AvatarMeet 2012 - The Journal.

Share your AvatarMeet 2012 stories here as they happen.

Quite simply this is a place for those of us going to AvatarMeet 2012 to report back to the clan stories from our adventure and share the experience with those who are unable to make it.

Just post your stories, links to pictures and video so everyone can be a part of it.

I'll have a go at kicking things off as I am already on my way to AvatarMeet! And so far I have got as far at Leicester! But tomorrow morning I catch the first train of the day and head down to Heathrow to start my adventure. First stop will be Washington DC for a mini meet up with some Avatar friends. If anyone is in the local area, we will be there from the 11th to the 16th July, before heading for the camping trip in the Olympic Penisula and then on to Seattle. PM me if any one is able to meet in DC.

Oel ngati kameie...soon,

Alan

whohho good idea Alan! :awesome: I remember how I was chasing the Meetup 2011 thread for videos & pics - like a hungry viperwolf! :shoop: :xD: so I reckon, yeah, this thread would be an easy & sure way to know where to go for them.

So you're already traveling, eh? are you in cryo? (meaning, will you be 'out of coverage area for a while) or can you still see your messages, the forum etc. while on the way?)

Yours truly is on this side of the world for just one more day (which is tomorrow) aaaaaand... off! Gone into the linker, & shall come out in Seattle .

See you soon ma tsmukan! si aytsmukan si ayutsmuke! ahhhh the rush!  :awesome:

Haha... Yeah I came out of cryo. Felt like a fit of tequila and an ass kicking :D

Ended up watching three films on the way over. Two had Sam Worthington in them; Man on a Ledge and Wrath of the Titans. The other one was Jonny English.

Anyway, yeah I've now arrived in a hot Washington...well compared to the UK it is, but it's nice...and get this I ended up giving travel advice to someone catching the Orange line in to Washington and I had only just arrived! Go figure... Hope I gave them the correct info.

Anyway have a great flight over ma tswal tsmuke. I'll wave as you fly over. I tried waving to James as we flew over Canada. Not sure he saw me though. Hehehe

:xD: I was going to warn you "Watch them tequilas!" :P

Hey, you've given me an idea with this Journal... I can't define it well yet but I was thinking about a journal (or what's a better name)... for the forum. Like, sometimes people make a collection of the photos of important events in a person's life for this person's anniversary. Or something.

We all came here with our cups full of Avatar , & one of the most important things we have here is sharing. And, what else could be named? it's been good two years since the forums appeared & there were many 'landmark' events & happenings. The Meetup 2011 obviously, OOH video... on the other side, Community support - helping each other to pull thru times of sorrows... other things could be mentioned... I got here late, maybe half a year after the forums started, but I was cautious & would prefer quality PM-ing, I only started posting on public boards another half a year later  Surely other forum members will have more to say.

So I've been thinking about 'the most important events of the forum' and what they mean to us. Some were good, some not so (like, there were many wars here & everyone got scathed) - but no experience is strictly negative as long as we can learn from it, make conclusions, & act differently in the future. For example, AvatarMeet will be a great opportunity to make peace, for those who are willing & able to put their cards on the table (hehe quoting Bob Marley).

So, erm, what do you think about 'The Forums Landmarks' (or something)? maybe it's an for the fan video (and maybe you've already thought of it!), maybe it could be a thread on its own, maybe something else... Just thinking.

Hehe I'll be looking for you waving there!

Sounds like a good idea Apace for a thread to capture the major parts of forum history or something. Although you could say the forum is that. Duno? Definitely a thought, though.

In the meantime I've been a videoing with my phone and captured my journey across. So if you want a laugh, take a look XD:

Toodle pip,

Kaltxi, Alan!

So glad you made it to Washington DC alright! And wow -- you're quick, posting a video of your travels already!
So you and Sam have fun in DC, seeing all the sights...and I'll see you there on Saturday. :)

Watching a massive prolonged and rare lightning storm over the Olympic Peninsula and Straits of Juan de Fuca right now. There are signs and portents for the camping trip :-)

Alan 07-13-2012 02:32 PM

@ Fiyerwall - Ahhhh...what a shame we're going to just miss each other. Oh well we'll get to catch up soon enough :)

@ CyanRachel - Yeah definitely having a jolly time. Found out where the museum of the Native American.

@ Apache - safe journey ma tswal tsmuke. Just remember you don't dream in Cryo :)

@ Sempu - wow! Hope it's good for the camping trip. Looks like it's going to get rainy in Washington over the next few days... Hopefully with some sunny spells whilst we are out though.

Well I got worn out yesterday walking down the Mall. It was great though. Amazing how many people ask you if you can take a photo of them and then ask if you would like one doing too! That's great. I've managed to do another little video. Hope Raiden gets to watch it as there is a challenge in there for him ;). Here it is:

Morning 2 in Seattle: Just woke up after a 4 hours sleep to a thunderstorm. Txantsan!

- Mikko ... where's my gawd damn tea?

Sempu 07-14-2012 02:31 AM

I'm not going on the camping trip but I'm on a road trip that just took me through the Olympic peninsula, and holy cow, it's like the area got enveloped in a time machine that sucked it back to February. Locals said it was the worst storm since 1979. Worst I've seen in summer from the other side of the strait. The rain was hitting our car like a machine gun and the lightning was biblical. Got seriously dark midday. I don't know when the camping trip starts but I sincerely hope it's not yet. Otherwise, this must be some kind of karmic adjustment for the folks on it to show them what living outdoors is really like j/k :-)

We came out into sunshine after turning south down 101. And I heard in Port Angeles that the storm hadn't hit Forks (to the west). Really localized... and pretty much centered on the camp site.

Fiyerwall 07-14-2012 04:37 AM

Love the videos, Alan! Keep it up! :D

Alan 07-14-2012 12:49 PM

@Sempu - Eeeck! Sounds like some of the weather we have been having in the UK this summer. We had one day where the sky turned black and places were flooded. Not good. Hope things get better for next week. The little wearer app thing on mi phone seems to show things getting a little better for Seattle, but not sure if that stretches to the camp site.

It's looking like we might get some rain here in Washington today. Yesterday, though, was rather pleasant. We made it to the Zoo. Check it out:

Hopefully should be meeting up with 'This one goes to eleven' and his wife, from AF and also CyanRachel today.

Alan
