the ball rolling on this one soon so we can get everything set up.
|
I'm happy to do some of the planning for this :D

Well, I'll see if I can pull together a bit of a questionnaire thingy and I'll post it...or a link to it...here so people can see what they think. Once we're happy with it then perhaps we could post the link onto as many Avatar forums as possible in as many places (as some people just stay in certain threads) and wait for the responses.
I guess the only other way would be to see if the admins of all the forums could be contacted to see if there is a way of PMing everyone with it? Is this possible HNM? Of course this is just to gauge the level of interest rather than plan anything out yet. What do people think? |
Yeah, we could contact them - whether or not we'll get an 'offical' reply, I'm not sure, but I'm, sure we can certainly at least go to each forum and post it there, most have some kind of meetups forum.

Kaltxi folks. :hi: Ok, well...I've been doing a little bit of research. Always a good start I guess.:)
I put 'Avatar Convention' into Goolge and came up with a bit of stuff. The first two links got to Naviblue and AF where Avatar conventions have been discussed before about a year ago. Here's the links: Naviblue thread. Avatar-Forums thread. I don't know if anything came of these. There was talk of having a meet up at Comic-con in 2010. But again I don't recall anything or have seen anything about it happening. So next I checked out the big boys of conventions! What I found out is they they are generally in the region of 4 days, to stretch over a weekend. There are day tickets between US$20 - US$40 and four day tickets between $110 and upto $280! The Star Trek convention is rather large. You can check it out here> Star Trek Convention Then there is the Star Wars thingggg> Star War Celebration V Next up is Comi-con that I believe gets held in San Diego every year. This is where I think the 20 minute Avatar preview was shown in 2009! It is being held again this year in late July > Comi-con 2011 Ok these are established events, but they kinda give you an idea of what goes on at them. If there was to be an Avatar one I really think it would need to be professionally organised. However, what we could do is try and find out if there is enough interest. Which brings me nicely onto our little questionnaire. I have pulled one together and it can be down loaded by clicking here> Avatar Convention/Meet-Up Questionnaire. Let me know what you think. If a 'convention' is a bit too much to ask for then there is the 'meet-up' option, where we simple just meet up. But I think if we were to do this we would perhaps get bored and if people were travelling long distances, it would not be worth their will, unless there was something to do. Soooo...perhaps one possibility would be to meet up at an event. Two spring to mind: Comi-con and the other is the Avatar exhibition on 4th June in Seattle. My own thoughts? Well a convention would be great, but I don't have the skills or resources to pull that one off! I think that would need to be done professionally. However, a meet-up? Well that is more achieveable. And of course the best place to do that this year would be at the launch of the Avatar Exhibition. I still think it would be worth trying to organise something for that if possible even if it was just somewhere for us all to meet. If we were going to do this I think we should knock on the door of the Seattle museum to see if they would be will to organise something for us. Especially if we were able to show them some evidence of interest. I mean, that's all I did at the IMAX cinema and we got our forum film shown there with Avatar SE. Wow. Sorry I've gone on a bit. But please do ponder it and let me know your thoughts. It really would be great for everyone from all the forums to meet up at last and what better place than the opening of an Avatar exhibition! Oel ngati kameie..I hope on 4th June in Seattle!:hi: Alan |
Interesting idea, but I think we need a meetup for UK/Europe people as well... not all of us have the time/money to make it to the Avatar exhibit :(

If not then I guess we need to know the level of interest for an event in Europe. Did anyone have a chance to download the questionnaire to see what they thought of it before we send it out to see what response we get? Here's the link again: Convention/Meet Up Questionnaire Look forward to your comments... *goes into thinking mode about an event for somewhere in Europe...*:xD: |
Am sort of arranging a mini UK meet up in Feb. Anyone interested?
|
The most practical venue - not the most inspiring one by a long way, but the one likely to get the most people - would be as an enclave within a World Science Fiction Convention.
The coolest one would be a private premiere of Avatar 2 in a near-jungle location such as a resort in Kauai. Likely number of attendees: somewhere under one. |

As for UK/Europe, I like London - I can actually get there :P , and it's arguably the easiest place to get to from most of the area. Quote:

Kaltxi my friends,
Well I've been just doing some final tweaks to the Avatar Convention Survey. The only two tweaks I have added is a box for gender and a box for age group to help get the demagraphics that can help tailor such an event. So all together there are 10 questions. There, just an nice round number! I have uploaded the updated survey here: http://www.mediafire.com/?6nb1a2onpq5o3s0 I have also update a dropbox webpage for people to upload their surveys to. This is www.thetaylorssite.f2s.com So I think we are there now. All we need now are some volunteers to post the message below onto the various Avatar forums. Do we have any volunteers out there? I can post a new thread here and on AF. Could some folks post onto the following Avatar fans forums (that I can think of?) LearnNa'vi (Could you do this one HNM, please?) Na'viBlue Avatar Prime One thing to thing about is that some people only stick to certain forum subjects so to get maximum coverage can I suggest that besides posting on the 'Meet-Up' threads that we also post on the General Forums and also the General Avatar Forums. There could be others too, like fan art and fan fic, but the first three should hopefully get the majority coverage. Just had a wacky thought. If we do make this happen we could call it the Toruk Makto Convention As it brings the clans together in a time of sorrow (no more Avatar until 2014) :'( Ok you can beat me up later.:P:D Ok then, here is the following dit to copy out to the forums, if everyone is happy with it: -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Subject Title: Questionnaire for Possible Avatar Fan Meet Up or Convention - Fill in Now! -------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Kaltxi ma aysmukan sė aysmuke, A number of us Avatar fans have been considering the possibility of bringing the clans together to a meet-up, convention or pre-organised convention. However, before anyone puts effort into organising such an event it would be a good idea to gauge the level of interest. To help get this level of understanding a simple ten question survey has been pulled together. The survey can be downloaded by clicking on this link: http://www.mediafire.com/?6nb1a2onpq5o3s0 It will take less than five minutes to answer. Once you have completed it, simply click on the link below which will take you to a webpage with a Mediafire 'dropbox', where you can upload your questionnaire: www.thetaylorssite.f2s.com We need your questionnaires in no later than 4th February 2011. After which we will collate the data an publish the results shortly after. There is no guarantee that an Avatar meet-up or convention will happen, but the survey will help to decide if we can take our forum clans to a whole new level. Irayo and Eywa ngahu..." |
SurveyMonkey might be a better tool for this; easier to use and free for this size of application.
|
Kaltxi, Alan!
I can post it on the Naviblue site and AvatarPrime (unless someone else has already volunteered and beat me to it). |
hmm, looked into using a SurveyMonkey survey, but it is limited to 10 questions on a free account - By adding an explanation field to question 3, plus question 7 being two questions then it goes over 10 - I was thinking it could be compressed by removing the gender question and the state/county/region one (perhaps put in the question that they can specify the county/state as well). If we agree to that then I could publish the survey as it would certainly be much easier to get the data from :)
preview, should work when not logged in: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?P...h%2frDSs0lo%3d |
