Default What Songs Should The Soundtrack Of 'Avatar 2' and 'Avatar 3' Include...

...and who should conduct the score?

You're probably thinking,"We don't even know what basic plots and moods are, yet!" Well that's why I'm asking,"If...

...the story is slower but the mood is darker?

And vise versa?

Or the story is faster and the plot is lighter, and vise versa?

Please give me your opinions on all of these.

"What songs" as in songs from a genre other than film score? Mmm... nah. I wouldn't add any. Even "I See You" at the end was sort of a turn off for me.

As far as who should score, I think the overall mood of Avatar has already been set thoroughly by Horner, and Cameron is most definitely going to hire him again for the sequels (I mean, look at all the years that passed between Titanic and Avatar, and yet he still hired him ). Not to mention the royalties Horner already has pouring in from people using his score in various places; he's not going to pass up the opportunity to score Avatar 2. He can't: it'd be business suicide. And he wouldn't: it'd be like a deprivement.

BUT, if all these factors were completely ignored by every Fox producer, the director, and Horner (...right), the composer I'd pick'd be James Newton Howard, primarily because of his experience in both soft melodies (I Am Legend; Lady in the Water; The Village), hard action (I Am Legend; Salt), and tapping into a bit of tribal (King Kong). He's really an all-around composer that adapts to whatever he's given (he scored King Kong in less than 2 months, and that contained themes far more memorable than Horner's Avatar, which took 2 years).

So yeah, I'd pick him. But of course, we all know Horner's going to score Avatar 2. As far as moods and plotlines go, however, it doesn't really make much of a difference what the movie is about. It just matters what type of genre the film is, and if the composer can fit his style of writing into it. Horner has proved himself very worthy of scoring Avatar (IMO) because of his action work with projects like Troy, his soft-spoken work in movies such as Braveheart and Titanic, and most-importantly, his astounding tribal-style work on Apocalypto.

No "songs" please

And I'm not entirely convinced Woodsprite, the article where he describes his time working on Avatar... he sounds very disillusioned with the whole process and seemed a little upset at it all.

That said if he doesn't write the music to the sequels I'll probably cry. When it comes to a movie with as many dimensions as Avatar, no one can do it as well as Horner (and yes Woodsprite, I did mean to say "no one").

I think it should have it's own original score. Which it probably will.

I would like to see an original score BUT with some themes from the first one "remixed" and reintroduced at critical moments...especially the "becoming one with..." theme.

James Horner, of course.

Although from a personal point of view, I think some folk metal like Ensiferum or Korpiklaani would go really well with the Na'vi , I'd actually prefer for it to just be a film soundtrack, like Avatar.

Hmm... well, it's been over two years since he stopped scoring avatar, so I assume the "year and a half" thing is probably over for him. After all, he did work on "The Karate Kid" afterward... I think that's all he did since Avatar, though.

I know some people really liked "I See You" at the end, but I didn't. Reminded me, for obvious reasons, of Titanic, which is a movie I utterly revile.

IMO, Iknimaya should have just gone on, and on, until the way it ended on the soundtrack.

That...would have been heavenly.

I understand how you guys don't want songs. But I came across this one a while back, and it just seems to fit the whole situation of 'Avatar', with how the humans killed Earth and need to fix it but want to, how Jake learned that one needs very little in reality, the Na'vi and humans fighting, and how the Na'vi want the humans to See. If the humans fight the Na'vi again, this would fit, definately. I think so anyway.

To be honest, I would like the plot to be deeper, a bit faster, and darker(?) I think that combination would set up a good metal soundtrack.

This would never, ever, ever, ever realistically get into the film score, but Unquote & Mr. Sizef's 'Seven Tones of Romantic' I think would go perfectly. It seems to have the perfect blend of tribal and electronic elements (Much like an Avatar in amongst the Na'vi) and has that dream-like, soft and powerfully drifting quality that I think would be 100% right...

Check it out -> YouTube - Mr. Sizef - Seven Tones Of Romantic

At about 1:20 of that I thought, "...No." The score will be scored by a composer. There will be no outside source of music.

Oh yeah, I realise that... hence why I said "This would never, ever, ever, ever realistically get into the film score"
