Default How would underwater scenes even work?

It seems like a key element of the Avatar sequels are going to be the underwater portion of Pandora. Possibly even the deep sea portion of that world.

Well, here's the thing. We as humans can't stay under the water for more than a few minutes without some kind of scuba gear and I saw nothing that indicates that the Na'vi have

A. An especially large lung capacity.
B. Gills
C. A scuba gear equivalent.

How would this even work within the confines of the story?

Personally, I'm wondering if he's going to justify the water being crystal clear.

I'd guess potentially equipment left by humans.

Not sure what else to think other than human technology, tbh

Perhaps an extension of the Eywa soul transfer process in which the Na'vi could somehow transfer consciousness into deep-sea creatures for the purpose of underwater activity. Sort of like a natural avatar program. I don't see how the audience would tolerate Jake or Neytiri being transferred into different bodies however. I really don't get the appeal of a very ocean-centric storyline. I have no problem with say 15-20mins of screentime down there, but any longer than that and I will be sad, very sad, only.

1. There are examples of indigenous peoples on Earth who have developed the ability to dive for many minutes at a time, so the concept isn't as far-fetched as it seems.

2. JC never said Avatar 2 would take place in the deep ocean, only that he was going into Earth's deep oceans to get inspiration for Pandoran ocean life. Given how Pandora can be seen as "Earth+", what exists only in our deep oceans could be quite common on Pandora at shallower depths.

Well, maybe the underwater setting will be only a...setting. I mean, in Avatar Cameron showed us a lot of the forest by simply shooting flying sequences of the Floating Mountains, the Tree of Souls and so on..maybe he could just show us "images" by finding the pretext of an underwater human base or a similar situation. I don't think a soul transfer process into a sea creature would be plausible...remember that Cameron himself said that the underwater scenes would be only an extension to show more of Pandora environment, and there will always be the forest and the mountains, but...who knows...Cameron is brilliant and unpredictable

I have always been impressed that even comparably sized sea mammals such as sea lions, can stay underneath for 20 minutes at least and withstand pressures that would squish us!
I think the proposition of tsahel si (get your mind out of the gutter! I'm not talking SEX) with a dolphin like creature would be awesome. Cameron might be going somewhere with sentient beings other than Na'vi, a possibilty that we have overlooked on Earth!

Final Fantasy 10 had biltzball players under water for ages, depends if the water is rich is Oxygen or is capable or relieving pressure of a body.

Neither of those work with real physics at all. Final Fantasy has magic; Avatar doesn't _

Flying mountains are real physics?

Sure, the justification is "SCIENCE!" not "MAGIC!" but it still has the same effect on the narrative: "reality suspended due to lack of cooperation." As Cyvaris was joking above, if the plot requires Pandora's oceans to do something bizarre, then it will happen, even if actual hydrodynamics has to be thrown out the window.

So HOW does "MAGLEV" which we can make happen now, here on Earth, suspend the laws of Science? Just because WE aren't needed to "Make it happen"? THAT sounds awfully arrogant, but arrogance fits our Species well.
The Oceans of Pandora don't have to "do anything Bizarre" in order to have a premise for the new movie, perhaps there are several species of whales or dolphins that can converse with each other in such detail as we do with each other, without trying to become like us.

Maglevs are 100-1000 times smaller than the mountains. That's how they get away with it.
