That, and I don't agree with the word exotic here.

Extreme is more like it; it sounds like a superdense heating element from a toaster or an oven.

And, "pale in comparison?" yeah, okay, call me when you actually find something cooler than a giant, flying lizard that can throw helicopters with its feet.

Funny how it can apparently be more exotic then Pandora, and there is no presence of life there...

Density aside, seems extremely uninteresting to me (compared to Pandora, anyway, as anything to do with space is interesting ).
On the other hand, interesting with the density, I wonder what its composition is.

Also, PANDORA IS NOT A PLANET!

No, but if it wasn't circling a planet, it'd be a proper planet, not a dwarf one. That's probably what they were getting at?

And also, this is all so cool - I love learning about exo-planets. Although, exotic? Nah. Triton's exotic. Venus is exotic.

Wow, almost as dense as lead. What kind of core does that planet have? O_O

Also, I didn't really mind the Pandora reference, although I can't really see what they're comparing. Don't be offended so easily.

I actually find this discovery quite interesting. It appears as though we've found a super-Mercury in the sense that this planet likely has a relatively large core and orbits close to its star.

Hehe - its funny how astronomers are obsessed with the most odd kinds of astrophysical phenomena. Massive and supermassive planets, fast orbits, close proximity to the sun and so on. I would find it much more interesting and amazing to find rather "normal" planet, Earth sized in the habitable zone for example. Now THAT would be a really interesting event. To find heavy planets that orbit close to the sun seems rather "pale in comparison", I'd say. Especially if they "only" can use doppler techniques to find it. "As dense as lead" sounds really strange - I wonder if their data is correct, because few naturally occuring materials are really that dense. But quite probably all lighter elements have been carried away by the heat and solar wind. So maybe it is some kind of lead/uranium/iron planet....

There are various other elements that are dense enough, such as some of the heavier transition metals, as well as elements such as uranium.
Study of rarer conditions can allow for understanding into the processes that form them and why such occurrences are atypical - also, it's the fact that they catalogue many extrasolar planets and announcing an unusual (or potentially Earthlike) one is simply met with more interest than others.

Hehe , I was just thinking of a newspaper headline that was totally wrong and crazy. It said "the core of the Earth is made of gold" - now with that discovery, maybe that can actually be true - Imagine that - the discovery of a planet made mostly of gold. That would be a gold rush - No, I hope you know i am just kidding.
