Slashfilm | Giovanni Ribisi Will Return For All Four Avatar Sequels
I'm kind of glad he'll be in them. I like the deleted scene where he finally seems to grow something resembling a conscience and rails against Colonel Coffecup's war preparations; it'll be interesting to see if anything like that is part of his character in the sequels. |

I like the direction his character was going in A1. That one shot of his face looking at the destruction on the monitors after the Omaticaya assault says it all. He has potential. Just gotta get him steered in the right direction.
Odd observation: My visceral reaction to our antagonists the very first time I saw Avatar was the overwhelming desire to be able to reach across the fourth wall and shoot Quaritch dead, but Selfridge... I would most definitely settle for a solid punch to the face, and nothing more, despite this hypothetical implying the opportunity to shoot Selfie too. This was even before that one key shot of his reaction to the Hometree carnage let alone knowing about the "You're a long way from Earth" scene in which that spark grows into something overt, so... nothing ought to have redeemed him, he had conducted himself as a moneygrubbing warmongering corporate sack of worms and nothing more. I find that quite interesting. What is it in the writing that seems to telegraph hidden merit?

JC would have to produce an Avatar Ultimate CE with all Na'vi and RDA/skypeople deleted scenes finished/rendered and added as canon, for any change with selfie to have any meaningful impact in the redemption department.
i would love to see that Avatar UCE! hell yeahhh! ![]()

The more I hear, the more concerned I get.
So here's the thing. At the end of Avatar, the entire human population was thrown off the planet minus a few select individuals who were permitted to stay. That is a colossal screw up. That's a multi billion dollar, heck for all we know maybe a multi trillion dollar investment destroyed. No corporation in the world would just just go "Eh, thing happen. Let's give him another chance". I can not fathom any company would ever allow Parker Selfridge to return to Pandora under any circumstances. Think about it. Ignoring what we all think about the Na'vi (well, all of us except SecOps) You're the CEO or COO of the Resources Development Administration. You just found out that your most ambitious operation (as far as we know) was destroyed six years ago. Not only that, but under the leadership of Parker Selfridge, the indigenous population is permanently hostile and you're hearing reports that the very planet itself is as well. This makes setting up new operations next to impossible. But, you've decided you need the unobtanium. Earth needs the unobtanium. That's understandable. So you're going back and you're going to send someone who can lead up the new operation and get it up and running. That's understandable. You're going to send the same guy who oversaw the previous cessation of operations? What company would do this? Ever? Dr. Grace Augustine was dead. But she's coming back. Quaritch was dead. I mean really really dead. But he's coming back. Selfridge blew it. I mean really really blew it. If he wasn't immediately fired with cause by the RDA and blacklisted from working basically anywhere ever again, he'd be looking at becoming whatever the future equivalent of a madogiwa zoku is. But he's coming back too. Was Avatar a dream sequence brought on by Eywa? Are they basically going to remake the first movie, except now in the form of a trilogy where Jake has foreknowledge of events? Otherwise, I have no idea how this could possibly work. |

Well, I am going to let JC do his work and just see what he has planned, did Selfridge leave Pandora's star system? Maybe there are entities on Earth that have got a glimpse of what happened and Selfridge has the choice of being the fall guy( like jail time for ordering an attack on people, to make the company seem not quite as at fault) or he can stay in the Alpha Centuri system( could there be a space station or other spot near Pandora where there are some resources that can be 'held" or where some people can stay to help out with operations with out having to be on Pandora.?) For example maybe there were new people coming in on the next ISV and when they got to Pandora, they find out that they can't drop off thier people and there is not enough space to offload everyone on the shuttle that left, so the company told selfridge "your staying here ( in the star system) for awhile. and he eventually ends back on Pandora? IDK I still think there can be ways where things can happen.

i honestly believe there are other rda activities in the Polyphemus/Alpha Centauri A system. the rda/secops was on Pandora for 30 years before the arrival of Jake Sully, so of course the rda explored the system while occupying Pandora. i think the ISV was ordered to drop certain people off on another location in the system, before heading back to Earth. even though we see the ISV depart in the 'A New Hope' scene, we have no contextual reference for time elapsed between defeated rda/secops survivors returning to the ship and it departing for Earth, nor is that scene even canon, since it was never completed or added to a special edition. maybe that ISV doesn't return to earth and waits 5.7 years for the next ISV.
