Default First June, then July...next 2012! See you in Seattle?

Kaltxi folks,

Ok I know this is not the meet-up area on ToS. However, for those of you who might not frequent that little backwater I thought this might be of interest.

Some of you maybe aware that a number of us from the various Avatar fan forums, including this one, met up in Seattle at the beginning of June for the opening of the Avtar Exhibition at the Science Fiction Museum. It was an amazing experience to meet up at last having become friends through a fiber optic cable! I managed to capture the meet up on video and made a number of short videos to share. They are linked at the bottom of this post.

At the moment our friends from the LearnNa'vi clan are in Seattle having their meet up. Yesterday (Saturday 9th July) they took part in a panel discussion with the creator of the Na'vi Language, Paul Frommer. By the sounds of it they are having an outstanding time. You can find out more about what they are getting up to on their forum here:

Seattle Meetup

There is also a transcript from the panel discussion on this thread:

09 July :: The Panel and Bilingual Q&A

Believe me, it is an amazing experience to finally meet up and enjoy each other's company and talk Avatar until the wee hours of the morning. When it was coming to the end of the 4th June meet up there was one thing we all agreed on, and that was that we NEEDED to do it again. So we are looking to plan something for in a year's time in 2012.

So I hope this has wet your appetite, as once the LearnNa'vi clan come back and get settled down, we are looking to have a go at planning next year's mass meet up. It will be in Seattle again as the Avatar exhibition will still be on then and there will be pleanty of opportunities for activities to be planned. You can follow developments in the Meet Up section as and when we get stuck into it here:

Meetups - Tree of Souls - An Avatar Community Forum

In the meantime there is discussion ongoing in this thread:

Thanks for sharing the info Alan!

Anyway here is what we know about the next meetup coming in 2012...

(nothing is for sure, and some things WILL change)
Date: sometime in July 2012
How Long: friday-monday???
What's going on: Avatar Exhibit at the SFM, Group Viewings of the Movie, Clan meals, day hike, explore Seattle...
Extras: Backpacking Trip (possibly camping trip instead) would be Tuesday-Wednesday??

Anyway, that is just an idea of what could happen, things are too far away to start planning too much. However we have started a list going of people that are interested in going. This will help us to determine the amount of people and planning and such...

I hope to see you all there!
-Aketuan

You can count on me being there 100% on behalf of Avatar Nation.

Having just come home from Seattle, I can say that I had a blast.

Stay tuned soon for all the audio and video footage we have captured, including a short interview with Dr Frommer and more.

I'll will be posting links as soon as they have been edited and uploaded.

Heyyy...since ALL of us who were there in June bought museum memberships that will expire next June 4th, is there ANY chance at all that we can have the next meet up on or before June 4th? It would be very nice if we were all able to use our memberships again

Some people mentioned that idea however too many factors rule out early June.
-more chance of bad weather
-people still in school
-possible museum events

I really do wish that I could use my membership next year, but it isn't worth having people not being able to go because of classes.

Yeah it would be great if we could use our Museum memberships again, but like Aketuan says it might limit those who can join us. I think we will need to consider the date carefully as I'm guessing once you get into July transport and accommodation prices shoot up too. I feel a survey coming on! Hehehe...

I plan on attending with a 70% likelihood. My life is at the biggest freaking fork-in-the-road right now, but goodness knows I'd love to meet everyone else there and I've got time to make sure it happens.

Kaltxi, Aketuan!

Please add me to the list -- 100% chance I'll be there for the 2012 meet-up. Would not want to miss it for anything!

DJMakto --
Looking forward to seeing/hearing the Avatar Nation footage from the July 9th meet-up. I read the transcript from Paul Frommer's panel, and it was great (Irayo to Alan for posting the link from the LearnNa'vi forum).

This.

It looks like ye had a blast! Really motivates me to find a way to go to the next one! Unless I somehow gathered enough money to finance a trip like that for me, I don't think I'll make the 2012 one

By the way, great videos, Alan!
