IOW, it's infinitely more original than... a hypothetical film that, AFAIK, there are no examples of?

Screw them. Skypeople just can't See, & no one can teach how to See.
(some forum members are much more polite than me )

About the sequels: imho JC hardly made any sequel worse than the original movie. Terminator / Terminator 2, all Aliens... I can't recall any other series but - each one of the above is a good movie on its own, even if there were no 'base' movie. So I'll cross my 4 fingers & tie my kxetse in 3 knots & trust JC on Avatar 2 & 3, too.

The wait is long? yes! but better than 6 years in cryo. 'all good things comes to those who know how to wait".

Good to see JC taking it so seriously... 2015 would be nice but really, I want it to take as long as it needs to be perfect.
My sentiments exactly, HNM.

My "prediction" is that principal photography on the sequels *could* start sometime in 2014.

If I've heard of it, it's gone mainstream and hipsters now hate it

Stuff like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Koyaanisqatsi that's weird simply to be weird.

Hey, Koyaanisqatsi is great if you're high.

In this article, Sigourney Weaver kind of compares her character in Avatar to Ripley, and seems to think she won't just be used in flashbacks, but be in A2 as a clone or brought back to life in some other way

There's some jazz as well about JC becoming vegan, but the article is mostly about Sigourney Weaver. Not sure this deserves its own thread, so putting it here.

If she's Ripley in "Avatar" then does that mean we'll see little Na'vi bursting out of people?

Well, all the kit they'd need to ressurect her is plausibly availiable.

Only if they have a way to transfer her memory back from Pandora

but then, that would probably be doable at the ToS with enough Na'vi.

Huh, I thought there was a general feeling of uneasiness about this, especially from Clarke It did kind of annoy me how she said that anything is possible in a scifi movie, though I could've been taking it too literally.

It is cool to think that your mind can be floating around in the Tree of Souls. I would love to know how that feels.

I wouldn't.

Because it would mean I was dead.

A big intelligent plant keeping my consciousness around like some kind of neurophysiological paperweight or an action figure does not sound pleasing.

Perhaps, it's an interesting question, but as an alternative to complete death, maybe it's a different context to if otherwise alive.

Well, it's true, but when everything is possible, nothing is interesting, so to write a good story, you've got to invent rules and stick to them.

Which is I guess the reason it bothered me a little. What kind of maintenance does an inactive avatar need, and would Grace's have gotten it after everything that happened? I'm fine with whatever happens as long as I understand how.

Interesting. I would really like to know with some plausibility then what happens that makes this flesh-and-bone resurrection possible. She would need a body - preferrably the Avatar body she had before, but I would really think that the people buried it once it was clear that her soul is with Eywa. And something would have to be different in terms of the spiritual or neural world which suddenly allows even to pull someone back from the realms of Eywa, which certainly has to be even more powerful than transferring a sould to another body. Where would that power come from?

BTW - was there a discussion somewhere yet as to why the NA'Vi do have such a ritual at all? After all Grace probably is the first time there would be the need for such a ritual to be performed.
